• Well here is my advice, take a seat it's a long one The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB), wow what a coincidence. To tell the hard truth, this test is designed to detect the mentally challenged and illiterates. Even if you score below 50 but say above 35, you can still qualify for some basic jobs like the infantry. But trust me when I say this: the ASVAB will be a deciding factor for your entire Military Career. Especially if want to have a highly qualified job that will help you down the road, long after you're done with your service If you honestly know your not a good test taker than maybe you should be concerned. Definitely buy a study guide if that's the case. ASVAB Study Guides (most any) will have detailed sections with overviews and practice tests that will help you in your weakest areas no matter how limited your basic knowledge in said areas will be. Also as a side note, some say taking the written ASVAB is a lot easier than the computer version one, so just keep that in mind. Though the way one takes either is unclear to me, I just took the computer one. At the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) BTW, the scores 1-99% are not how many you get right, but the percentage of people who scored lower than you. It's called the AFQT I think. I scored a 93, I didn't have to study, but I did some. I did a quick overview of automotive and shop stuff. If you score any where in the 90's you can pick any and every job that's AVAILABLE in the respective branch of service you're going for. Which means you're a pretty valuable asset to them, especially your recruiter. I didn't have sufficient eye sight so I didn't qualify for every job. But I'm happy with the one I picked. If by ANY CHANCE you have any questions, just send me a private message. A referral would be nice also. :) I'm just about to go to the Great Lakes (Navy Boot Camp) in a couple of months and I understand most of the military enlistment process, including the ASVAB, MEPS, physicals, waivers, and the delayed entry program (DEP). Good luck and thank you for considering enlistment in the US Armed Services. [Edited on 08.20.2012 2:06 PM PDT]

 • Nope. The ASVAB is scored on a bell curve, so getting 50 is exactly average. So scoring at least a 50 on it shouldn't be that hard, especially if you're studying up on what's on it beforehand. Good luck on it, by the way.

I did not study at all and just took it for fun and got a 94.
I scored exactly the same, and didn't study at all. I think I took it in the fall of my sophomore year. Most of it really is just common sense. You should have no trouble scoring a 70+ if you are of at least average intelligence and understand basic algebra/geometry.
What they said.

 • Nope. Not that hard really. If your good at mechanics, you're going to do excellent on it though. A majority of your score is based on that. EDIT: Keep in mind, the higher you score, the more recruiters are going to call you. I was the third highest score in my grade when we took it, and I got calls every night from at least one branch.
