Even though I love Justin Bieber's two most recent albums, definitely save Kanye. If you see through all the hate and bias the media lays upon him, you would realize he is one of the most important artists of our generation.

Which do you define "degenerate" as? But his influence over pop-culture and hip-hop is extremely easy to see. If you recall the beginning of his career, in 2003 the only rappers who were releasing music and getting record deals were gangster. Obviously he didn't fit this local, so he struggled to get a record deal. His debut album reintroduced a focus on lyricism into the genre, as well as the use of the soul sample. His second and third albums brought the orchestra to hip-hop, and realized the genre has being able to support avant garde art. Graduation put electronic music back in the eye of the populous, and changed the sound of hip-hop instrumentals. His next album, 808's, is probably his most influential, breaking the "tough guy" mold hip-hop had been in since its roots, finding a way to use autotune artistically, and further fused the electronic and hip-hop genres. The only reason we have names like Drake, The Weeknd, Future, Lupe Fiasco, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, etc. is because Kanye made the path for them. Further, the music promo for MBDTF changed how people released music, Yeezus popularized the industrial sound (you think Death Grips would be getting that much attention without Yeezus?), and TLOP changed the definition of what an album is. Shit, he remixed a song from an unknown artist and now Panda has been topping the charts for a while now. That's the Kanye effect. His shoes? His tours? You're a pragmatic person my friend, don't neglect reality because you think the guy is an asshole.
-
I don't follow pop culture at all. The largest interaction I have is with tabloids at the store. I haven't noticed.
-
So how could you judge the influence of any modern artist if you don't know what's going on in pop-culture? The Beatles were not so important because anti-culture sects kept their art alive, but because they changed pop-culture so much. Of course you'll dislike the guy if the only thing you see about him is tabloid nonsense.
-
I can't. But hating on kanye is basically a meme now.

Panda is such a shitty song lol

Editado por The Cellar Door: 6/2/2016 1:50:44 PMI don't disagree with that, although it is catchy, and Kanye cut it down to a point where it didn't feel like the same 4 lines being played repeatedly; the point I'm making is extreme popularity it gained for the simple reason of Kanye using it.
-
"degenerate"? Wow... Harsh...
-
I laughed.

You do realize that for the majority of these "artists" their songs are not their own. They are written by a handful of other people. http://nypost.com/2015/10/04/your-favorite-song-on-the-radio-was-probably-written-by-these-two/ Kanye and Biebs are no exception to this. They are just faces for the music and very rarely produce their own works.

Editado por The Cellar Door: 6/2/2016 1:24:10 PMYes, you may see the big writing list credits for Kanye, but do you know who gets put on the writing list? Everyone. For, "All Day," Kanye said that he had listened to a Kendrick Lamar song on the way to the studio, and so Kendrick Lamar got writing credits. Everyone who has written the actual music, which includes the music they play and the music Ye samples, gets writing credits. Let's also consider the fact that Kanye has produced almost every single song that he has released, last I remember it was like 8 song from an 8 album discography. He's been noted as one of the most talented producers in hip-hop. Self produced his first 2 albums, and enlisted the help of sound engineers to achieve a more ideal sound. He's a perfectionist when it comes to production, they made 75 final mixes for "Stronger," because he didn't like certain sounds. His words are his own for the most part as well, it's been said many a times that Kanye's writing process is, if not completely done by him, a collaboration where he lays down a freestyle or a prewritten verse and they bounce ideas around in the studio. The bouncer of these ideas will also get writing credit, this has also been said by multiple artists who were asked about it. The studio process has literally always been a collaborative process for all of your favorite artists, all of those rock bands are no exception to this, and neither is Kanye. He is, however, the brains behind the lyrics and the lyrical direction, the vocal talent, the producer of the instrumental, and the visionary behind the music. If he was a pop-hit construction, he wouldn't have gained popularity in the first place, he wouldn't have released 808's, his career would have probably ended after the VMA thing, he wouldnt have released Yeezus, and he definitely would have released TLOP like a traditional album. Shit man just look at the Yeezus tour. No other pop-star or rapper puts that much into a tour, Kanye is just a ubiquitous artist, not a pop-hit construction.
-
I don't even care about his shitty music but he seems to be one son of a bitch
-
Kanye has done nothing for music. What he has done is be a prick about illegally downloaded music while also doing it and ask Zuckerberg for money. He could just as well not exist and music would probably have advanced farther than it currently has.

Editado por The Cellar Door: 6/2/2016 6:09:57 AMHe's literally one of the most influential people in music today, lol. I'm not even going to argue with you, if you don't know that, you obviously don't know a thing about Kanye West and only subscribe to what you hear from TMZ. Sorry that he hurt your feelings when he said that Taylor Swift shouldn't have won that award. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_awards_and_nominations_received_by_Kanye_West
-
I mean, did you listen to Beyonce? Swift shouldn't have even been a nominee coming up against Beyonce. I have also listened to Kanye and nothing he does is groundbreaking. He's entirely overrated.
-
Editado por The Cellar Door: 6/2/2016 6:21:22 AMThe revitalization of the soul sample? Conscious rap in the mainstream? His tours? 808's & Heartbreak? Yeezus? His music videos? I could keep going, but 808's has literally been one of the most influential albums in music in the past decade. Changed the entire face of hip-hop and pop-culture with an album he made in 3 weeks. If you don't think Ye has been a huge influence in music, you are simply ignorant on the topic.
-
Hah, hip-hop and pop do not constitute as the entirety of music. He was "influential" in maybe two genres. You now have jazz, blues, country, rock, punk, ska, metal, and a multitude of other genres that have no reason to be influenced by him in the slightest.
-
Oh, you are myopic, aren't you? It's useless to argue with you about the topic, because you have a heavy bias against him, for reasons which don't even concern his artistry. His critical acclaim, accolades, and influence on artists of all genres will realistically survive even if you don't believe in them.
-
Most artists outside of his genre don't care for his "influences" as they can see he's just a self obsessed dillweed. Jack "so obsessed with the number three he once called himself Three Quid" White has definitely done more to influence the music industry than Kanye "named his child North" West.
-
LMFAO YOU DID NOT JUST BRING UP THE WHITE STRIPES HAHAHAAHAH Yea, your opinion on music is irrelevant.
-
Actually, I'm bringing up Jack White. If you want to go by bands, this brings up The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, Dead Weather, Two-Star Barnacle, Goober & The Peas, and The Go. He actually played and recorded with the first three bands simultaneously at one point. Not to mention he's been working on solo albums to experiment more with other genres and they've gone over exceptionally well. He's also worked with a multitude of other artists which include Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, and Beck. His entire career makes Kanye West looks like an inept child still struggling to learn the intricacies of putting a round block in the round hole.
-
You should probably take a second to learn about Kanye West. But for the record, his 11 Grammys fall very short of Kanye's 21.
-
That's cute that you think Grammys actually mean that much. The Beatles have won only 16 awards yet are one of the most influential bands to have ever existed. Maybe less awards is better?
