How about and alternative system where Bungie actually sits down and plans a path of progression and quests that award gear and instead of holding on to a specific item you simply unlock access to the item; whether it's a weapon, armor piece, weapon perk, etc. Players no longer have the need to hold on to items because they can simply select from items they have unlocked which ones they would like to equip. This also eliminates the need for the system to store every unique item you acquired and its unique state; item, current light value, selected perks, available perks. Tracking all of this information for all items for every character is very inefficient.
But changing this would require actual planning, and frankly I don't know they are capable of this anymore.

It would also remove a lot of the RNG aspect, and I think that's a fundamental part of their game design, as it caters to the addiction-prone and extends the grind, which is necessary to keep people playing. One day, I'm hoping Bungie figures that you can keep people playing a game by making the game enjoyable instead of taking all the fun out of it with every new update, and frustrating the hell out of their players.

I hope as well, unfortunately after nearly a year and a half experimenting and nearly 6 months of no meaningful content; that hope is fading rapidly. I left the game for a while and came back for IB, only to be reminded why I had stopped. Don't get me wrong there are aspects I enjoy, it's just the rest that take that enjoyment away.

A lot of people feel this way. They (and I) play less, only doing a few things because of how frustrating the game is, and how unrewarding it is, and how much Bungie has shown they don't actually respect their players at all. IB was a laggy nightmare this time around. You'd think they would at least get THAT right, since they pander to the PvP'rs so much and Iron Banner is like the Flagship of PvP events. I just shake my head, log off, and go do something else.

Exactly. The astounding thing is Bungie moves along as if nothing is wrong. There are few games that start with the opportunities that surrounded Destiny; a huge and loyal fan base, a growing fan following from their reveal, an exploding fan community of websites, twitch streams, etc and they have squandered it all through silence and indifference. Outside of the gaming world, there would not be just one person stepping down and the next guy in charge would be running a full PR campaign to save the ship, so he doesn't go down with it (in other words, by now we should all know the plan). Whether we like it or not is less relevant, but we should know it.

I get the feeling we do know the plan: Nothing.

All the evidence would indicate you are correct.

Sometimes I really hate being right. This is one of those times I pray I'm wrong. O_o

I think in this case we all are hoping your wrong, sorry.

No apologies necessary. I'm totally with you on that one! :)
