Let me tell you an example: In my country we have a good public transportation system, it's kind of like how a subway system works but using buses, it's a network of stations and substations and you pay a fixed and very economic toll for a ride, it doesn't matter how far you go. A few years ago, when the now governor of the state I live in was in campaign, he promised to designate some buses exclusive for women, since we all know women harassment is a real problem over here it seemed like a good idea. Well we were wrong. A lot of women travel with males, and you can't use the "pink bus" if you're a male, it doesn't matter if you're a 6 years old kid, you can't use it. The worst part is that since the whole thing was accepted pretty well and made the governor very popular, they repurposed more buses to be women exclusive and now, almost half of the bus fleet is pink. The problem is that the regular buses are filled with single mothers and women who are accompanied by males, making the regular transport over saturated, meanwhile the pink transport is always filled with less than 10 people per ride. It's -blam!-ing stupid.
