This is not a paradox, but have you guys ever think about why r we here? Alive? Really, why are we here? Really, really think about it?
It creeps me out everytime.

There is no "why" for our existence. Meaning in life is created and manufactured by you. You create meaning for yourself and are the only one that can or should. That is the "meaning of life."
-
We are here to destroy a planet.

Well... that is what most viruses do after all. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Viruses don't destroy planets

Not yet... ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Editado por e4064495: 5/6/2016 10:43:43 AMReally dark thing. The only thing guaranteed in life is death. So is the meaning of life to die? To be something then nothing? Edit: if a child dies before 24 weeks in the womb (when the brain and heart form) did it die or was it never alive...

And that right there is the question that is at the heart of the abortion debate. When you can solve that question you will solve that debate and probably win a ton of awards.
-
MRS GREN. Look it up. Something must do all of these to qualify as life. A baby before 24 weeks doesnt do all of these so therefore isnt alive.
-
Editado por e4064495: 5/6/2016 11:10:35 AMThe 24 weeks comes from a scientific perpective. And apperently its 22 not 24
-
I think that's pretty similar to the accepted theory at the moment which is why the law states that you can only have a baby within the first trimester, though honestly the brain is the first thing to form and the heart is closely followed afterwards all within the first couple of weeks. In fact the first part of the brain system forms within 16 days or so of conception. So at what point does it count as having a formed brain? If not at the beginning of formation, then it must be at the end as the middle is made up of small indiscernible steps in formation. If that's the case then there are plenty of adults that would not be considered alive. The difficulty in finding a definition of life is universalizing it. I tend to err on the side of not killing things if there's any unresolvable ambiguity.
-
A thing must have sensitivity to be alive. The brain being active triggers this. So as the brain isnt active until 22 weeks it is not alive. That is the current view of science. And my view. There you go i solved the abortion argument. Nobel prize here i come.
-
What about people that are born without senses? Since they have less senses your argument implies they are less alive than others and those that have no senses despite breathing and walking would be zombies. You need to more clearly define your terms. Science has no current stand on the definition of life in respect to a fetus because science needs to back up its assertions with physical proof.
-
Imo the definition of life for something like a tree needs to be different from sentient life. For humans and animals there should be something to do with the heart. It should be if either the brain or heart is functioning they are alive.
-
I think you're on a good track and you should flesh it out and think more on it. I'll say my definition of life is very broad on purpose. I'd rather assume that something is alive and treat it that way rather than making the unfortunate assumption that a living organism is not yet alive. I choose to believe that life begins at cellular reproduction.
-
I understand your views. This is why the defenition of life needs to be more specific and needs scientific evidence that there is a specific point in development when life starts. If someone is religious they can choose but religion shouldnt overshadow a scientific defenition for those who arent religious
-
I completely agree. There needs to be more scientific studies on this matter. Science is fact everything else is belief. Though I hope you'll forgive my imprecision in that last sentence. Science is actually just a methodology, but I think I've rambled on long enough, I'll stop bothering you lol.

Nah its good. We had a constuctive debate and potentially just solved one of the worlds problems
-
And more surprising yet about this, was a debate like this happening on bungie.net... truly the end draws nigh! ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Seriously though, it is enjoyable to come across little intelligent debates like this, rather than the flaming troll wars that usually occur on most threads. Though they do have their place and can be enjoyable sometimes :)
Ikr its so rare... Maybe even exotic ;)
