Having equipment that essentially causes a constant fluctuation in the effectiveness of our abilities would be disastrous.

How so? You can't say it would be "disastrous" without giving an example.

The change is its own example. Everything in this game would become suddenly unreliable. You could never trust an ability to actually have its intended effect. So people would stop using them. Destiny was intended to have a casual PvP. It's an RPG as much an fps! We are supposed to have awesome cool abilities. They work great in the PvE aspect of this game and they all have their place. Sunsinger dots keep enemies from regenerating shields long enough to reacquire a target that's moved, like a wizard, without then having to bring down its shield again. And they melt hordes of smaller enemies. This game should never have had such drastic changes made to it for PvP reasons. And I love the crucible. It's where I spend most of my time playing. But there's no excuse for them to keep neutering us because a certain group of people think this game should be just another halo clone. Your idea is to add in equipment that nerfs whatever you don't feel like dealing with. Coming up against a team of sunsingers? Well let's throw on our nerf sunsingers chest piece and get this guarteed win. Hence disastrous. Destiny is a game with dots, and slow effects and blinding effects and supers and so many other cool things. And they all just keep getting nerfed, and it doesn't even stop there some people want these abilities removed entirely! To me that's unimaginably selfish and short-sighted. And supporting that type of thought process is something I am vehemently against.
The change is its own example. Everything in this game would become suddenly unreliable. You could never trust an ability to actually have its intended effect. So people would stop using them. So I think you missed the point. I never said it had to negate anything. I gave examples, several of which would have no effect on the damage dealt by firebolt grenades, if you get tagged by one. And if you're worried about abilities suddenly becoming unreliable, then Shadestep should not even be a thing in this game. Destiny was intended to have a casual PvP. It's an RPG as much an fps! But there's no excuse for them to keep neutering us because a certain group of people think this game should be just another halo clone. This is why I suggested armor perks for PvP. The constant trend of nerfing everything is what is robbing this game of what makes it unique. Look at what's happened to shotguns in the Destiny timeline. At launch and up to the Dark Below they were terrible in PvE. Then they got a massive buff and high impact shotguns were introduced and they were fun. You could actually kill a yellow bar without having to reload. Now they're going the other way again. You can barely stagger a yellow bar with a shotgun again. All because of PvP. Well, what if there was a Crucible chest piece that reduced non precision shotgun damage? That would have a two fold effect in that, shotguns could be left as the close range monsters they are supposed to be and it would force players to pick between using a chest piece to combat shotgun damage or grenade damage or any other litany of options you could think of. Your idea is to add in equipment that nerfs whatever you don't feel like dealing with. Coming up against a team of sunsingers? Well let's throw on our nerf sunsingers chest piece and get this guarteed win. Hence disastrous. This statement is just as ridiculous as the notion that using 3 Sunsingers is a guaranteed win. First of all, Sunsingers have more options than just using firebolts (we're all lucky the firebolt nerf didn't happen because then we'd be dealing with triple Sunsingers using Starfire Protocol and Fusion grenades) and Warlocks in general also have 2 very good classes that are largely ignored because of how much better Sunsinger is for revive enabled game types. My idea is to create counter tactics so everything doesn't get so overused all the time which inevitably leads to more nerfs. Destiny is a game with dots, and slow effects and blinding effects and supers and so many other cool things. Bungie has proven time and again that they're going to do as they please. I'm offering an idea, one that if implemented in a balanced way could combat the nerfing.
Nice edit... Well the first example you gave was to completely shut down solar dot. And all the others were almost as extreme. So when you use those as your base, and suggest options to counter everything else in the entire game, it basically seems like you want armor that simulates nerfs. Which I'm against. Bringing up other builds or subclasses is completely irrelevant. And as far as stomping my feet goes well, where has a half thought out shortsighted idea ever gotten us? Ever seen one implemented into the game? And you very effectively dodged my entire argument against your idea. Which was that fluctuating the effectiveness of our abilities is innately bad. Making something have an unreliable effect will only force people to use things that have the most reliable effect. Further limiting our options. And now you want it to apply to guns as well?! Have you ever played a match where someone was lagging just enough to be noticeable? Where what you did should've killed them but didn't and now you're rushing to try and counter that and probably get killed in the process. Frustrates me to no end, and most other players as well. Your idea is just this effect, but on armor. It's would make this game at its core an unreliable nightmare where I could never trust anything I've done to function with the intended effect. And I think that's a bad idea.
