I think the best solution is to take ascension out and actually add content like multiple top tier sets of Armor.. Maybe if you beat the raid with dead orbit cloak you have a chance to drop raid/ dead orbit mix of gear or something like that.. Just anything that offers multiple armor set.. Or maybe the raid drops something that lets you only upgrade new armor
