The Worst Idea Ever

It is no news now that raids will require 5 friends in order to access, play and complete. The keyword being "friends." Bungie has decided that raids unlike, The Crucible, will not use matchmaking. Players who do not have 5 friends unanimously on their console at the same time will not be able to initiate a raid. And who is too say that these friends of yours will even want to do a raid or even have the time to complete these ostensibly VERY long raids? Bungie says this is part of the experience and perhaps what seems less evidently the fun. However, spending hours upon hours to assemble a team of 5 strangers to do a raid (that you may not complete) is not fun - at all. Who is to say that one of these strangers will not be able to re-try the raid after your failure? Then it is back to the start: Logging onto the Bungie website to find another person to complete a raid. Meanwhile, more of your impatient teammates leave to join other raiding parties and then it is just yourself again in search of 5 more strangers. This idea is the result of the asinine assumption that people will not talk to strangers. But couldn't we solve that issue ourselves? In CoD Zombies people leave lobbies that are full of people without mics and stay when they find people with mics. And it always works out okay. And if you really don't want to be with people, why not just play solo? Why is there no option to play solo? To spend $60 on a game where there a parts that will not be accessible at any given time is ridiculous. Titanfall is an egregious example of this. The game comes with a $60 price tag but does not guarantee the full life span of non-PvP games. I know someone at Bungie looked at this and said it was a bad idea. Imagine all other PvP sections in games if they didn't have matchmaking: They'd be slower paced and dead half the time. CoD, Battlefield, and GTA wouldn't be on their level of popularity if finding a match had more requirements than just owning the game. Bungie stated that this decision was made with difficulty in mind. That is no good excuse. Some of my best CoD Zombie and Extinction scores were with random people matched with me. Why is the difficulty setting the game's rules? Shouldn't the games rules set the difficulty?

  • Have you ever raided before? This is a light request compared to other games...which require 20+ players before you can start. Even so, at least they gave us plenty of advance notice to prepare for this. There are plenty of groups that are dedicated to raids. Besides, this is a very social game. I don't see the big deal.
