First off, gotta give credit to Agrogiant for coming up with an amazing theory on VoG.

None of us know the truth to the Vault, but he is undoubtedly among the few that are closest. It's actually his VoG theory that lead me to mine.
------------------------------------------------
Is Kabr dead? Does it say anywhere that Kabr is truly dead?
He fought the Vex alone. This destroyed him. In the time before he vanished he said some things that I think should be remembered...
-Panahin
Rather than spending time introducing my idea, I'm just going to state my theory right off the bat: I believe that Atheon is Kabr. Kabr became Atheon.
Firstly, I've speculated that the Vex possess the ability to exist as individual connections, rather than a collective.
Here's an excerpt from the Grimoire on Atheon:
We might guess that the Vex confluxes represent the extension of this network across space and time. Perhaps the Vex use closed timelike curves to solve unfathomable computations. Or the Vex may seek to transcend a physical substrate, and move their thoughts directly into the fundament of the universe.
The section in bold is everything we need. It refers to said ability of the Vex to exist as individual connections (or thoughts). In other words, Telepathy. This is the ability of theirs to exist in a form that cannot be touched or held, but that can be processed (just like a computer). Almost like a soul, or a spirit.
"In the Vault time frays and a needle moves through it. The needle is the will of Atheon. I do not know the name of the shape that comes after the needle.
Said by Kabr, our hero of the tragedy does not know the name of "the shape that comes after the needle" (the shape of Atheon) because it doesn't have one.
Why does this matter?
This means that a Vex individual, a Vex mind, can infiltrate and assume the form of nearly anything. Like a virus entering a host.
Therefore, the Axis Minds does not refer to where Space and Time (X and Y axis) meet. Instead, they refer to the point at which Space and Soul meet (the point at which a freely-moving Vex mind/soul inhabits a physical body).
What does all this mean, though? As you might've guessed, this is how I think that Kabr became Atheon. It's no secret that Kabr went insane, as referenced by Panahin.
But it wasn't insanity that infiltrated Kabr's mind, it was Atheon.

I have destroyed myself to do this. They have taken my Ghost. They are in my blood and brain. But now there is hope.
-Kabr (excerpt from Grimoire on the Aegis)
"They" in the above quote describes the Vex collective, or in this case, Atheon.
Atheon infiltrated Kabr in the form of a thought, soul, or whatever you want to call it, and took control of his mind. From that point on, they might've done all sorts of things to transform his body into a walking machine.
There was no one with me but I was not alone.
-Kabr
There's not much to say on this part. This is a quote most likely remembered by Panahin in the process of Kabr's conversion into Atheon (at the point when he was apparently losing his mind; when Atheon was taking control). Kabr is saying that no one was with him (no one from his fireteam), but he is not alone (he lived in as Atheon alongside the other Vex minds in the Vault).

Now it is done. If I speak again, I am not Kabr.
Although these are the last words of our beloved Kabr, they are merely some of the first words of Atheon...

1 RespuestaI thought Kabr became the Aegis Shield as his last act to allow future guardians to exist and defeat the Templar?

I have thought this as well, I just did not have all of the grimoir. Thank you for filling in the gaps!

1 Respuestaexcellent theory! your reasoning is sound and the quoted grimoire passages make for a solid point of reference. perhaps the cabal even tracked down and enslaved the psions specifically to help combat the vex menace in this case?

3 RespuestasHas anyone realised that in VoG, Kabr was meant to be a Titan who went insane. Toland (also a Titan) went mad when his fireteam tried to kill Crota Almost as if the same story was used twice...
jk
Nice, thanks for sharing

There's a few holes, but it sounds good.

Other posters have said this, but good job anyways. I understand the references in the Grimoire now ;)

Shit. Sounds good to me man

Atheon is likely to be related to the word atheist - non believer. Which backs your idea.
