To start, I really love this dungeon's design, theme, and story/lore. I think Bungie did a fantastic job in designing and writing it and would love to see more content like this be made for D2. I think that it'd be a very fun dungeon to play if the subsequent issues that I'm having with it are addressed.
I've been trying to complete Duality solo flawless for about two hours now. There are so many small BS ways that this game cheats you and kills you without actually being difficult content. For example, the absolute two worst offenders in the Duality dungeon are the Crypt slide down and Gahlran's lunging attacks. Gahlran's lunges knock you so far either off of the map or into walls, killing you instantly from physics or off-the-map instant death, and the Crypt slide down ruined my latest solo flawless attempt by careening me down at an insane speed, killing me once I touched a tiny bump at the bottom of it. The fact that this dungeon also relies on brief 1-minute long wipe mechanics, forcing you to rush through every boss encounter and knocking you into walls or off of the map to kill you makes for a miserable solo experience and is painfully unfun for an otherwise innovative, beautifully designed dungeon. You are given zero time to breathe and especially in the 2nd and 3rd encounters, very little if any spare time to kill the Bellkeepers when solo. Playing under constant, unrelenting time pressure for every boss encounter that is only lightly relieved when you kill the correct Standard Bearer is painfully stressful and unfun.
I have yet to reach Caiatl's boss fight solo, but from my experience doing it with a full team, I imagine that it will be equally as miserable as Gahlran's boss fight due to the endless waves upon waves of Psion snipers and Centurions. If your build isn't absolutely perfect or stupidly OP to survive this enemy spam Hell, you will likely be unable to solo flawless it, let alone solo it without spending many hours of your life trying. I am aware that Saltagreppo recently solo flawlessed Duality, but he is an insanely talented player and probably within the top 0.1% of PvE players for skill given that he solo'd Atheon too. I would hope that players of his caliber weren't the benchmark in designing this dungeon's add density/spawn frequency and mechanics.
Before anyone asks: Yes, I know dungeons are far easier with two other teammates to help me. In fact, I completed it with a random LFG team today upon finally mastering its mechanics. Yes, I know I do not have to solo/solo flawless this dungeon. However, if I want to get the Duality seal and title (which I do), I must at least solo it. I've solo flawlessed every other dungeon in Destiny 2 and none of them were as miserable of an experience as Duality has been so far. I and other completionist players who enjoy challenging ourselves are likely equally frustrated by how you can easily have your attempt ruined by stupid deaths like dying on the Crypt slide.
I really hope Bungie's dungeon team reads this and listens to my suggestions, because I think this would be the most fun dungeon should it be made slightly less punishing in terms of the time-crunch and enemy spawn density. At the very least, it would be fantastic if slightly less enemies spawned when running solo, but I don't know if that's something possible to code this dungeon for. Less ways to die from getting knocked off of the map by bosses or randomly die from the map's physics would also be great too.

I don’t like jumping games, so I didn’t get very far before I decided to stop wasting my time. Bungle has no interest in solo players and makes sure that this kind of activity is as frustrating as possible. Can’t count how many times I’ve gone to play other games because of this. I’d rather pay them as well. And its not about getting good. Why would I want to get good at something that I don’t like? Hey, I’m gonna get good at cleaning toilets - not.
-
From someone who solod it the spam of enemies definitely sucked but was easily dealt with with my titan build thats pretty basic. What ruined my flawless run when I almost killed caiatl was the fact her stomp activates and flings incendiary backpacks at my face. I have a video posted on my Xbox account of the second time it happened. I think it’s fine but incendiary’s deal way to much damage. Especially the burn and pushback they do.

5 RepliesNot to mention sometimes you randomly die when hitting the bell (entering the nightmare dimension, not exiting)

1 ReplyEdited by Smough: 5/28/2022 4:35:27 PMEven though I have no interest in soloing dungeons I could tell while doing it with a group that duality would be hell for people who try to solo it. I wouldn’t at all be against having something in place where the dungeon is slightly more forgiving when attempted solo.

I just watched 20 minutes of your run and am very disappointed that you ran more in 20 minutes then you do in all of the previous dungeons put together.. that dungeon just does not look fun what so ever, quite tedious in fact and boring shooting so many of them red things… Wanted to see it first and now am really not paying extra for it. Thanks 👍

I've soloed every dungeon and run every dungeon except Prophecy solo flawless, with Pit being on my dads account and I can say without a doubt that this is a terrible solo experience. I didn't even bother with the first encounter after spending a good 20 minute in there because I realised I'd likely be stuck trying to MAYBE 4 phase it and only IF I ran a very specific build. The tight timeline you have for getting to and doing DPS in encounter 1 is too tight to do any substance damage with anything but a sword with witherhoard or something. The second encounter is bound to be much simpler because you can take your time with it. The third encounter gives you maybe as much time as the first gives you for DPS assuming you can even make it there alive. Bungie made this dungeon with the intent to force everyone into running max resilience builds or you suffer. Dungeons were fun but even in a fireteam of experienced guardians, this is tedious and miserable. I'd almost rather do Petra's Run.

6 RepliesYou know what the most miserable part of Duality is? The obscene amount of blue drops! Nobody playing this dungeon needs them! C'mon Bungie, just disable them!
-
20 RepliesSingle player anything in this game has been discouraged and stiffled by Bungie. I think it overall sucks that they force game play to be multi-player in everything. It should be scalable. If you want to play solo, scale the difficulty to suit that IMHO.
-
1 ReplyAgreed. I went in solo, I enjoy exploring and figuring these things out by myself so I had no idea what to expect, I was enjoying myself up until the first 60 second wipe mechanic. Come on Bungie, stop forcing us to rush everything ffs.

1 Replyi would be okay if they would not have buffed the health of those red trash mobs to eternity . making almost all my void builds useless since i cant even kill a trashmob with my grenade anymore.. -.-the oit also: we have arrived at raid difficulty.. the raid tedious and convoluted approaach has now swept over the dungeons.. making them almost as tedious and convoluted as the raids.. dungeons were supposed to be fun activities , a bit LONGER than strikes and mostly fun to play .. this dungeon in nothing short of a raid.. you need to figure out mechanics and cooridnate with the team.. which is fine in raids and for those wild beasts that love the pain of a grandmaster night fall.. but the dungeon was supposed to be FUN and not another practise in how can we figure out that stuff.. bungie nailed it with the Pit of heresy.. the shattered throne and Prophecy although super hard to solo its possible and its a fun experience in a fireteam grasp of avarice was "ok" whiole fun and funny, it was annoying , especially the sparrow part where most of the people simply checkpoint swapped to avoid this. ( FFS just have NO timer and we are good, its a fun game not a racing game. ) but this last one as sweet as it is , its friggin tedious. a chore.. and well you CAN make it a chore in hero difficulty, for thos who want.. but on legend it should be the breeze its supposed to be.. its a friggin game not a competition.. +

4 RepliesTimers and wipe mechanics. Lazy man's way of making "hard content"
-
1 Replyagreed it feels more like a mini raid than a fun dungeon. it leans to heavy on mechanics which has killed the fun for solo's.feels like its made for raider's or streamer's
-
25 RepliesWhy do people solo thing that are meant to be done in a team or with friends? And on top of that, why complain when the mechanics aren’t solo friendly? Makes no sense to me. I’ll agree a few things here and there could be better but in the end of the day, you’re soloing something that wasn’t designed with solo plays in mind.

13 RepliesEdited by $hirtless Captain Kirk: 5/30/2022 8:04:13 AMI was trying it a little too, but after realizing just how many people are trying and will eventually get it, I've lost interest. If so many people can do it, it cannot be all that special.
-
1 ReplyHey, actual advice, for the death slide just jump repeatedly down it, it stops your momentum everytime you land and then just jump again. Don’t just jump though, use your boost or glide or whatever to kind of ride the ceiling down if you know what I mean
-
Im currently stuck on the final boss. The endless mobs of psions are a real pain. I really wish i could get a split second to gather my thoughts before hitting the bell but nope. Its always chaos. Then during damage i keep getting tripple snipe killed while dpsing the boss. The issues i had with the first encounter was the bells killing me while teleporting. Second boss room was ok, the phalinxs were kinda annoying tho.

53 RepliesI’m so over puzzles and mechanics in this game, like why does every activity have to be the same. Why can’t we have a dungeon that’s just combat focused
-
1 ReplyAnyone who tells him to get a life clearly didn't watch his attached vid or actually read his post. That slide section is clearly misleading, as it looks like he didn't even hit anything. He has valid complaints. Let him.
-
8 RepliesYou are complaining that a 3 person activity isn't fun solo? 🤨
-
1 ReplyIt’s not that hard to do duality I got day 1 just figure it out very quickly I see so many people in the community complaining it’s to hard and very miserable like come on it’s not that hard to do the dungeon it takes time and skill and contmitment
-
I also did whole available dungeon solo flawless even when I'm pvp main, and cleared the day 1 avarice solo. I can tell that I won't be trying solo flawless for a while, with a brutal nerf to resistance mod and mob spawning design on this dungeon is really off.

1 ReplyEdited by chef_bourgeois: 5/29/2022 3:35:27 AMI had such a good time being a D1 serious causal player I feel like a rookie now. I did take a year off. I just feel like you gotta coordinate everything now. Most of you love gaming with friends all night. I don’t have that nor a clan, I guess I better step up and clan up Send me invite if you need a good clan mate

Then don’t do it solo

Edited by Zoidberg: 5/29/2022 4:45:09 PMSaltgreepo is probably the best pve player we have witnessed in destiny history tbh. Anyone who compares content to them are not realistic in expectations for difficulty. Side note for the slide. Use the outbreak perfected mission slide method. Bonk your head near the end to negate momentum. I will be attempting this soon as a fellow solo dungeon player. Looks hard but fun.
-
Past dungeons solo flawlesses were basicallly don’t be a -blam!- moron and you’ll eventually get it. I’m excited for this one as yeah you need a powerful build, thought out plan, and knowledge of each encounter or easy wipe spots. This is exactly what a solo flawless challenge should be and I’m happy it’ll be more of an engaging challenge then some others are

Edited by Temmie: 5/29/2022 9:18:20 AMThe final room is a massive horrible minefield of incendior backpacks that instakill you and never despawn literally everywhere after you start solo, its completely maddening, cant keep track of everything one the floor while you are being repeatedly juggled about by psion spam, gonna lose my mind
