Skolas is just not fun

Look I get it the final boss is supposed to be challenging but this is just ridiculous. Nevermind that he has a huge amount of health, or that he's a level above us and our damage dealt and taken is dramatically less/higher, or the seemingly endless waves of yellow barred enemies that spawn with him.... then add in poison, and mines but you also have the gall to throw in lightswitch along with it... it's insane. So let's say fine, that's what it takes to fight him, so be it, but then to top it all off you spend the time getting to him, more time trying again and again till it's to late to continue so you have to call it a night and there is no checkpoint system! So if I want to try again tomorrow I have to start from scratch. It's too much bungie. I love this game and have spent hundreds of hours playing it and this is the first time I can truly say it's just not fun, it's not enjoyable, and it's just not worth it. Either make defeating him more attainable or give us a checkpoint system so I don't have to start from scratch. Please and thank you. PS... as I read these forums daily and am well aware of the quality of "support" these types of posts typically get from the community please check my stats before you say "git gud"... I already got gud... 700 hours, nearly 150 raid completions, I've helped sherpa dozens of teams though raids and nightfall and other aspects of this otherwise great game. So with that being said if you're "git gudder" than me, please offer to help not talk shit. Again, please and thank you :)

  • Clearly you are mistaken. Skolas is not hard at all man. Go on YouTube and watch some strategies. I replied to your forum because welp- skolas is boring. I received all elder ciphers and completed them the second week of House of Wolves. I will say though. Skolas is much more slow going now that the burns are gone. It is however: much easier. Bungie has already nerfed skolas so people like you can defeat him. To add- you have to have good people in your fireteam. You can NOT complete skolas by carrying someone through. It requires great team coordination and some skill. I completed skolas about 9 times ( haven't done skolas since week 3) when I still needed the elder ciphers: all 9 times, without a mic. I only recently got a mic and I will say it makes things easier. Although you do not need one. It just makes things easier.

  • Quick question how is the 2.0 going to help with that Gally nerf along with everything else how do you deal damage then?

  • I like the encouter because of the freedom it gives me. Different to the Raids that you need to fallow the mechanics, Skolas simplicity lets me fight in a variety of ways. I have taken 3 groups of noobs with no experience trough it. It took me 2 hours and only whiped once with one of the groups. Sorry you dont feel the same.

  • I hate to be this guy I mean Skolas took us an hour but It's really not that bad if you have a good load out I'll be the first to admit it's not all about skill, your weapons have to be ascended and maxed to begin to deal enough damage But Skolas just wasn't that bad Use heavy and special ammo on adds Dump primary into his face every chance you get Stay on the move to avoid surprise melee And never drop his health to 50 or 25 while he's on the far left (where the mine spawns) lol we made that mistake once Pace yourself and stay in motion you'll be fine

    • I wouldn't have a problem if it wasn't a level above us. You don't go into trials against 35s.

    • I also do not enjoy having to fight guardians every day for hours. Checkpoints would fix that problem. Skolas agrees checkpoints are needed

    • Although I agree that Skolas needs tweeking, I'm not sure checkpoints are the answer. Sure, I'd like them, but it doesn't take that long to get to Skolas himself. Defeating Skolas is more difficult than all the other rounds combined. I've been in groups where we've spent the better part of a couple hours trying to beat just Skolas. And no, we don't have a bunch of Thorns to cheese him with. The most difficult for us is the poison section. Trying to stay alive while taking on the ads and dismantling mines is... Rough.

    • I agree! It's one of the reasons that I just don't play very much anymore. Is it challenging? Yes. Is it doable? Yes. Is it fun? Not in the least! Does it need checkpoints? No, but I'll tell you this, I would play it more often if there were. I too, am an adult that cannot always put in the time if you enter with a team from the forum that just doesn't get the teamwork aspect. So now what? Just keep banging your head against a wall? No, you're stuck with them. Guess I'll just step out and start over. Sounds like fun, right? Pffff!!! Not to mention, the rewards suck too! Thanks for the heavy machine gun with shank burn, what a joke! "Hey, there's some shanks, let me get my heavy machine gun!" -No one ever Anyone that answers with "get gud" is just a cancer in this community.

    • You must be really bad if you are a lvl 34 and are actually challenged by this boss. They made it a complete joke without the burns and your complaining still? It doesn't need nerfing, you need an upgrade in skill level...go practice! Ill give you a hint, kill the adds at each interval they spawn and then attack him until the first mines hit, then worry about those while putting adds on the back burner for a second.

        • Its not that bad it requires great team work, not a team of try hard rambo players but good team work and communication. Also the ads come in predetermined waves first wave just after spawn then after severtor bonds are broken then just before mines then with mines. Dont rush Skolas health just hit him till you see ads spawning and take care of all the ads before moving back to him. You got this guardian

            • Can't really say him, and his adds, being a level above you is a big deal. The same concept was implemented in VoG and CE. During the Gatekeeper you fought against level 31s and during the bridge encounter with the Swordbearer you fought against level 33 Hive monsters. If anything you have much better cover in Skolas' Revenge, but the modifiers make it slightly more challenging.

            • What I don't get about Skolas is that I took him down on my own as a level 32 without an acended weapon, and it was so easy. Then I fight him in the prison and he is better equiped with more health. Is the queen trying to kill me?

              • I agree, I did it once with the worst modifiers possible (lightswitch and the one that increases primary damage but decreases special and heavy damage) and it took 2 1/2 hours just for him. I was lucky enough to join someone who was already at him. We wiped at least 6-8 times. I'm not very good at the game so that's another reason why it took a while. I feel your pain dude, just keep trying and try to join someone who is already at him. You'll get it.

              • Agreed - it's pretty stressfull and the rewards don't make it worthwhile. It's a LOT harder than the 34s but all you get extra is an armour core (pointless), a bit more XP, an average looking ship, an OK shader, and the chance of a weapon with elemental damage. After completing it a couple of times I just didn't feel compelled to go back - as I had all the exotic bounties and no guarantee I would get a good weapon. Personally I think a few simple changes would make it more compelling: Better reward - 2 or 3 etheric light, unique weapons (something you can't get on the 34 - not just a low chance of a Prison weapon with elemental), a set of Prison armour which looks different to the standard and easily obtainable normal set. As a titan man, I feel very strongly about this!

                • To be fair... I never attempted Skolas until the other week since they announced the triumphs I was not bothered but we beat whole poe 35 in around 1 hr n a half n Skolas fight gave us least trouble, did it first go with no wipe and one of my fire-team members was a returning player just recently reached 34. Its about add control for Most part since the change, thats how we did it. Kill all adds then focus on Skolas so your free to do mines n dps him with little worry he's slow n got a poor aim, we tried to time the mine spawn and essence so our hunter was not infected and last passed it at the correct time as i think its half health n 25 % health mines spawn and have a warlock keep essence n self res for a small time bonus if your in trouble. Use the map advantage of the long run behind cover n tunnels and switch between each elevated platform using the long route as opposed to cutting across if ads spawn. Also wait to its a good week like juggler and catapult or whatever instead of this weeks light-switch and small arms. Good arc shotgun like found verdict for captains n a scout like VoC will allow you to Manage adds up close and skolas and from a distance n a good launcher (ghorn would be first choice) but one with a good blast radius n grenades n horseshoes will also work (truth if you have it) And above all else communication! Keep at it guardian

                  • agree. i like challenges but the skolas fight just seemed like a way for bungie to stack all the gimmicky mechanics to hurt the player as much as possible. i joined a friends game at the skolas fight, we did 3 attempts and got him to about 5-10% health before dying each time and i just gave up, i didn't enjoy it. maybe if they decide to add checkpoints in i'll come back to it, but in its current state the skolas fight can go -blam!- itself.

I agree! It's not fun whatsoever. The disease is ridiculous and tedious and should only have to pass through each guardian 1 time! Not continuously. Light switch as a burn is fine, but the burns on any given level should be for the "players benefit only, not the ads! The ads don't need any burns or modifiers. Giving a modifier but then giving it to the ads too is the same thing as having "nothing" because they cancel themselves out then, and it would seem the ads are the only ones reaping the bennifits. If you want to put a burn then great, but the burn needs to be for players only-very poor design luke smith! Go back to drawing board!!

                  • Best thing for this weeks modifiers is, thorn number one arc shot gun number two and whatever heavy I use the fear arc damage. So the first thing you need to do is take out all of the adds with out damaging skolas every time you damage him more adds will spawn that's all you need to know everything else you will pick up on as you play, it is a cake walk if you do it how I just told you believe me my first attempt at skolas was pathetic but my second was about an hour and a half. I know this will help and enjoy.
