(Poll included to show that nerf is in vast minority).
Okay, so we know that there have been a few people in this community complaining about snipers for a while now, about the aim assist, about the ammo, about the scope sway. I am here to refute all of those arguments.
First, aim assist; people have been complaining about this since The Taken King shotgun nerf. First, let me show you some of the aim assist stats of popular snipers in year one:
Prudence II (Original): (Mid-High 70s-Original Stat wiped from database).
Prudence II (HoW): 53
Shadow of Veils: 69
Y-09 Longbow Synthesis: 53
LDR 5001: 48
Eye of Sol: 61
Praedyths Revenge: 20 (Although not seen often due to low impact).
Now, let's compare these to the most commonly complained about sniper in The Taken King:
1000 Yard Stare: 56
Now comparing these aim assist stats, what do you see? I see that the 1000 Yard Stare is a middle of the pack sniper in terms of Aim Assist, and it only surpasses it by 1 Aim Assist if it has Shortgaze and Shadow of Veils has no scope at all (However I have heard rumors that Shortgaze no longer adds aim assist). Although, this is barely even a matter at all in the first place due to the fact that aim assist simply doesn't do the work for you.
CopicX FireA Gun does a very good job of explaining this on another post so I will just leave what he says here:
I will try to explain aim assist from 'my' experiences and research. Remember this is only my experience and it is not 100% correct. However I do believe it is very accurate.
First of all let's get two things straight.
1. There are different types of Aim Assist.
2. Range=Aim Assist=Bullet Magnetism=Accuracy
The higher these stats, the better the weapon is.
Why was Thorn OP? Why was Hawkmoon so easy to get Headshots before the patch? Because of Send it/Hammer Forged. (Increases RANGE and ACCURACY) Basically it increased Range which made headshotting from a distance possible AND easier, it also increased Accuracy (Bullet Magnetism/Aim assist).
Weapons have something called Bullet Magnetism. Which is most noticable on primaries. What this is is basically how 'forgiving' the game is when you miss the head by a little bit. This is why Thorn was a headshot Machine!
The Hand Canon blanket nerf that everyone thinks is overkill for example. What Bungie did was reduce the accuracy of Hand Canons OVERALL.... Have you noticed point blank shots completely missing? Or shots that would've hit before not hitting at all, or bodyshots registering as headshots?! This is what is happening, hand canons now have reduced accuracy and the 'bullet magnetism' is less forgiving. Rapidly firing a Hand Canon further reduces accuracy. Making them only ideal in very close range situations.
Now to Snipers. To me snipers have very little Magnetism but have significantly higher 'Crosshair Slowdown'. This when you hover your reticle over an enemy and it 'sticks' onto them. Primaries have this too, but at a much weaker extent. Hidden Hand FURTHER increases this 'stick' by an unknown amount. The better the range of a sniper, the better this 'stick' will be from range.
Do you notice how sometimes your aim is pulled by another player jumping across another? To explain this, you need to understand the concept of HOW your crosshair slowdown pulls it. There is an area of an enemy I like to call 'hit detection area' (my own weird personal language). Basically when you hover over an enemy, your crosshair will slow down. Try it on the Spider Tank/Goliath Tank for maximum effect. If you shoot anywhere in this area, the target will be damaged. The game purposely slows down your aim in this area. Now go to patrol and scope in on head level. Do not move your scope and do not shoot, just ADS perfectly still. Wait for a Dreg to strafe past your center and you will see the 'stick' happen. If your sniper has High Aim Assist, it will stick so hard onto that Dreg that your screen will move slightly as your crosshair passes his 'hit detection area' even though you are standing perfectly still.
Now imagine in crucible, you are aimed at someone. You hover over an enemy head and it sticks, it's perfect, he's not moving, he doesn't notice you, poor bastard is AFK. You are about to make the shot, however an enemy player jumps over him, making the hit detection area OVERLAP with your target, one is standing still, however one is moving quickly just like that Dreg was on Patrol. And the mobile targer 'pulls' your crosshair. IMPORTANT: People are confusing this for Auto aim. It is NOT auto aim. It feels like Auto aim, but it's not.
This is the exact reason why 1000-Yard stare feels so smooth. (Note how I don't say easy)
Base Aim assist of 56+15 from Shortgaze makes it's natural aim assist very high. Combined with Rifled Barrel which increases Range, your Crosshair is guaranteed to 'stick' onto enemies very well. This doesn't make it a headshot machine, or some magical noob sniper. It simply makes guiding your reticle over the enemy heads 'stickier'. Snipers like kjhovey and realkrafty take full advantage of this and sweep scope.
Hope this cleared things up.
So, in summary he explains that snipers with a higher range/aim assist stay will simply stick to the head more easily, however they will not drag bullets at all, or at least very minimally, on snipers.
Now the scope sway argument, in other games such as Call of Duty and Battlefield (which Is a whole other beast so it will not be taken in much weight in this argument) there is scope sway on the sniper rifles, however have you noticed that they do not need to hit headshots? This means that although there is scope sway, they have a much easier time killing opponents, tell me, how many times have you seen a 7 on screen with a sniper rifle on a 6 man team in destiny? None? I didn't think so, this is because snipers in that game have aim assist as well, and although have scope sway they one shot pretty much above the chest.
I appreciate any other arguments you guys want to make, and I will happily debate with you.

1 RespuestaYou didn't need to write a novel but they shouldn't be nerfed.....not at all.....but the other weak primaries need to brought back up via buff. Hand Cannons and Autos along with Sidearms. Currently the only to counter a sniper is shotgun at point blank but some weapons are supposed to be designed to be a counter like small arms Hand Cannons/Sidearms/Autos slightly more. I think snipers do their job just fine but bring back other weapons to counter. Not everyone likes playing with Pulse Rifles.

1 RespuestaThe only thing that needs to be fixed is litc. Its not cheating, but its definitely cheap. I find aa can sometimes hamper the efficiency of a sniper. In most cases when your sniped (unless your a really good sniper) the person is either running in a straight line or is sitting still. Its extremely easy to snipe someone going head on, or predicting where they would be if they ran in a straight line

1 RespuestaThe fact that we argue about degrees of aim assist defeats the point. Why even have aim assist at all? It's one of three weapons in the game (snipers, hand cannons and scout rifles) that are supposed o be marksman's tools. Being good with them should prove that you can place your shots. So why give any aim assist at all? It just seems pointless. An attempt to give bad players a chance with a weapon type that shouldn't give it.

3 RespuestasI wouldn't be opposed to a decrease in aim assist if that's really the issue, I olnly say that because I hit some stupid no scopes or mid air snipes.

4 RespuestasEditado por CptRJ: 11/23/2015 10:49:41 PMSmh complaining about snipers, complain about shotguns, rather than complaining about something that requires skill. And I hope you guys know without aim assist literally no one will be able to land a single shot, You people clearly have no clue. Lmfao this is just ludicrous. Complaining about Snipers? Really? Grow up guys.

3 RespuestasEditado por Optimus96: 11/23/2015 9:49:22 AMHere's why snipers should not going to be nerfed: They have been the same since day one!!! Correct me if I'm wrong, but Bungie has not touch snipers since launch. The thing people are raging about is videos on bullet magnetism/aim assist. Which, tbh, you would not hit shit without it. Also, these videos have also been out since mid Year 1(?) and people are just now getting being butt hurt about Destiny's aim assist. It's -blam!-ing stupid...
-
Should not be nerfed. Should have sway included when ADS and lots of sight bouncing when walking while ADS. Let's bring skill back to sniping
-
3 RespuestasI don't really care about aim assist. My problem is when you can't move because someone is hard scoping every hallway. It gets old
-
1 Respuestawhy are people talking about nerfing snipers? bungie isnt going to change anything except falloff damage.
-
1 RespuestaYhe only thing I think snipers need is an aim assist drop. Make it more skillful than what it is now. I definitely notice a difference from using my stillpiercer, to hearafter, and 1000 yard stare. Yasmin is sticky as -blam!-, same with hearafter, and shortgaze 1000 yrd, is similar with more range. Stillpiercer not so much. So just lower the aim assist in those high aim assist snipers and the scopes that have that aim assist. That would be fine.

1 RespuestaSnipers shouldn't be nerfed and shotguns shouldn't be nerfed again really but the crybabies get their way
-
1 RespuestaSnipers want shotguns nerfed and people that use shotguns want the snipers nerfed. If everyone could just stfu about weapon balancing there would be no need for nerfs.

29 RespuestasEditado por Strider: 11/22/2015 5:51:16 PMWhy do people keep referring to 'what aim assist actually does on snipers?' Yes, it doesn't magically pull the bullets to an opponents head, but it does slow down the reticle on an opponents head for way too long. Couple this with Destiny's built in sticky aim assist on all weapons that follows targets and that's where you have a problem. You just have to drag scope and pull the trigger and you will get a headshot. The leeway that you have is far too much.

Editado por Erijian: 11/23/2015 2:58:14 PMEveryone has been so focused on Fusion Rifles and Shotguns getting nerfed that we never noticed how frustrating Sniper Rifles can be to play against in their current state.

6 RespuestasIn my opinion, Bungie should stop with the nerfs. They should only do buffs now. And maps that does not benefit shotgunners.
-
1 RespuestaTo be honest, i don't care if aim assist was removed (or nerfed to oblivion) i miss more bullets because of aim assist (enemy running past while i am scoping on someone etc.)
-
1 RespuestaI just want them to be nerfed because i suck with them. xD
-
1 RespuestaYou can't even say "sniper rifle". Can't take you seriously if you say it like an 8 year old. Enjoy your nerf.
-
2 RespuestasThey could limit how much ammo you can pickup with a sniper equipped. But don't mess with the actual sniper mechanics. I don't like snipers and I don't use them. But I'll defend their mechanics...

Editado por DILPICKLE714: 11/23/2015 2:44:19 PMLet's be honest here, the ones that want them nerfed are the ones that cannot snipe

Keep snipers the same and lower the AA. Easy fix without nerfing it's base stats.

Editado por F22man: 11/23/2015 11:15:19 AMThis sounds like whining, but please bear with me. I hate getting 1 hit by anything that isn't an ability. Its infuriating, shotguns, snipers, very few fusion rifles, etc. Its like going great in your car, having fun, then BAM another car intersects you, your fun instantly ended and you had little to no control over it. The aim assist on snipers is fine, but seeing as to how they have a high fire rate anyway (most all do), they should only 1-hit in the head, if you are close to your target 0-4m (0-18 feet) or so, in my opinion. Shotguns should only be a one hit in very close quarters, which they mostly are now, and will most likely be more balanced in the next patch (coughThecoughChaperonecough). Fusion rifles are actually pretty balanced, besides a few. But heavy weapons are fine, they're heavy, they should kill very effectively, same with supers. They only last for a short time (except with some skill and an LMG).
tl; dr.. Snipers need a balance not a nerf. Only be 1 hit up close. Shotguns are starting to become balanced, and fusion rifles are pretty much perfect, except for a few.
