I'm moving in a few weeks, and I'm thinking about upgrading my Internet. I currently have Verizon DSL which isn't very fast. Does someone with faster internet have an advantage over someone with slower internet in PVP? I'm actually asking this about any game in general, not just Destiny. I've tried doing some research and I keep finding conflicting information, so I'm hoping someone can finally resolve this.
Also, I currently use a wireless router which is about 10 years old. Should I upgrade this as well? Or if I get new internet, should I just connect the modem straight to my console?

Edited by Klavmanian: 9/22/2014 4:45:37 PMIf you are the only one streaming content: Download over 4 or so mbps will not improve gameplay. Upload over 1.5 to 2 mbps will not improve gameplay. Having lower pings will almost always improve gameplay. To do this start by having a wired connection. Wireless is generally crap. Unless you can otherwise explain why it isn't (i.e. have an actual technical understanding of your setup), you shouldn't use it to game. Also city wireless, phone tethering, and satellite connections, should all be avoided entirely. If you are not the only one on your network it will depend on the collective bandwidth needs and the existence if an intelligently configured and implemented QoS (quality of service) system. Last but not least. Your TV should be in game mode. Image Interpolation on the "high refresh/high hz" (i.e. anything over 60hz) TV's will add an incredibly high and unnecessary amount if input lag that will make playing games horrible. Edit: Upgrade your router for sure. An upgraded router will work with your console to automatically negotiate NAT settings (Universal Plug and Play).

19 ping, 65 mbps down, 25 mbps up. still see other people lag. bungie never uses dedicated servers. theres always some type of connection host with their games. best thing to do is get a direct connection to your router (wired), open your NAT (can be a process with the xbox one), and get cable internet. your ping is pointless seeing as we dont know where destiny's servers are located. just aim for a higher upload and ensure youre not killing your bandwidth with multiple connections to your internet.

that and an open NAT.

Download and upload speeds will not affect your game as much as your pings will. Your wireless router is probably your main issue. I suggest going wired over wireless. Also make sure your TV is in game mode. These two solutions will counter any latency issues you my be having.

Fast Internet is part of it I guess but you want a good ping (means how fast the data packets are moving back and forth sort of lol) also even if you have wireless capabilities do wired my router is 7 inches from my ps4 and I still have it wired security of not losing packets and random disconnects hope my very brief and not super information sort of helped haha

I'll answer this for you, no. My friend has 50mbps and still has the same shit happening to him

What speed do you currently have?
