I'm experiencing the same issue as well and have not heard back from Bungie! Did you buy the physical edition of Taken King? I've noticed on these forums that most people experiencing this issue has the physical copy. What happened with me was the link kept saying i havent played it and now it says I'm not a user! It's very annoying!! Bungie please respond!

Yeah, he bought a physical copy. Should he delete it and reinstall it?

I have no idea to be honest. I'm in the same boat and haven't heard back from Bungie if they plan on fixing this or if it is a user error or what. All i know is that since it tells me I'm not a new user anymore, I most likely will never be able to claim the refer a friend reward unless Bungie grants access on their back end
