Looks like initial rumours were wrong, Deej from Bungie has confirmed no character drops, I felt exactly the same as you when I heard it, but don't worry, you can rest easy guardian :D

Too many changes to a game I already purchased. My hope is hanging on by a thread. Thanks for the clarification.

I think most of the changes that are getting implemented are by listening to those who comment on them in the forums and the Destiny community, so by making your thoughts and comments known you're actually contributing and shaping the game yourself by doing just that.
