You have 2 children. One grows up in a non religious home and does not believe in God. One child is born in a Christian house hold and is brought up to believe in God. The child who doesn't believe in God is a very kind hearted person, throughout his life he volunteers, treats everyone well, and becomes a successful surgeon that saves the lives of many. The child who does believe in God however, spends his time picking on other children, using any drug he can get his hands on, and ends up dying after shooting himself in the head after he shot up his high school, but still maintaining his belief in God till the end. Would God send child #1 to hell after all the good he's done only because he never had a belief in him and let the child who murdered children live in paradise forever because he did believe in him?

  • Honestly there are sadly many different denominations of belief concerning this area, but in mine child 2 would go to hell on account of the bad things he has done, Just believing in God does grant you a pass to heaven, all the demons and lucifer himself know God exists but they are still in hell for what they did. Child 1 while won't go to heaven, and will probably go to the nicest part of hell. Remember hell isn't the devil's kingdom, rather it is more of a prison, or a state of being that lacks God and therefore love. So he would probably be in a limbo like place where he will stay till the millennium, but that is a whole different subject.

  • But why would child #1 still go to hell? It doesn't seem fair to punish someone just because of their faith, even though they did such great things. If God gave us all free will, why is he then taking it away by making all non-believers live eternally in hellish prison? That doesn't seem just or loving.

  • Your are looking at the situation in the wrong way. God does not condemn anyone to hell. We condemn ourselves. Before God sacrificed his son for us, there was no way to get to heaven. Thanks to our sinful nature we are born already condemned to die. Thankfully now if we believe in God and Accept Christ, we can go to heaven. Sadly child 1 would go to hell because he didn't accept salvation. Of course though God promises to always give the opportunity for someone to accept his gift, but sadly if child 1 never accepts he can't go to heaven. Not because God hates anyone who doesn't believe in him, but because they didn't accept what he did for them. Just like if I gave you a million dollars but you didn't accept it, you wouldn't have a million dollars. Man due to his sin nature cannot go to heaven unless he accepts god's sacrifice.

  • How is someone born sinful? Are we born sinful because we're human? That doesn't seem fair. And if the reason we're born sinful is because of what our ancestors did, why are we being judged by things we didn't even do? And someone shouldn't go to hell because of something they believe. They aren't hurting anyone, and they aren't trying to be disrespectful. They are only following the things they believe in. Why give us free will if it's meaningless?

First people are not necessarily born sinful, they are born with a sin nature, after the fall of man. What sin nature means is that it is natural for us to sin. It is literally impossible due to man's sin nature to go threw life without sinning. Sinning isn't just being mean or evil or unfair. It can be the slightest thing like yelling at your neighbor or being mad at your boss. These things no matter how big or small still are sin. Just like if I dropped a single grain of dirt on a perfectly clean paper, technically it is now dirty. Secondly, you don't go to hell because you believe something or not, you go to hell for sinning. No matter how kind or how well minded you are, you cannot go threw life without sinning. Simply because it's our nature to. It was not originally, it was only like this after the fall of man. Before we had a nature to do good. Now all that is left of that nature is morality. Thirdly, if you are still reading this, ( it's a decent wall of text I know ) you seem to be confusing free-will with free-thought. And even then you do have free thought as well. You can believe or disbelieve anything you want. But if it is against God like satanism, atheism, or most beliefs are directly rebelling against God. Saying he is evil, doesn't exist, or isn't the true God. And a truly just God would not let evil go unpunished. He may forgive people yes, but what would be stopping you or me to become the next Stalin, if whatever we did could be seen as trying to do the right thing. If you do something wrong like murder, no matter your intentions or motive, it is against the law, it is wrong. So God lets you do whatever you want so long as you live with the consequences of your actions. If you could rob a bank and not get arrested, what's stopping you?

  • So God's just throwing anyone who believes differently in hell out of fear of a rebellion, or a horrible person? That still doesn't seem fair. Judge a person by their actions not their religion. And you can get rid of sin without being religious, it's called forgiveness.

No, no, no you see sin is rebellion against God. It is the absence of God. Like cold is the absence of heat. In heaven God is everywhere, he is there. You cannot let sin go to heaven. The only way to go to heaven for us humans now is to be forgiven, but someone had to be punished as a sacrifice ( Christ ). Now God is offering forgiveness to man, but man cannot accept forgiveness unless he admits to being wrong. God forgives you either way now, whether you ask for it or not, but we have to receive forgiveness to be truly forgiven. Edit: people go to hell for their actions. Rejecting God and believing something else instead is still your action to do so.

  • But can you blame someone for not believing if they have never witnessed god or his actions? Currently, there isn't any proof disproving or confirming his existence, only assumptions and theories. But can you truly blame someone for not knowing? That isn't fair.

  • God would never show himself to the world, because then no one would have any choice but to serve him. God doesn't want servants or slaves. He wants a relationship with someone like him. Someone that has creativity, love, grief, and inspiration. He can't get that from someone who will love him, because if not he will suffer. He wants someone like him, to talk to, to entertain, to show his creations like a father would show his son the world. You can't blame someone who would not believe in God, but you shouldn't be blamed for believing in him either. Again it isn't that we do not believe in God that we go to hell. We go to hell for our actions, and suffer them according in hell. That is why a murder will suffer much more than a good hearted man. God wants everyone to go to heaven, to be with him and have a relationship with him. But there is hope. God promises that those who have there hearts right and truly seek Him and the truth will find Him.
