The other day someone told me the Dark Drinker does more damage then the raze-lighter. I assumed he meant per swing, and tonight I decided to try it out. I tested this out on the current daily story mission's Colossus. I used a 280 Raze-Lighter from the kiosk and a 280 Dark-Drinker on the colossus. I only had scabbard perks on both of my swords, so there is no warrior of light accounted for. I did do this on two separate accounts, but I made sure they were the same light level- 298
I found out the Raze-Lighter does Four rows of damage per swing, the first doing 2856 Damage and then the other three doing 7139. You won't always see all four of these numbers, most ads don't even survive the first hit of 2856 Damage. But the Colossus Tanked all four hits for me to record it. So that means in total against this enemy the Raze-Lighter does 2856+(7139 x 3)=24273 per swing.
So the Dark-Drinker Behaves Very similarly in the way of out it preforms by doing multiple hits of damage, each hit does the exact same amount of damage of 2856, and after lots of wiping I was able to count 8 hits on the Colossus. Do the math and 2856 x 8=22848.
So, the raze-Lighter does just slightly more damage then the Dark Drinker, just slightly. You may be wondering to yourself "Why use the raze-lighter when the Dark-Drinker does almost the same amount of damage but in a circle?" Well my answer to that is that the spin attack is slow and can be walked out of sometimes. It's not good to try on bosses because its slower DPS due to the long lasting circle swing and leaves you in the open While Raze-Lighter has one quick slash dealing insane damage making it best for single targets like bosses.
Alright so I know it's been awhile, probably too long, but I've gotten myself a raze lighter and I've tested out the effects of warrior of light.
I'm doing the same story mission on the same cabal colossus, however it's a heroic instead of daily heroic (I didn't see a difference) So, with a 280 dark drinker as a 305 guardian I dealt 2856 without warrior of light. After equipping warrior of light on my sword I dealt 3570 damage per row. FYI, warrior of light has no impact on the number of rows per swing. 3570/2865 which equals a on the dot 25% damage increase when using warrior of light. This means I'll be doing 28560 damage per swing with the warrior of light, 4k damage above the raze lighter without warrior of light. The question is, does raze-lighter benefit more from warrior of light then dark drinker?
With a 280 raze lighter as a 305 guardian without warrior of light same mission same colossus I dealt 2856 on my first row and then 7139 on the final three rows of damage. That's still the same, so, with the warrior of light bonus the initial 2856 was not affected but the damage went up to a staggering 8924 damage on the final three rows. The multiplier has actually increased VERY slightly from the dark drinker, and the reason is the raze lighters 7139 times 1.25 is 8923.75, so the game just rounds up. This makes the SLIGHTEST difference though. So, anyway, with the warrior of light on raze lighter I deal 29628 damage per swing.
In my opinion, this does not affect the purpose of the swords. Dark drinker for crowd control and raze lighter for single target damage. However, the raze lighter does less damage per swing without warrior of light then a dark drinker with warrior of light, so keep that in mind. (Note* It's not necessarily slower since dark drinkers attack takes awhile it's just less dmg per swing) You really want to utilize that raze lighter damage bonus on warrior of light in PvE as that's a LOT of damage per swing. Sorry I took so long to do this, but here it is now.
edited for a typo.
Edited again because I forgot to mention guardian levels.
Edit: Thanks for all the kind words and cool opinions, It's awesome to see all kinds of people with different sword preferences come here to discuss.
Next Edit: Lots of people are trying to talk down on one sword or another. As a few of you have pointed out, it's simple.
You would use a dark-drinker for crowd control.
You would use a raze-lighter for single target damage
You would use a bolt-caster for range.
I would also like to add why I did not include bolt-caster's damage. I did not because there are many variables to account when totaling damage. I struggled to count the rapid 8 ticks the dark-drinker had. I won't be totaling the disc impact and the electrical storm and see if the disc does lingering damage. I'm open to hear someone else's results however.
Yet another edit; I was gone for just one day and this topic managed to smash more then FIFTY replies and become very popular, and I couldn't be happier about it. However I tried to reply to everything before it's almost impossible now with so many of us starting so many conversations. I will come every now and then and try to help some people sympathize with play styles and understand and maybe double check some peoples math. But I'm glad to see everyone come here and discuss, it's awesome to see so many of us here.
ANOTHER edit: alright so this time I'll be addressing some frequent questions; firstly the issue of why my swords are 280 and not 310, and then why I chose not to use warrior of light. My friends sword and mine were at different levels, his raze lighter at 315 and my dark drinker at 310. The damage would change in favor of the raze lighter so I chose to use the kiosk versions. From then on I used motes of light to level up both swords to max, and I chose to use scabbard. The debate of scabbard vs. warrior of light are for another topic, here we are looking for RAW damage numbers. If you want to see the increased damage difference test it for yourself. I plan to test it later but I won't have access to my buddies account for awhile. Keep up the awesome diversity here!

2 RespuestasEditado por SkyballS: 11/5/2015 2:49:33 AMIt's a common known fact that if guardians had dildos dark drinker would be one of them.
-
2 RespuestasThe problem with your test though is that neither was maxed. The perks increase damage and we don't know if it's equal damage increases for each sword.

3 RespuestasRaze lighter is the strongest sword but dark drinker has the coolest animation so I use it because it's not THAT much weaker.
-
1 RespuestaDark Drinker Mob Control is important The Raze Light does a shit tone of damage but that's only towards one enemy. Good for taking down majors and bosses but if you have a team doing what they should be doing then it's not necessary to use a sword on them.

Tether + Dark Drinker + Skyburner's Anex= Too many orbs to count
-
Love all 3 but my favorite to use is Dark Drinker on my nightstalker. Tether + spin to win = love + orbs.

6 RespuestasRaze Lighter = Power Dark Drinker = Style Bolt Caster = Just there to make a trio but okay

I kinda prefer Raze-Lighter over all the others. Just does a shite ton of damage and looks pretty badass. I like it a lot

5 RespuestasI saw a 298 kill one of the Tier 1 CoO bosses in 1 hit with his special... He was using Raze lighter.

I one shotted a sunbreaker with raze-lighter while he was mid super, and got out alive.

Raze lighter

2 RespuestasRaze lighter one shots Crota That is all

9 Respuestas280 exotics swords. That's what has me calling bs on your story.

3 RespuestasBolt Caster is the best all around sword. I can do tons of damage to bosses and high level enemies without even getting near them. Just aim in their general vicinity and it locks on. And of course it is the only sword that can be used well in crucible Bolt caster for the win

Dark drinker...

2 RespuestasNice test. Not just that Raze Lighter does the damage more quickly, but also follow up attacks are almost instant. You can spam that uppercut.

5 RespuestasEditado por MunchyBrains: 11/5/2015 2:23:42 AMEach sword has it's strengths. Let's leave it at that. I'm tired of people saying which sword is better. Childish.

5 RespuestasHere's the end to this. EACH. SWORD. WAS. DESIGNED. DIFFERENT! Raze: one target, massive damage. Drinker: AREA ATTACK Bolt: Ranged You can't even compare them dude. They do completely different things to effect different areas. Can raze-lighter kill 8 thrall around you at once? No. Can dark drinker do massive amounts of damage to bosses? Not always. Can bolt caster do either of those? No.
-
All three are fun to use. Personally I probably like dark drinker best, but it doesn't do damage like raze lighter can; if I need really high damage output, I'll use raze.
-
12 RespuestasThey need to be compared when the perks are all filled.

4 RespuestasWould the increased damage perks increase the damage at different rates? Like the raze lighter damage increase be more than the dark drinkers?
