Dear community of bungie games.
I am an old destiny player with 500+ hours where I deeply enjoyed the game. Until one day due to privacy concerns and for the sake of my tech sovereignty I have switched to Linux over two years ago. Since the day I switched I was really sad that I cant play with my friends but I accepted it. But after experiencing so many other games I wonder why cant I play Destiny or Marathon?
I am by no means a technical expert in this matter. But my understanding is the current state of Proton does not require any alteration to the game by any means. But it does require such change to block the players. (To clarify I am not talking about bringing official linux support, just not blocking proton users)
I am just one of the many people that really like your games and just want to play without paying with our privacy.
Please consider enabling linux players to enter your games, I just want to play Marathon with my friends ;(
Best regards,
Grom

3 Repliesits not "unblock" the game is made to run on Windows. Portions of the game itself and anticheat are built around it. Adding to this, they cannot just add a platform and offer no support for it. People are going to have issues and will want help. So at minimum, they would need to gimp the Battleye anticheat, recode their anticheat, and then create knowledge base articles for support and uptrain support and security on Linux. All for a market share that does not even hit double digits. Your "privacy" comes at a cost. You build a wall to keep the illusion of privacy, it also keeps you in and limits your options.
