In Year 1, we as a player base have put up with a lot.
You took away the loot cave, the one thing the community created. Something that created friendships, created rivals, and brought a lot of people on hoping for that one golden egg. You took it away, and we all said "Well I'm angry, but you actually made purples drop purples now. They're rarer than they were, but at least I get good stuff now."
You gave us the raid, gave us the hardest gun to achieve and brought it to it's knees just as quick. We all said "Yeah, a 50 mag size and higher time to kill than even auto rifles was a bit overboard. It was a super hard gun to get, but it does need toned down"
We eventually said the same to auto rifles, but you kept nerfing them until they were trash. Weapons have unfortunately always been this way, but we've rolled with it because diversity. Except the hand cannon meta for 6 months. That was utter crap, and you know it. Shotguns are going the way of the auto rifle right now, and it's quite sad.
We (Well, not we here, because I had no idea you could do this until after they patched it) used in game mechanics that make enemies back away from grenades to push off raid bosses. We said "That's fair, it was cheap and made the whole thing not seem as worth it".
We then received The Dark Below, the most lackluster DLC for a game I've seen. We all said "Well it's out fault for buying the season pass. We should have waited".
Then House of Wolves came out. We had no raid, the Prison of Elders and Trials of Osiris broke apart our teams we'd formed bonds with because we needed the best members because it was limited to 3 people. We said "I'm bitter about it, but they never promised a raid, so I guess it's fine"
Then we hear about TTK. "Hey, people who haven't played yet! You can get everything that our 'loyal' customers have bought for a grand total of$140, for just $60 (Because our game had so many hostile reactions that the market value plummeted far more than any other game in a year)! We'll even give you exclusive rewards that those already playing can't get, they'd have to buy everything all over again to do so" We said "That's not fair Bungie. We deserve to get these things too for playing for so long!" And Bungie was like "We done goofed, 'loyal' customers, so here, for a simple $20, you can get some exotics, emotes, and shaders that you'll probably vault anyway." We became divided on this stance of paying for cosmetics that still permeates today. The majority however, whether reluctant or gung-ho, accepted it, and it stayed in.
Then you decide to charge more money for stuff, even making the two things everyone wanted expensive enough people would have to spend extra money for them. We cried wolf, but were silenced by those saying "It's cosmetic. It isn't hurting the game, you don't have to get it, and it's not moving past cosmetics" Again, the majority has accepted it, maybe even spent some money, and moved on.
And now, you do refer a friend. The majority of us have already gotten our friends to get this game long ago. We have formed out groups, and don't need more people in because we already have more than 6 we talk with on a regular basis. You make it so we can't get this stuff without paying for a second account to have PSN/Gold so we can get this stuff. But wait! For three easy payments of $49.95, they can be yours today! I assume this is what will happen within a few weeks. I had actually planned to make this comical using that part, but this just seemed like such a huge scam for more money I couldn't bring myself to do it.
Bungie, you're treading on thin ice here with many people. Think wisely about how you want to play this out. And for the love of God, don't let Luke Smith or Deej say anything about this stuff. Both have been bad PR for a bit now, and you can't afford too much more.
I don't want to quit this game, Bungie, but you're making it very hard to want to keep going with this middle finger you keep giving to existing players and free candy to the new ones. Eventually, you will run out of new players and by then the old ones will have probably left and won't be coming back.
TLDR; Don't comment if you didn't read the whole thing.
Edit: Holy butternuts, I've never had this many replies or upvotes before. I haven't had a chance to read/reply to everyone, and doubt I will, but for those who commented, good or bad, thank you for your input.
Edit 2: Broke 1000 replies. Thank you all, both those who agree and those who don't. It's good to have the differing opinions, that's what makes us unique. I've been on a plane all day with no internet, so I haven't gotten to read everything from people, but I will try to go through and read all the posts, maybe make a comment or two.

1 RespuestaYou don't give any more bait to the mouse that's already trapped.

1 RespuestaWhy is Bungie so vague about the issues this game has? There are so many things that they could do to fix them, but instead they remain quiet about it. I mean, they could make year 2 go out with a bang instead of letting it gradually deteriorate.
"Yea they got off to a rough start with year 1, but in year 2 they really stepped up their game." Come on Bungie...
Everything you said was spot on true. Well said.

1 RespuestaWhy is it that months ago when I was saying the same shit even before TTK came out I got a bunch of hate and downvotes. You guys are like the abused girlfriend in a relationship who doesn't have the balls to break things off.

Half the comments here are people who didn't read even half the loot cave, the other half are people who can genuinely agree with some points made here.
-
Bump, I agree, this is why i'm taking a break from Destiny.
-
I had to stop reading after you tried to make shooting at a hole some deep and profound experience instead of the boring exploit that it was. Incredibly corny and cringeworthy. I'm sorry.

1 RespuestaI agree with some and disagree with the rest. Good post. I don't personally feel like I have put up with anything though. I've just been shooting alien things for ages with my mates and I've had a lot of fun doing so :) Guess that means I am not part of the year 1 player base... even though I am. Those that agree with you 100% will no doubt be on in a sec saying my KD means I am irrelevant, my grimoire is crap, or because I enjoyed TDB at the time my point is invalid. Thats fine. Wouldn't be bungie without the special folk.

You forget Activi$ion is involved and bends Bungie to their will. They will always find a way to bleed money out of us.

10 RespuestasI paid to have my son go to full day kindergarten 2 years ago. A new law passed and now it's free for everyone. QQ I paid full price for my TV. Now I see that you get a 25.00 gift card if you purchase it on Black Friday. QQ I've been with Xfinity for a few years. They won't let me in on the First Time Service discount prices because...QQ I bought so much gas at Super America before they started their rewards program. QQ I pay about 10k a year for insurance and 15k in taxes. Others pay nothing. QQ My friend pays less for the gym because of a one time Groupon. QQ I'm a Cubs fan. QQ

Finally someone who sees destiny for what it is. I thought #offtopic were the only ones.

2 RespuestasIt's a videogame. Get over it.

They got the dlc from year 1 for free because it's basically useless can't expect people to pay the same as you when it's a year old !!! And yes it can be annoying but how are they going to get new people to play?? O you want to play destiny well your going to have to pay for the game then 2 dlcs then th taken king and not only that you are looking at 100 hours to even start to catch up with people yh like that's going to happen why do you care??? They dont even get a lot a sparrow and emote or something :/. just enjoy what you play and stop hating on people because you had to so call work to get your exotics !! You didn't it's a game you play to have fun if you don't then try something else :)
-
I completely and utterly agree.

1 RespuestaWe all know what this is abouy. It is to rebuild their struggling player base. Most year one vets have probably moved on to other games at this point. Some may be still doing a nightfall or iron banner, but not a daily play through. This "refer a friend" is a bait tactic. Since People Like shaders, emotes, and sparrows; They Thought To Create This trash. A feeble come back and bring along somebody we haven't jaded with broken promises. I love this game, and see the great potential it has, however the direction where the game is going, I don't want to follow.

I understand your frustration. I am about to hit some other games that have been waiting for me on the shelf.

Destiny's Matchmaking sucks so much dick, I mistake the game for an actual hooker named Destiny. -Salty Guardian Other Famous Sayings - "Their matchmaking is so bad, my k/d is dropping"

Beat the almighty time's conflux in a badass vex stronghold = red sparrow. Beat a hive God in an alternate dimension = green sparrow. Buy another copy of the game = coolest effing shit space tron moped. Them strong logics.

I agree, it's almost as if Year 1 has been removed from existence, apart from the memories and players.
-
4 RespuestasPeople act like this game is forced on them. "in year one base players put up with a lot" if you don't wanna play then don't? They aren't insisting you do. You're choosing to play. Isn't that in itself saying that this game is good enough to spend time on? If you don't think so then stop playing. This isn't that complicated.
-
Yeah, their focus on getting new players is becoming too much. Instead of creating new events, dlcs and content to keep current players happy, they just ask the current players to bring in a new fan base to replace all the people that left for other games

I remember my first legendary engram.... It was a gauntlet engram that dropped from one of the ads during the archon priest strike. I ran to the cryptarch just to receive ascendant energy that I had no use for.

4 RespuestasEntitled little brat. You act as if someone is forcing you to play destiny.
we as a player base have put up with a lot
You should be paying for fun. You shouldn't have to be "putting up with" anything. When I feel that I am putting up with things and not having fun with the game, I move on to something else. Nobody is forcing you to play destiny. If you don't like it, play something you will actually enjoy.
