The problem with non-regulated trading is that it will attract real-currency trading. I imagine a Gjallar to be worth several hundreds of dollars. And most people would trade their Gjallar for that amount of money ( including me). Seen it on FIFA UT. People have paid 500-600 dollars for Ronaldo/ Messi inform.
This leaves regulated trading. The problem with that is that not every Exotic has equal worth right now. NLB is worth shit whereas Gjallar is worth tons. How do you introduce regulated trading. How do you estimate the real worth of an Exotic if you rule out non-regulated trading? My conclusion: leave out trading altogether.

I have created a follow-up post to this one, attempting to solve the issues that commentors on this post have described, and create a player trading system custom-tailored for Destiny. Value would not be dictated by rarity. Hopefully, a community vote would take place ranking each item.

There will always be a black market and players will happily make use of it. There's tons of negative examples out there. Bungie did the right thing in dismissing trading altogether.
