Like I said, it worked perfectly fine before. I don't think that I'm going to give up on a good game that works just quite yet. Besides, I do play other great games, but I'd just like to play one that I know is good and for which I payed good money. =)
-
No, chances are the problem lies with the software itself. Just toss it some where and play something worth-while/that someone put effort into.
-
Of course I have the same problem as everyone else here, otherwise I wouldn't be posting. I have tried every fix suggested here and nothing has worked. I used to play this game fine about two months ago, until my computer had a problem (smoke was involved). Now that it's fixed and back up and running, I decided to try the 64-bit Vista version rather than the 32-bit version that I had previously been playing on. Is it possible that that is the source of my problem? I don't see why or how this would cause the problem, but then again, you never know. The message itself is puzzling to me. "Live Gaming on Windows failed to initiate." Is it just me, or does this sound like a problem originating on Microsoft's end, rather than mine? I don't know, but any further help with this problem would be greatly appreciated. P.S. I did get new hardware for my computer after it was "busted", but it is only better hardware. So how could that cause any problems, right?

Help! I have a new computer, windows Vista, all the good stuff. The one thing I don't have is internet access. I have provided all of the DLL files that the error messages have asked for. I have rebooted, restarted the computer, reinstalled the game, renamed catroot2 to catroot22, turned on cryptographic services, and have been looking everywhere for another possible fix. Im still getting the same fricking message - "Live failed to initialize" !!
-
Well DUH!!!!!! Like he said, it's called "Halo 2 for Windows Vista" for a reason. It even says that on the box.
Posted by: xsouldeath Tried ur solution Mondo_ .. did NOT work. Windows jsut recreates the folders.unless uj mean delete all of catroot 2 then install the install files that came with halo 2.. still this error in XP --------------------------- Halo 2 --------------------------- LIVE Gaming on Windows failed to initialize. This may be because another LIVE Gaming on Windows application (such as the Halo 2 dedicated server) is running on the same machine. Otherwise, reinstalling the game may fix this problem. --------------------------- OK ---------------------------
Wow.... thats why. You're running it on XP, LIVE doesn't support XP. Theres a reason it's called Halo 2 Vista. You to buy Vista in order to play on LIVE. [Edited on 12.03.2007 8:41 AM PST]
Posted by: Aarone the 14th I FOUND THE FIX!! After talking with Microsoft for like a total of 5 hours We tried going to the Halo 2 main folder (my computer> Hard drive> Programs > Microsoft games> Halo2 and Made The halo 2 application file run as administrator ALLWAYS (see my other post on exactly step by step on how 2 do that). Now it works great. Anyhow the error is a really stupid administrative rights problem that has occurred with other programs (like skype) on Vista. Hope this helps! :)
WOAH!!! IT WORKS!!! THANKS!!! I am sick of installing the map editor every time I reboot my computer! YAY!!!
Posted by: Pathigen I need more info's: Are you running it on Vista or did you patch it for XP?
I'm running it on vista. And I found out that every time you close the Halo 2 Map editor and bring it up again, it won't work. YOu have to reinstall it every time you close the map editor or restart your computer. It's a pain, but it works, at least.

marioko did you read my post? Any how to get to the menu (and sometimes into the game) Install the Halo 2 Map Editor. Next right click the halo map editor and click properties. This should open up a new window. Inside the window on the top you should see 5 or so tabs that say "General" "Shortcut" "Compatibility", and other stuff. Click on the compatibility tab. There you should find some options to run it compatibility modes for earlier versions of Windows. Ignore them and go to the Privilege Level on the bottom of the window. There you should have a option to run the program as an administrator. You want this box checked. Next Click apply and close the window. Now open Halo 2 Map Editor and in the top right part of the window you have the option to run Halo 2. At least now you can get into the main menu. Thats as far as i can go at the moment. I have the same problem as all you guys, ok first of all the map editor thing WILL WORK IF you go to properties and tell it to run as admin every time. As for the game crashing i called Microsoft and told them about the original error (not the map editor one) and they tried some stuff but nothing worked. HOWEVER we did rename some stuff using command prompt and things like that and when i later tried the map editor way for the heck of it after doing a bunch of crap it worked. I played for over 4 hours but later windows crashed from an unrelated reason and apparently the changes that were made did not save so i once more can't run it XD
-
Now I m able to get into the game menu, but everytime I click play it shows the loading screen for a couple of seconds and then crashes to the desktop.I ve tried almost every thing to get it to work but in vain.
-
Well not to get as technical about things as urself but lets just say my computer has more than the recommended requirements for the game! Anyway thats beside the point. I should at least be able to start the game!!
Posted by: Leman007a Just tried the Map Editor idea, no good! My computer is about a month old, top o d range... :(
Than that means it is not top of the line, only close at most.
