This is how it starts.

"It's just emotes" you say. "Don't complain and don't buy it" you say. "Companies have to make money too" you say. But if this proves to be successful, it will just get worse. Now it's emotes. Next it's ships and shaders. Then it's engrams. Then it's weapons and armor. If we let them get away with this, they will try to get away with more. We have to draw a line and say "no further". We have to stamp out microtransactions here and now. We can't let them get away with this. I'm up for argument if you disagree with me. EDIT: I've read through the update again and saw nothing about free DLC anywhere. EDIT: For people using the slippery slope argument: that argument can go either way. They might not ever add any besides cosmetics, but it's better to be safe than sorry. They are more likely to put in more in the future if we respond to this first venture positively. EDIT: 1000th comment! Woooo! EDIT: These replies are starting to make me feel depressed. So many people are just willing to throw their money at bungie. EDIT: After reading many replies and having many debates, I can see that It might be okay. As long as they stay just cosmetic, I guess that the desticles will be paying for all of my DLC this year. As long as it stays as cosmetics until the end of the series, I'll be fine.

  • Just watch all the bungie puppets go in defend mode. I'm speaking more towards all the youtubers and podcaster that get free trips to play the content.

Slippery slope arguments state that a relatively small first step leads to a chain of related events culminating in some significant effect.
Now, in the article, it also states that if a reasonable warrant can be provided, that the argument is not a Slippery Slope. Be that as it may, I do not believe that there is enough evidence for "Pay to Win" being incorporated in Destiny's Future. Without reasonable evidence, this is simply "fear mongering" meant to appeal to the Destiny community's fear. It's stoking the flames under Bungie for a problem which doesn't exist and will not likely ever exist. So can we agree that people paying money to bust a move in Destiny isn't worth getting emotionally distraught over?

      • When it plays into people having an advantage online multi-player i can understand. Right now and even if engrams were added it's not effecting you, just them. It's about your personal experience. I'm so tired of people being so upset about what OTHERS do with their time and money, when it effects you then I can see your point.

        • The massive flaw in this logic is that once you've unlocked everything you've got nothing left to do. Destiny is all about playing the loot lottery each week for better or more unique gear, if they allow us to buy it all then people will buy all the stuff then get bored and leave, a Pay 2 Win model would ruin the game, if I realise this being a random guy on the internet then you can bet all of Activisions experienced analysts also realise this. Take the tin foil hats off boys, these transactions are for stupid dances and will make a boat load of money, if they sell in game items that cash stream will dry up fast when everyone leaves.

            • Hello my name is mez-crippin and I have an addiction to shaders at first it was just thunder devil but then I learned about chatter white and Beowulf I couldn't help myself I was collecting shaders from everywhere then I got ahold of revenant and well.. I started selling my gear and everything else for a chance at bitter steel I did unspeakable things on the moon for my chance at glowhoo... What I'm saying is I'll totally buy exclusive shaders who cares? Sure I get nobody wants to pay to play but... You already are.. You pay for your internet (this only applies to those that actually pay and not those that steal from neighbors and local restaurants...) You pay for your electric and your service provider Xbox live and psn plus granted its $50 a year for either if you total that all up honestly destiny is your cheapest bill out there But it's not considered because your so used to paying your internet and electric bills so it's become as simple as breathing I totally get why most are worried/concerned about micro transactions But at the same time bungie has started rewarding those that grind this game out three of coins vanguard streak bonus? Nobody considered that. I understand your concern but at the same time deej realized what the veterans thought about not receiving anything and the new guys who got all this gear and extra things for just starting out and he made sure it was stated that the veterans would be accommodated I am a year one vet and trust me what we received didn't hold a candle to what the new guardians did but in no way did I dwell on it $20 new dance moves your choice to buy Just like it was your choice to raid and squire vault of glass gear you didn't have to the next DLC you could buy your gear and be lvl 31 Us that did grind VOG out were beyond pissed about that but we got over it now you can only hit 300+ (as far as I seen) with raid gear again making sure the endgame players are rewarded and then again next DLC they might backtrack again and let you buy your gear and get past 300+ I'm in no way a fortune teller but micro transactions were talked about more than your all aware of nobody likes change I myself completely agree I don't like change either but at the same time look at what's happened Suros complained about-nerfed Valus tu'arac health too high-lowered Lag switchers in trials-banned Thorn overpowered-left behind in year 1 Elitist only accepting guardians with gally and ice breaker-left behind in year 1 So bungie listens always and they pay attention nobody can say they don't but they introduce something new and the forums explode they walk on egg shells to accommodate us and the constant complaining (whether just or not) You can count on sun breaker being nerfed it's already happened with the hammer glitch actually there's a new glitch I found that hasn't been posted yet (; hope you have a Titan (only hint I'm giving) Let the micro purchases happen let them spend their money let it be for once most won't most won't even read all this no big deal I know it's long but trust me bungie does pay attention and they're always watching...always...

              • I agree with you to some degree ... However, I really believe that the micro transactions will remain purely cosmetic. My reason for believing this is simple: Activision tried this with Diablo 3's Real Money Auction House and it was an absolute failure. End game loot was pay-for-play, and instead of grinding out gear in good old Diablo fashion people we're paying hundreds and thousands of dollars for the best loot. They eventually removed it after seeing how toxic the community became (bots were stockpiling gold and loot, selling for a profit both inside and outside the RMAH), and the game evolved into what it originally should have been on release.

              • How about that Suros pack being garbage? I also remember donating to charity and that not being as advertised. I am not sure I support them this time just because allot of this stuff already has not been worth it. I actually like the emotes I have already bought but I am not sure I am willing to pre-pay or buy extras anymore.

              • This is unacceptable in my opinion. Most of us have spent around $150 on this game. Introducing microtransactions into that is just appalling. Also, yes I completely agree before long vendor items are going to start requiring this "Silver." The player base really has to step up and let Bungie know we will not tolerate this crap. This kind of crap should be rewards or buyable with glimmer. Hell, even RNG or marks buying would be ok. Let me put this in perspective. I'm using FFXIV as an example because it's the last thing MMORPG I played. Yes, it had a buy fee and a subscription fee, fyi. You make a character and what's this? Like 40 emotes. Oh, it's Halloween or Christmas? Have some quests to get some free goodies. Oh, you want to change how your character looks? Let us just introduce an NPC that can completely change how your character looks. Let's also have some random events every month we keep players interested until our next update (FREE UPDATE) is ready. Destiny's equivelant? Here; 3 races, 3 faces, half a dozen hair colors, some eye and lip colors, and 3 voices. Emotes? Have 4. (FFXIV had 8 voices for each gender. 16 per race). Also, don't give me that PS3/Xbox 360 jibberish. It's not relevant. You're probably asking why I'm comparing Destiny to a subscription fee based MMORPG, eh? We are already paying a subscription fee and by the time Destiny 2 is slated to release most of us will have spent $200+ on Destiny if not more. I'd rather have a subscription fee and have them give us this stuff for free to keep us interested in the game like my game above. This new announcement means we're going to be paying a 4 month subscription fee for each DLC and on top of that they are now going to ask us to pay them more for stuff that should be free? Absolutely disgusting. TTK was a step in the right direction for me personally. They fixed a lot of the issues I had with the game after the crap DLC of year one. This, however, nullifies all the good they did. All because Activision wants all the money. Bungie needs to grow a pair and tell Activision to screw off. As much as Microsoft sucks they knew to leave Bungie alone when they were making Halo. It's a shame Activision is all about money and not content. Sure, they have a contract, but I can guarentee it doesn't give Activision god status at Bungie. Man up, Bungie. Grow a pair and say enough is enough. I'm in a holding pattern. Quite frankly i'm sick of this shit. I'll see how this crap is when they introduce it, but right now I am pretty sure I am not dropping another dime on this franchise. I've been burned 3 out of 5 times. (2 crap DLC and CE items. All utter garbage). They only way I'd support this system is if they add ways to get this stuff in game. Buying will still be faster (which is the point), but if you're patient you can get the stuff you want by earning it via playing the game. Which is how it should be.

                • Micro transactions aren't always a bad thing. In mass effect, the DLCs were free because they were getting enough money from the micro transactions. You are acting like its the end of the world because people are gonna look different from you. I'd be willing to bet money that bungie wouldn't sell any weapons or armor through the form of micro transactions. If you buy 'silver', good for you. If u don't, good for you. The players using real money will have no advantage against those not

                • You just pull a conclusion out of your ass, saying that eventually they will make the game pay2win. Its not even a likely conclusion. If they sell shaders, sparrows, emblems, "transmog" skins for armor and weapons etc. It won`t make the slightest difference for the game, or balance in-game. They will make more money, sure. But i can tell you believe this to be a bad thing, why? I would of course have a huge problem, if a player in the crucible suddenly got a UFO that nuked the entire map when he got a 3 enemy kill streak bonus. And later found out this was sold for $10 in the tower.

                • I honestly don't care even slightly. I have spent $260 in total on destiny, and I'd do it again. This game has EASILY been worth the $260 in the time I've put into it. Hell, even more than that. Would I pay 3 bucks for a shader or ship or whatever? You bet. So long as it's never weapons or armor, I'm totally cool with it. It's not like BO2 ever added guns for purchase. There was the 1 that came with a dlc map pack, but that's it. Past that it was only gun skins and cards. <3~~Shino Asada~~<3

                    • The slippery slope argument does not go both ways. You have, by definition come to a conclusion way too far down the line without any empirical indicator. Anyone saying that they won't do it at all has also made the same error. It doesn't make you right or wrong as far as the actual premise goes, but you definitely have a flawed argument here. That is the idea.
