Stupid word to use when you are a gamer. Literally every single ever created IS REPETITIVE. You beat it, then you do it all over again, and again....AND AGAIN!
Name one game that is not repetitive and has new content everyday.

You're right, every game is repetitive. It's annoying how people will use that as a complaint. You literally do the same shit over and over in every game
-
Most of my campaign based games. Played it, beat it, done, move on. I laugh when people mention end game content, but grind on it for months, do you know what "end" means.
-
2 RespuestasYes, but there is a difference between a recurring theme, and doing exactly the same shite over and over again.

1 RespuestaNot repetitive and new content every day... Hmmm.. This real life shit. There's always a new "random thing to stress about" DLC every single day. Then there's the "why does this suddenly hurt" DLC that you slowly play through as the years go by. Followed by the "oh shit, that check might have been made of rubber." events that pop up randomly. Not to mention it has very realistic graphics, insane weather patterns, billionaires (with egos so massive they could provide shade for millions of people) running for president. The list of meaningless crap that constantly changes goes on and on. Even the "repetitive" concept of a "job" has its fair share of new things to experience every day! Like the "hmm... Will this get me fired?" and the "my boss is in a good mood today, that's not a good sign." events. Or the occasional "new coworker, let's see how they screw me over this time!" DLC.

Agreed since the dawn of gaming all games have been repetitive. And I think people are searching for anything when they use the game is Repetitive has a reason to hate a game.
-
I guess a proper word for it would be Fatigue.

Editado por Lethenza: 4/1/2016 3:45:53 PMThe Destiny fanbase is a prime example of this. They play and play and play until they have 3000 hours logged and nothing to do. Their next course of action is to hit the forums with all these "wtf bongi y u no make contint" threads. It's stupid. It's taught me to never play the same game for so long that I get burned out. Having a game rotation really helps me get the most fun out of each game.

Exactly! "Repetitive" gameplay isn't a legit criticism. If you're getting tired of a game it's time to put it down for a few days and play it later.

4 RespuestasLol The word "repetitive" is usually meant to describe specific mechanics or factors within games. I, for example, describe the Witcher's combat as repetitive. If this is applied to games like Destiny, Division, and Warframe, we are talking about repetitive content. What people want is something called a "change in kind." For Destiny, that is currently the sword (dramatically changed combat), the new classes (new gameplay style), and the King's Fall Raid (puzzles instead of combat), but all of this isn't a whole lot. People get bored of the same thing. Apply this to Warframe and Division. Good developers, however, build systems into the game that allow for continual change by the player and the game. For example, Dark Souls has an abundance of different weapons, enemies, and locations. The game is actually very repetitive, but it holds your interest just long enough for you to reach that next change in kind. In other words, Dark Souls doesn't actually have that much content, but it feels like it does.

Agreed. You just have realize that gamers speak in CODE Repetitive == The game repeats in ways that I don't enjoy. Grindy == The game repeats or asks me to do things that I don't like. Too small === I blew through the game's content with the goal of beating the game as fast as possible (so I could prove what a bad ass gamer I was). I didn't enjoy it...and now I'm sitting around with nothing to do...and I want to blame the game for it.

It is not (if) a game becomes repetitive but its about (when) it becomes repetitve. All games have that eventualy, but you could measure the value of the game on when that happens, as well as on the enjoyment you have playing it. I played Destiny for quite and am not afraid to admit I liked playing it, but eventualy it got stale and ...yup repetitive, but do I think its a bad game...no ofcourse not, how can I justify playing a bad game for 800 hours? Same happened with WoW which I played for over 6 years, with some breaks ofcourse, I liked WoW but won't buy Legion because I had my fill of MMORPG's. Now I am playing Warframe, not bored of it yet but I will be eventualy. Its with all these MMOish games, if you get bored within a week its a bad game for you, but if you played it 100+ hours than you can't say its bad, that would be dumb. Then you have the games that only last a few hours or days like most singleplayer storydriven games, and thats where enjoyment is key. I liked Shovelknight and Transistor but only played them for a few hours and never replayed them, but I still consider them good games because I enjoyed those hours playing them.

Yeah verbiage could be better. But when most players say something is repetitive they really mean it "feels" repetitive. Which is important.
-
1 RespuestaMaybe some of the more linear titles deal with that but saying something that has tremendous value like an open world RPG is no different than Cookie Clicker?

Snake, minesweeper, solitaire...you catch the drift

It doesn't need new content, it needs enough content so the repetitive grind isn't felt. Secret World, you grind the shit out of it to build your character, it has plenty of content though. Final Fantasy 14, mega grind, tons of content. The grind is there but you can break it up with other things. Just having the grind doesn't keep people around. It artificially extends content but, as you see with MMO's, quite a few people don't stick around.
