I am so confused as to why this isn't being discussed more? the cost of playing this game is getting out of hand...annual expansion, season pass, event card, dungeon pass, shader bundles, increase to season pass cost but not quality of content, eververse silver only items & no way to earn the next battle pass? it's clear to me that Bungie are just trying to squeeze whatever they can out of us now for Marathon so they can leave this game in the dirt with their reputation. Do you really think people will buy your new game?
-
You think it's bad now, barebones Marathon likely to cost $60 and come with NOTHING except core gameplay. That game is likely going to have $1.99+ microtransactions for every gun, cosmetic, emote, etc. that'll be in the game. Destiny isn't the financial cow for production, it's the test run for whatever marathon will be.

8 RepliesIt's not even the money that gets me. $100 is dinner for two at Red Lobster. It's the absolute trash system of leasing out recycled content with zero innovation, yet charging as if we were getting something exceptional and new. If this game was actually an open world with an ever changing dynamic and new areas and worlds to explore, that would be a different story, but all we get is the honor of leasing out content that was vaulted, which some of us that have been around since day 1 paid for. I honestly have no idea when the last time a new archetype of weapon was introduced, and there hasn't been a single new type of enemy since the Scorn.

12 RepliesEdited by TheShadow: 5/31/2023 12:31:36 PMIt's not being discussed more often because most of the Bungie fans don't care about quality work and try to shut posts like this down. Let's post the BS they always use to "justify" things being way overpriced that the players are literally getting ripped off vs what other gaming business offer. "You don't have to buy anything" "It's optional" "It's their game" "No one is forcing you to play" "Leave if you don't like it", etc... You know, because all this^ justifies the minimal effort put into the game for the max profit this business makes, and saying all that makes it all okay to add all the BS to milk the players for what they got to fund their other projects. "We/Bungie fans don't care that our money is not being invested into the game we pay for." (You guys not giving a crap is why 343 tried to pull the same thing Bungie has been doing for years with Halo Infinite, but the huge difference is that didn't fly with the Halo fans because the Halo fans actually have the balls to speak up and speak with their wallets.) It's the same crap over and over with the Bungie fans and Bungie as each year goes by with things getting worse every year that goes by. More BS to buy but less is offered as the OP said with the added Paywalls and this business has the nerve to call this game a "F2P game". (You fans are literally 100% the problem with gaming these days.) Especially with a Business as lazy as this one is vs every single other actual AAA gaming business.

1 ReplyThe fact that they got away with Dungeon Keys alone pisses me off. Shattered Throne and Pit were both included with Forsaken and Shadowkeep. Separating the Dungeons from the expansions was dumb. Also, the fact that they -blam!- monetized campaign skips AND transmog. I have to -blam!- pay for my own armor back after they sunset it.

1 ReplyEdited by $Three: 6/1/2023 7:22:59 PMhard agree. my friend just got one of his friends into the game. the cost to access everything if you're just getting into the game is ridiculous. All your friends have all these exotics, are doing dungeon runs, and this new player is like "i have to buy how much stuff just to play the full game?!"
-
It is talked about, just probably not as much as you expect. Before Lightfall came out, alot of people complained about the inflation. I don't recommend this game to friends because of the price to even play it, and how content vaulting will have you lost if you care about the story. If they start, I warn them still about the prices.

https://thedecisionlab.com/biases/the-sunk-cost-fallacy Bungie did it right. Buy the game get the game. Add Eververse, see what players are willing to put up with.(oh, just cosmetics, besides all money goes directly toward events) Keep turning the heat up so the frogs don't realize they're being boiled. We invested so much time/money we'll put up with price increase, less content, removing(stealing) paid content, because we're hooked, gotta see it out til Final Shape, right. What are gonna do? Quit NOW? After we invested all this time and money. Ok, pay a little more for season pass Alright, buy dungeons ala carte Etc Etc 🤔 If Destiny 1 was released it the state D2 is in now, I would have said, 'Micro transactions, seasons, buyable/not earnable cosmetics, gross, no thank you' But they got us hooked FIRST then slowly slipped it in inch by inch, and everyone who bought from Tess when she 1st set up shop in D1 let it happen. . We're all frogs in the same pot about to be boiled without trying to fight it because Bungie did it Right! One degree at a time. I'm a sucker, I know it, I'm here till Final Shape. But Never buying another Bungie game again, no matter how good it looks. . We tried warning everyone when Tess set up shop in D1. No one listened. Best quote - "Don't give me that slippery slope crap" Well take a look around. This is what we we're warning y'all of. We had the chance to ban together, push back, and drive Tess out of business. ....but.... Oooh, emotes Oooooh, glows Oooooh, etc etc. Degree by degree, that's the way you boil a frog! 😉👍

1 ReplyI also wanted to list everything (that I can think of) that you can pay for in this game now: Forsaken Shadowkeep Beyond Light 30th Anniversary Witch Queen Lightfall Season Pass Dungeon Key Event Card Transmog Campaign Skip Eververse Items Forsaken and the Annual Pass remains the best content / pricing. It'll never be that good again. I'll never forget that Bungie said they intentionally limit themselves so we never get our hopes up again. Sad.

People don’t talk about it because all the fan boys try to defend their purchases even though they know they’re the reason why the prices keep going up

*Looks at Sony*

2 RepliesI love how the season pass has so much glimmer. I love paying real money for glimmer, I mean, because I’m always at max glimmer anyway, so thank you so much Bungo for making me pay for glimmer I don’t need. Braindead money scammers

1 ReplyEdited by Woz: 6/1/2023 9:39:32 AMI buy the annual expansion, "super duper diamond deluxe +++ whatever the f" package once a year. I effectively look at it as me giving Bungie $100 to leave me alone for a year, this gives me access to all the seasonal content, the raids and the dungeons, and the main reason I do this is because $100 once a year for 12 months of content in a game I play all the time? That's not that bad a deal. However $20 to access one dungeon? A bunch of dumb tedious filler content stretched as thinly as possible just keep you busy for a few months? That's not a good deal, that's too expensive for what you get. I don't buy event cards, I don't buy shader bundles and I rarely ever buy silver. If people are dumb enough to drop $20 on a shader, emote or event card Bungie will keep making that option available to them. If people didn't buy it, it wouldn't happen, so you're shouting into a void. I don't buy event cards or shader bundles on principle, because they're an embarrassing cash grab, and I'd feel like an idiot if I let a $3.6bn corporation take me for that much of a mark. Other people however don't think about it that deeply, they just see a shader, they want the shader, they buy the shader. You're not going to reach those people, so there's no point in letting it annoy you. Just be thankful you didn't get addicted to something like Lost Ark or Genshin, those games are so predatory and exploitative they should be illegal, and once you experience those games it's really hard to get outraged about Destiny 2 microtransactions. Imagine a world where the only way to get guns was to buy "Star Engrams" in batches of 10, that you could only buy for silver, and spending over $300 would net you maybe two exotics? Then to add insult to injury, if you wanted the catalyst for those exotics? You need to get the same weapon another 5 times! Destiny's monetization is more embarrassing than a problem, Bungies monetization is just a petty attempt to nickel and dime the players at every opportunity, and it just feels unbecoming and makes the game harder to sell to friends. But let's not get delusional, in the modern gaming landscape Bungie's monetization strategy is a lot better than the majority, which is massive condemnation of modern gaming... but not Bungie itself.

1 ReplyThey're pushing it hard right now because most people have far better things to spend their money than an overpriced icon on a screen. Willing to bet sales are falling as players are leaving and new ones are not as invested and will balk at paying £15 for set of armour skins. I used to buy a bit of Silver for the odd cosmetic, haven't bought any in the last three years since the politics appeared. Want to favour all these minority groups ?? .. Get them to keep your company afloat then. My money, whatever I am buying, goes to companies who treat all their customers as equals. The prices in Eververse are shameless and Bungie have backed themselves into a corner with it, everything goes in there and everyone can see it. I wont be buying their new cash shop, once the Light and Dark saga is done, and I will be waiting for Final Shape to be reduced before forking out for it, Bungie are dead to me. They are sowing the seeds of their own demise right now, treating players like walking wallets while their game barely works. A 20% bump in price for a season with no added value ?? .. Says it all, and that's before we get to the needing to buy more silver then you need bit. Remember when they told us that Eververse was there to fund more content ?? .. Keep that in mind people when they start hyping Marathon.

Wait until you leave your mum’s basement and find out about groceries!

Lol. I've been here 8 years.. not a single silver has been purchased.. just get the deluxe edition.. and I don't worry about anything.. the rest is just cosmetic.. when they look at games like fortnite and gta.. of course they do it. Cmon man lol. FIFA ALONE keeps one company afloat lol. That's just how the market is.. now if you FEEL like you NEED that look lol that's on you man... the deluxe edition has the main playable things under one lower price.. anyone buying seasons separately has to be new at this point
-
Youre taking the game to seriously. Just dont buy it, go play something else.
-
Honestly it might be cheaper from now on to just buy the $100 year pass, especially with seasons increasing to about $15. I sighed w relief when I saw the price changes to seasons and to dungeon keys.
-
It’s not that bad these past two expansions I bought the delux editions only because these past two dlcs have been big story wise so I know these seasons are gonna be interesting story wise. As for season passes an eververse i don’t really care like some crap you won’t even wear or use now if added cool finishers then i might have a problem but until then no complaints besides the core playlist needing maps 😂

There's another one that never gets discussed, but especially given D2 has Cross save, the fact if you want to play on more than 1 platform, you've got to purchase the entire back catalogue to access stuff you already own the license to. This isn't just a Bungie issue but an industry wide issue. Personally I've almost given up with D2, once they revealed Marathon with dedicated servers, that was it for me. Was already fed up with the raised seasonal prices and dungeon key debacle. As someone who has to tightly budget money due to rising living costs, Bungie are doing nothing to help alleviate these issues, instead they're making the game more expensive to play and now that's before we even talk about single armour sets now costing £20. Bungie have gotten greedy since splitting with Activision. And yet the bugs and standards have dropped dramatically, I'm at the point where I actually hope Marathon bombs, because the way Bungie has treated Destiny since starting to work on it has been diabolical.

10 RepliesIt really feels like we're living in a dystopian late-stage capitalism fever dream. My wife and I make good money, and even we are just taken aback at the prices on everything everywhere you look. But video game companies??? Umm no. They have no inputs. They have no physical outputs to move around the globe. They are not impacted by "supply chain", or fuel costs. There's just no excuse for this. This is greed, plain and simple.
-
I'm not buying Marathon. If they are willing to do this to destiny. Just imagine the skins and garbage they will do for the new game.
-
Are there a lot of f2p players who are regulars? Bungie should make THEM pay for server upkeep or whatever through Ever Verse, not us. Bungie should remove all the ways to get bright dust from f2p and let us have them. Or at least give us a heavy discount... I would buy more if things were cheaper. 20 bucks for an armor set is ridiculous. That's almost a third of a brand new game! This isn't League of Legends, I already paid 100 bucks...
-
11 RepliesI hope their new game dies in a heartbeat. I want them to face consequences for their trash human behavior milking us for every penny without providing any quality content. I will laugh at these clowns when people talk about their trash marathon game like they did about Anthem.

5 RepliesI hate to defend Bungie but as bad as Eververse is, after watching some video reactions from the likes of Armstrong on Diablo 4’s Monetization System, Eververse pales in comparison to Diablo 4. And the highest edition for Diablo 4 is extremely Pay to Win crap. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go throw up cause defending Bungie made me sick. *Runs into bathroom and throws up*
