Theory: The ghosts were not created by the Traveler, at least not as an act of will.

As the golden age fell to the darkness, the Neomuni watched from their hidden city among the clouds. The Ishtar collective which had been studying the veil and were engaged in the earliest prototypes of the neural network used by the modern Neomuni, conceived a plan. A plan that at first did not work out very well mind you. For all involved. The Ishtar collective created tiny drones, infused powerfully with the light, as well as golden age technology. Then using the neural uplink equipment, the quantum footprint, the synaptic data from volunteers, for lack of a better word, using veil technology their minds were uploaded into these small drones. How ever the transition had negative effects, causing a sort of amnesia. These drones were released into the sol sector to seek out human remains that had been infused with the light, to bond to them and resurrect them as light infused warriors to fight the darkness. Guardians. These experiments did not end well, as the earliest warriors used their power selfishly, becoming war lords. But it was at least getting the job done. How ever Neomuna also needed a refence force. After witnessing the failed experiment that was the light drones, or "Ghosts" as they were called, the Neomundi scientists created enhanced warriors, with a caveat. You would die after 10 years. So your choices are live nearly forever in a digital construct, or, have super powers, and die after a few years. This was to weed out the selfish, the arrogant, the power hungry... For those who want power for them selves would never choose death as payment for those abilities. Only those truly committed to protecting Neomuna would make such a sacrifice. And so the Cloud Striders were born..... Though, none of them know that the cap on life span is by design, not a failure of the mod process....

  • This is absolutely fantastic, and I hope this turns out to be the case, because finding out the ghosts were never sent by the traveller would be mind blowing!

    • Ghost origins have already been revealed. Lorebook Ghost Stories, The We Before Us: “I remember the moment we were born. There was pain, and loss, and a feeling of falling. Was this the end? The shadows gathered, colored bruise-purple and gray in Our fading consciousness. Our shell cracked and splintered. Parts of Us were lost, or carried away. We felt those wounds, jagged and sharp. We could feel them still, attached by a gossamer-thin strand of understanding. We felt a garden with no blooms. A valley shrouded in gloom. We felt ourselves dying. We didn't want to go. Then there I was, separated from the whole. I could feel it shrink, slip back into itself, dim and unseeing. I knew it was waiting. Resting. Watching. Considering. And I knew what I needed to do. Somewhere in this wide, amazing galaxy there was a person. They were quiet and dead, like We had been, but I could bring them back. I could share what was inside of me, this glorious warmth and life and breath and being. Together, that person and I would do what We, the We before me, could not. I wrapped the spark that was me in metal and glass, a tiny bit of something that reminded me of the home We had shared. Then I set out to find my person. The keeper of my Light.” Ghosts were made as a last ditch effort by the Gardner to empower individuals who could enact its grand plan. Part of the reason why some Ghosts are bad and why some revived bad people is that as it was falling into a comatose state, it was scared, in pain and angry. And some of them were made during those moments and they are off kilter due to it,

        • It doesn’t entirely explain how all ghosts lost the light when Gaul caged the traveler. But I like the thought a short finite lifespan was to prevent warlords. Though something isn’t adding up with cloudstriders. Nimbus said Rohan was the first one to die before their time. In the Hall of Hero’s there are 453 memorials, not counting Rohan’s. Assuming there are always 2 active all the time that’s a minimum of 2265 years of Cloud Striders if they live for 10 years after augmentation. That doesn’t really fit the estimated timeline of Destiny.

what if ghosts are similar to the puzzle boxes found in the og Hellraiser movies and novels written by Clive Barker? coincidentally there were many made but the top 3 were called: the hollow heart, the triumph of judas and the lament configuration (aka lemarchand configuration named after the person who was obsessed with making these puzzle boxes). each puzzle box was specifically designed for someone in particular, ie: they were all different... screems ghost skins/shells 🤯 edit: the riddle ~ your pale heart holds the key SOLVED! anyone figure it out?
