Lone Wolf "Current Objective: Survive" Obtainable?

I've been thinking about this lately. The final objective in the Halo Reach Campaign is listed simply as "survive". Is it possible to do so on Legendary and is this the "clue" we've overlooked to possibly unlock an alternate/Legendary ending? What I mean is not simply surviving for a set amount of time but to actually kill every enemy and thus survive the mission? From what I've read in previous threads it's supposed to be impossible. The enemies continue to spawn until Noble 6 is killed. Some have claimed to have gone as long as thirty-minutes killing enemies only to have new ones appear. This may or may not be true, the longest videos on Youtube I could find were about seven minutes or so in length for players attempting to survive on Legendary. There are several videos of groups of players playing at lower difficulties and surviving up to ten or so minutes. But is it possible that the Lone Wolf mission is set up much like a firefight one, with increasingly difficult sets of enemies but an eventual end to them? It's notable that the elites who spawn are increasingly higher in class and better equiped, much like in firefight mode. It seems impossible, Noble 6 is at a marked disadvantage especially given the helmet cracks from taking damage which knock out a player's HUD and will trigger the ending if additional damage is taken even if Noble 6 still has minimal health left. On the plus side there are a great many starting weapons and a defendable postion for Noble 6 to occupy as well as a few health packs that can buy a player alittle time. I have to wonder if a highly skilled four person team (much like the max team no in firefight) would be capable of surviving through the "waves" if you will of enemies? Perhaps this is the ultimate challenge and test of skill and teamwork that has been elluded to as leading to "something special"? What are the community's thoughts? Is this a possibility at least? Just thinking out loud I guess, sorry for the long read.

 •
Posted by: Pale Horse 6 8 I am pretty sure the people who read the code looked for this already and did not find and end to the waves of enemies. I think at some point it loops back. Not to the beginning, but to some other point in the difficulty escalation.
Well some thread posters have said there is a loop regardless, but I've yet to actually see anyone make it that far, which is not to say that isn't what happens, just that I don't know of any definate evidence. I have heard some rumors that if you survive through the wave of sword elites that come apparently a last elite possibly dressed in arbiter armor (keep in mind it would not be the Arbiter from the other halo games as he does not become the Arbiter until Halo 2) comes out to "finish you off". Again I don't know if that is true or not. Again it seems a next to impossible challenge even if there is an end to the enemies it would no doubt take a supreme effort and alot of luck to defeat all of them on Legendary. I've just been wondering if it is a possiblity.

But maybe you actually have to kill all of the enemies?
Yes I recently read a thread where someone suggested putting boxes into an L shape in a corner and crouching behind them so that the enemy cannot get to you. This does increase survivablity but does not help in taking out the enemies themselves which may be neccessary for the mission to end. Perhaps one possibilty would be to have a team member there in the "safe" location as a last resort when things start going bad to maybe try and pick off additonal enemies with a sniper or something similar? I'm no great stratigest though or player so I don't know what would be best.

 • I usually get on the pipes or in the storage building roof. I last a loooong time and work on headshotting grunts first. Then ill jump down and grab rockets or laser and get back to roof and proceed to kill the elites. only to find out more grunts start coming. I've had sniper rifle a few times zoomed out into the abyss of sandstorm and seen the Covenant spawn.

 • It's a possibility, but it'd be difficult as hell to do.
