Effective Sniping Requires: Mobility, a steady hand, good hand-eye coordination, and superb aim.
Effective Shotgunning Requires: Situational Awareness, Quick Reactionary time, and the ability to prioritize targets.
Now let me say this, I'm not saying shotgunning is harder then sniping. The average sniper is better then an average shotgunner. But a good shotgunner is definitely better then most snipers.
Sniping isn't as easy as it looks, but you have to look at a few things.
If you put a sniper at one end of the smaller hallway and a group of 4 on the other, a good sniper would have no problem taking them out 9/10 times that situation happens.
Now
If you put a shotgunner in a room with multiple exits with four enemies around him, they have to worry about a few things.
1. How many enemies are here
2. What equipment do I have to help me survive
3. Which enemy is closest, and which presents the biggest threat.
4. Is there anyway to get out of this alive, if not, how many can I take down.
Now before people attack me saying I posted this because I can't snipe, I usually play on striker titan, and shotguns compliment the class well, also because titan skating is extremely effective once learned. (As seen here https://youtu.be/3zuv1awyl0w)
Because the amount of hatemail I get for titan skating up to people at 100 MPH and sticking the barrel of my shotty down thier throat is ridiculous. (No I don't use Juggernaut, Shoulder Charge builds up way to much speed for me not to use it, I dont tank the shots, I just move fast enough to disorient people)
Basically, in terms of learning curve.
Good Sniper > Good Shotgunner > Average Sniper > Average Shotgunner

Blink shotgunning is really hard now

For people who think this isn't true look up Ramblinnn on YouTube.

So true
-
Sniping or rather counter sniping would be alot more exciting if bungie didn't put the stupid glare on.
-
They both take skill to use and they both have users who abuse it (camping, head glitching, glitching into weird areas, etc.). Good shotguns can take down good snipers and vice versa.
-
K/D comparisons are also bias for snipers. They're usually further back and are more often in 1v1. Shotgunners dive into the action head first, it's more fast paced and they take heat from all directions
-
7 RespuestasMost shot gunners I come across are crouching in a corner waiting for you to come round the corner how is this better than I sniper? Others just run and gun. Fusions and Sidearms on the other hand take a bit of skill Side arms need a steady hand, good aim and fast trigger finger Fusions need good anticipation and shot placement
-
2 RespuestasLol the grunt when you died. But seriously tho, the skating thing was very good. Gonna have to wrk on that.
-
Anything that allows you to sit back and have the gun do the work with no risk will always be easier. If there wasnt all the target acquisition, AA, hidden hand.. all the head seeking mechanisms along with super quick handling, it would be a different story. Right now sniping is the easy mode crutch playstyle of most 3v3 players. You cant blame them. Its just the easiest way to get kills. Trials has proven this empirically. People use whats easiest to win.

4 RespuestasEditado por Cue: 4/21/2016 2:21:14 PMA good sniper can normally shotgun, a good shotgunner normally can not snipe imo
-
I'm a god with a sniper and a shotgun. If you sit in the back the whole time, that requires significantly less skill than aggressively sniping which I do which requires skill, barrel placement and counter sniping. Shotgunning straight up is terribly lacking of skill, multi kills with a shotgun show skill, countering a sniper with a shotgun is pretty skilled as well.

I main a voidwalker with my OP party crasher and it's so nice to see someone who understands this haha
-
I'm a shot gunner and shotguning is much much easier than sniping

Editado por Star Gazer2: 4/21/2016 3:23:42 PMHowever, you will find that: 1. mostly everyone hates shotguns. 2. they all consider shotguns to be the scrubbiest weapon in existence no matter how it is use or how much it is nerfed. 3. they all consider snipers to be on top of the skill list no matter how it is used or how much it is spammed. 4. in all snipers vs shotguns arguments, everyone will always side with snipers 9/10 times. 5. there are still people bitching that shotguns are op, and bungie would most likely listen to those players. People will not be satisfied until shotguns literally become nerf guns with foam bullets, and they would still see it as a scrub skill less weapon.

Step 1: Dont be either one of those crutches.

In my defense. A good shotgunner is someone with some very snappy Reflexes and can identify and control various targets at a close range without getting themselves killed in the process. A good sniper is also someone with good reflexes but has that amazing "Steady hand" feeling to it. In my opinion Shotgun vs sniper at close range=Shotgun Sniper vs shotgun long range= Anyone's game Snioer vs Shotgun medium range= Sniper

6 RespuestasI have to disagree, because close quaters sniping is tough. If there is some dude sliding and shotgunning all over the place, he becomes my biggest threat because he has the advantage in close quarters. I have to use my primary and equipment to get this shotgunner off me or get the clutch head shot. I am not saying shotgun takes no skill, but put a sniper in the same set up as the shotgunner you described, he has to account for all the things you mentioned, except you now have no close quaters weapons to fight off the squad around you. A sniper that can come out alive while being surrounded and even take out the team, now that is impressive to me. I never get impressed by shotguns, but that is personally me.
-
Wholeheartedly agree, I'm still amazed as to how many people defended sniping as the "elite" option when something like 90% of the player base were using them. If anything players gravitate to the easier to use guns... To be honest any special requires its own skill set, people who denigrate one are just scrubs. That said, the current PvP seems to have about even special weapon numbers so maybe they finally balance. Maybe.
-
Useless with both :-(
-
1 RespuestaYou're right, only when using a shotgun do you have to worry about escape plans and how many enemies there are.
-
Lmao not a chance. Shotgunning is in fine easier
-
7 RespuestasTry and spin it however you want, but primary weapon shotgunners are scrubs. It requires zero skill to run up to an opponent and push a button.

Just hopped on my titan the other day. However, I prefer to use defender. Force barrier and hawkmoon ftw! I agree that it does take some time. However shotguns are significantly easy to use when first looked at. And that's because people think it's good to get a kill and die immediately after. It's not. Getting kills with a 2-3 kills with a shotgun and surviving is hard. My fav thing to do is go practice in rumble. It's really helpful and helps me with my TOO clutches. Honestly with No Back Up Plans shotguns with a defender is pretty freakin op. Also apparently RNGesus loves me and my hawkmoon. So lucky shots are my friend whenever I'm out of ammo. This comment makes no sense in the order I was saying things. But I needed to say my fill.

A good shotgunners is one that can dodge so if you got your sights on a sniper across the map you better pray that you can dodge a wrench x) ~patches

Being a good shotgunner in pubs/trials is easier than being a sniper in pubs/trials. In actual sweats, yes being a good shotgunner is more difficult than being a good sniper. There is a massive difference between the two.
