PS4 crashing on character select screen after new update

I bought the expansion pack and as I was playing through the first mission everything was fine but once I went to the tower my game started crashing. At first I was able to reload the game but now once I select my hunter it immediately crashes. I have restarted my ps4, taken my headshot out of my controller, rebuilt the database, updated everything, I’m really pissed right now. I understand I’m on an outdated console but if I need a ps5 to play at least tell me that

  • I’m still having this problem on my ps4 to no avail it crashes when loading up any character

  • Don't bother re-downloading. I just waited 10hrs and it still crashes on every character after selecting. Gonna request refund.

    • Having the same issue; I don't own the expansion but played through the first mission and 3 portal solo ops before the first crash. Now it consistently crashes at the character selection screen. I can interact with my inventory via DIM so account all looks fine Tried all the suggested generic CE-34878-0 fixes, even re-installed it on external storage and still errors at the same point. Also tried updating my loadout via the d2 companion app as suggested below and still errors Interestingly, I tried starting up the game using a different user on the ps4 and it loaded fine, took me straight into the first mission, so definitely suggest a problem on the game side and not a local storage/file issue

    • In my case the new mark for Titan "Last Discipline Mark" crashes my game every time you preview it or if somebody has it equipped (ps4)

    • Ps4 UK.Booted 13 hours ago.Still unable to get back.Crashes before you even select a character to load.Have done every workaround. Please fix the bug soon.Deleting everything and Reinstalling.This has to be a corrupted file or the server.

    • I am on ps4 and it started just like your situation, the difference is that I can't even log in the game, when I press the X button to start the game it only takes a few seconds to crash and receive the app error on the Playstation, it's really hard to keep the cool when things like this happen

        I'm experiencing the same issue. Yesterday, the game was mainly crashing whenever I tried to load into the tower. I would just get Error Code: CE-34878-0 instead. I found a work around, where I could load into the firing range first and then the tower. Now, I can't even get to the character select screen without getting Error Code: CE-34878-0. Cleared the PS4's cache, rebuilt the database and am currently re-downloading all 11 Required Content Add-Ons. Nothing has helped so far. I was planning on fully initializing the PS4 if these re-downloads don't change anything, but I'm not going to bother now, as it seems clear from everyone else posting about this, that this is very much a problem on Bungie's end and not an issue with my console. I've seen on here that there is a fix to do with the Techsec Cloak. Yesterday, two of the many crashes I experienced did happen when I tried to inspect either of the two Techsec Cloaks I had in my Hunter's inventory. I am going to use DIM to move them and see if that helps. Will report back if it works.

        • Same issue, PS 4 - CE-34878-0. Uninstalled, redownloaded does not solve issue. Change loadout did not fix 😢

                • A bunch of us have been complaining about this for hours now. I am also on ps4 but know other experiencing the same issue who are on ps5. We have also tried everything on our end, empty cache, rebuild database, delete/reinstall, changed all the audio settings and hdr, nothing has worked. Sad part is Bungie has responded to any of our posts over the past 4 hrs.

                    • So I saw on here the Techsec Cloak fix.....moved them both to my vault via DIM and no issues so far....what in the randomness is this...smh. Glad it worked, but yikes.

                      • Someone in another thread said it was the new Hunter cloak causing the problem, I unequipped this via DIM and was able to load into the game. Re-equipped it in-game and it immediately crashed So, the Techsec Cloak seems to be the problem, for Hunters anyway. I had the Aion Renewal Cloak equipped previously and the game ran fine

                        • Same. I can load up the game, swlect a character, get into orbit. But crashes randomly, especially if trying to go to the tower
