This may have been thought of before, but what if the entire storyline for this game wasn't a reality but a Vex simulation instead. We know that the vex can create simulations of people and use them as torture from the grimoir vex memory fragments. It wouldn't be too far fetched to say that we are part of one of these simulations.
Some events such as the ghosts ability to revive your guardian, keeping it alive, could just be part of the torture. Also the Traveler making no recovery and the Vex still maintaining their power after defeating the black garden show that this game possibly could be an endless simulation meant to torture the (possibly extinct) humans.
If anybody has any other evidence or arguments on this theory please post in the comments below.
Edit 1: Another event supporting this theory is that you die when you leave parts of the map, this could be caused by the vex controlling the simulation to stop you from leavingthe boundries of their simulated world.
Thanks everyone for voicing their ideas and making this my most successful post on these forums.
We're trending guys!!!Woooo!
Disclaimer: I am not stating this as fact but merely a possibility for the directionof the destiny story.

So this is my theory of what will happen:
This is a theory! 1. Destiny 1- set up 2. Destiny 2- just a bunch of fighting (not the same enemies) 3. Destiny 3- we work with Crow( Queen's brother's real name) and help the queen. We also do something bad 4. Destiny 4- the city is mad at us and Crow for doing said bad thing but Crow is under the Queen's protection so you're banished 5. Destiny 5- you are lost and don't know what to do. Eventually the darkness gets to you without your ghost's protection. The darkness's whispers tell you the truth. The traveller is actually a parasite that feeds off of entire species. It tried to leave but Rasputin shot it to cripple it and keep it on Earth (if you notice the damage on the traveller is on the bottom like something on Earth shot it). You begin your fight against the traveller while the city is trying to cover up your story and make it seem like nothing ever happened(story missions) Possible Destiny 5 bosses: Vanguard trio like the dust palace strike Hannah Holliday (I'm sorry) she's in charge of defense systems so... Speaker/traveller
4 RespuestasAnother thing is the black garden. If this was a simulation it would make sense that the vex would put what seemed to be the Guardian's target in the centre of Mars, instead of in a different system entirely. If they can get to our system, and nearly wipe us out while we have the traveler protecting us, then they must have been able to take over other systems. Then things like the vault of glass and the black garden would have been there. Since they aren't, it makes me wonder if the Vex are testing us to see how we respond to seeing an advanced robotic race, which many people (including me) believe are an advanced version of of humans, worship a god. This would be something I personally would wish to see if I had the power they had.

7 RespuestasThe Vex = Bungie. The Heart of The Black Garden = Activision. The simulation = Destiny. The torture = Repetitively grinding the same missions over and over. Ghosts ability to revive your guardian, keeping it alive = The Tuesday reset. Traveler making no recovery = Bungie's reputation as a developer. The storyline isn't a simulation, this game is a simulation, on us :D

Thats why the story line is so dry
i heard this theory before but the black garden thing is new and it really got me thinking
2 RespuestasThe motto of this game is "Become Legend." Only you can't. You end up being a cut and paste guardian compared to everyone else. You use the same armor, the same weapons etc. So, the only way to "Become Legend" is to tell your own. The game is known as Bungie's legend, and could be seen as being surmised of multiple accounts. Only we can tell our side of the story. A bit off topic, but let's face it; the game's story is too vague to be well told. I also ted to enjoy fan fics more anyway. It may not be canon, but it tells the story in a new light.

3 Respuestasthere is no story because there are 3 separate attempts at a story that wernt properly woven together (the fallen vex and cabal). each race has their own stories that themselves couldve made good games but bungie tired to go too big and in the end made a mess of all the stories. its clear separate teams were working on each race/planet if you just read the grimoire. it wouldve been dope had they you know came together and formed everything into one voice and story. but they didnt.

should have taken that f'ing blue pill

6 RespuestasSo kind of like that one metal gear solid game kinda where its a training simulation all along. (Its kinda similar)

6 RespuestasAlso: in the grimoire is explains how the vex create simulations. In the grimoire the exo stranger also says how she's been on the same battle, same place, etc. The opening scene shows the terrain of Mars changing as the three spacemen traverse the terrain. Could these be hints to the different simulations taking place? Maybe the exo stranger is aware she is apart of the simulation? Find our next time on dragon ball z!

6 RespuestasI refuse to believe that Amanda Holliday is a simulation. I say good day, sir!

1 RespuestaDestiny will never have a direction or story because then we couldn't continue making our own stories anymore. And our creative minds would wither away.
