This nerf was needed. Whether you want to admit it or not. That is, if you wanted balance.
I love shotguns. Never go into PvP without one. Or PvE for that matter. They compliment my playstyle, up close and in the action.
But.
Ever since reforging was a thing, people have been using Party Crasher, Matador, or Felwinters. With shotpackage, aggressive ballistics, and rifled barrel, there was no better shotgun to use in PvP. Period.
I loved my Matador. It was ridiculous, sometimes i'd catch myself saying "wow that killed him from that far away?"
With the release of 2.0 however, I knew that I'd have to put down my 170 attack Matador, in order to season myself for iron banner and trials, because my old weapons would be obsolete.
As far as primaries go, I'm really liking my Suros ARI-45.
Secondaries? Still trying to find a good shotgun.
So far the best one I have is The Next Big Thing with full auto and rifled barrel. It's range is good but it's no Felwinters, and at the time I was under the impression that with a decent shotgun, I would at least stand a chance if I had just a shred of skill.
Well.
Every close encounter I got into, I'd always end up getting constant hit markers and I'd get rekt with a year one party Crasher. Simply because the perks on those types of shotguns will always, always be the best.
Which is why shotpackage needed to be removed for the sake of balance.
Maybe with this removal, shotguns will actually be more of a risk and take a bit more timing and skill, than to comfortably get kills from across the room with Felwinters.
With that being said, to any shotgun user that still uses felwinters, or Matador in the crucible, it'd be best for you to try out a year two shotgun. Using the year ones will spoil you, and it'll be tough to transition over to a shotgun that doesn't have a god roll. Trust me, I know from experience.
That's my take on it anyway.

I'm mostly a sniper, so shotguns (outside f camping and lol blink) don't really bother me. Even blink shotgun isn't that bad especially with changes. But they need to take away rangefinder too. Why take away shot package just to give us a shotgun that can do almost the same thing for free from a quest? I've actually been out ranged by it once or twice using felwintwers. Moral of the story, shotguns are mediocre at best right now and need shotlackage , range finder to compete. If not for those perks I can kill a shotgun faster with almost any precision shots up close baring a scout rifle.
