How old Cortana Really is... how this will effect Halo 4!
I often wondered that after seeing Halo 4 on TV at E3. 343 believes Cortana is 8 years old at the beginning of halo 4. In a way they are right, in the timeline of the video games she "could be" 7 or 8 by the time of Halo 4, but in reality Cortana is at least 10 years old by the end of the Human/Covenant war in 2553. She is most likely 11 by that time. Below is some information that could hurt and be useful to many things halo including Halo 4.
In the novel Halo: The Fall of Reach, chapter 24 to be specific, Cortana is first introduced talking with Dr. Halsey after deactivating another A.I. present in the room. The deactivated A.I. was deactivated because of security protocol. When Cortana was introduced The Year was 2542. This would, in fact, make cortana at the very least 10 years old at the end of the war in 2553.
In the E3 trailer for Halo 4 Cortana was 8 years old and that would leave a giant plot-hole in the story of halo. I believe that because of the release of Halo Reach this caused the Writers of Halo 4 to reduce Cortana's real age so that Halo Reach wouldn't seem as much of a knockoff to the Halo series.
I also believe that at least 4 years have passed sense the events of halo 3. If that is true then Cortana would have to be at least 14 years old and there would be a good chance she was already 15.
Below is some information crucial to the story of halo 4 and what this could mean to the halo series.

There are a few spartan 2's undergoing rehabilitation but the rest are unaccounted for or KIA.
Now for the best part, in Halo 4's multiplayer you will be playing spartan 4's as any halo fan should know. I found some interesting information pertaining to the spartan 4's training. The spartan 4's are in fact adult volunteers. Even more interesting is that I read that Linda aka spartan-058 was offered to train the spartan 4's herself. However it is not confirmed that she accepted to train the spartan 4's and that any other spartans (including spartan 3's) were even offered to help train the spartan 4's.
If Linda or any other spartan took the offer we may see them in halo 4. But before i go there is something important about the spartan 4's training that must be addressed and that is they are on the infinity and the likelihood that spartan 2's and 3's will make an appearance in halo 4 is very likely and we should anticipate it. and so you know the whole multiplayer experience is based off of the training of the spartan 4's "on the infinity ship."
I will look into halo and the spartans to find more evidence that could impact halo. Im very eager to find more about what happened to Jun from halo reach because he wasn't mentioned in the Novel ghosts of onyx with Dr. Halsey so far that i know but i plan to look further into his career as a spartan.

'2542' was a misprint, Cortana was created by Halsey flash cloning her brain in 2549 - I say it, everyone else is saying it and, most importantly, 343i is saying it. You're wrong. EDIT: Note that I [i]deplore[/i] having to use the Halo wikis as sources, yet if you have half a brain you can recognise that what they say is reflected directly by what 343i has said. Wrong. Cortana was created in 2549, that is the official canonical date which she was created. That's what it says in Halsey's journal, that's what it says in the novels, that's when 343i have said. Frankie has said that 343i have absolutely no plans to continue Jun's story, and frankly [i]why[/i] anyone would want such a horrid character to return is beyond me. He's in canonical limbo, but for all intents and purposes for the story, he's dead.
