Transmog Exotic Armor

What I would love to see in Destiny is the ability to Transmog your exotic armour to look like any legendary. It's a shame that the perfect looking character is being held back by an exotic that does not match the style of the other armour pieces. Legendary armour shouldn't be able to be transmoged to look an exotic however you should be able to make your exotics look like standard legendary armour. Edit: I'd like to challenge the notion of "it won't be done because of PVP". 1) How many people can actually identify each exotic (and all their ornaments) on all 3 characters and know instantly what perk that exotic gives? Step further, who can do that in the middle of a PVP game? 2) Funny how there is so much emphasis on knowing what exotic others run but there is no indication (just by looking at a character in game) what sub class / aspects they are running. Isn't that more important? Some exotics are not subclass specific. 3) In modes like trials, it'll tell you at the start what exotic they are using. High skilled players change their exotics around before using their super. Some even change their play style at times so what difference does it make? If it mattered so much in trials, why not remove all ornaments and colours for cruicble? 4) Does it actually matter? When you see someone wearing a specific exotic, do you change your play style around that one person? Most exotics improve supers / grenades etc. Supers 1 hit kill you regardless and you avoid grenades anyway. So if someone has an exotic that improves their super duration, my strategy still stays the same, avoid them during their super. I can confidently say if you can identify every exotic and change your game style to match that exotic in PVP, you are in the 0.0001% of players. I believe PVP is not the reason but it is financial to encourage people to buy the ornaments.

  • ffS how hard would it be to write a code where in pvp all exotic pieces would have an exempt overlay where they show their exotic default skin only in pvp. Players can have an option to toggle on view exotics as defaults while in pvp or not. Anyone transmogging an exotic in pvp to someone who has that setting on will show their exotic skin by default in pvp. This does not seem like an expansions amount of work to do. This is optional. Everyone can opt in opt out. Everyone can be happy. How this isn't a thing is beyond me. There are too many reasons to explain how stupid the “at a glance” an exotic needs to be known bulls- in this game. You can change armor on the fly, the loadout preview can be deceptive in trials/comp, you can already change colors of armor. TTK in destiny is second(s) or less. A headshot means your exotic didnt contribute anything. IT HASN'T BEEN ENABLED YET SO WE CANT EVEN TELL IF IT ACTUALLY MATTERS. MAYBE A MONTH OF LETTING EXOTICS BE TRANSMOGAGLE AND SEE IF ITS REALLY A BIG DEAL WOULDN'T HURT TOO. Giving options and testing/trying things is always the better answer than just “no”. Waiting 74378457 years for stuff that should be in the game is cancer.

  • 1. I can identify most exotics by looking at them in battle. That being said, there is only 3 exotics used per class so… And before you get started, yes I know more than the “3 per class.” I could confidently name pretty much every exotic and tell you what they do by looking at them outside of the inspect screen. 2. If they are using a subclass specific exotic, chances are they are running that subclass. As for not subclass specific exotics, you just wait for them to use an ability and you can tell what subclass they are using 3. The problem is, it’s only trials that does this. 4. Yes, it does. If I see someone wearing contraverse holds, I’ll know to watch for the grenade charge. Titan wearing dunemarchers? Back away from my teammates and watch for the melee. Knowing what exotic they are wearing can and will change you play style.

    • I agree that this should happen, difficult to make a guardian look good with so many outlandish exotics ruining my fashion. Transmog hasn't stopped bungie selling eververse armor ornaments, so I don't see why it would have to stop them selling exotic ornaments

    • It would probably hide the exotic when you inspect players, meaning you'd have to hover over the armor. It probably wouldn't hide the yellow background since your armor doesn't become rare when rare armor is selected, so you'd know which armor piece was the exotic but you wouldn't know unless the game shows you/ it being used in game or you'd hover over it when you inspect them. Sure trials tells you what the enemy is using, but survival or elimination don't. Its important to know if the warlock popping their rift is running the stag or not, or if there's multiple ones which one is and isnt. You see giant antlers you know that's the stag, when you see those antlers go drop a rift you know to play carefully. You may not know all the exotics and their ornaments but the popular ones players tend to pick up on and can point out in game. It'd be an unreasonable change to make, the bad heavily outweighs the good. It'd be cool but I can see why they won't implement it into the game and frankly, I wouldn't want it either.

      • Would be awesome but because of PvP it won’t happen sadly. You kind of need to see the exotic armor on the opponent so you can tell what special power they have. Oh look that hunter has the chest piece with a 100 eyeballs . I instantly know ominoxulus

      • 💯agree but before the match it should show the roster on the orbit screen and show both they're exotic armor and weapons

I imagine the reasoning they’d use is… no. So you can tell what you’re opponent is wearing and what their special ability would be. My counter to that is. If you’re close enough to see their armor then you’re probably already dead. (Except for a strong zoom) Not to mention that some ornaments change the armor around enough that it doesn’t look that much like the original. And to be frank, there’s a bunch of armor that I don’t use and therefore don’t know their special ability by sight. Ultimately I agree with the OP. While I like the effects of my exotic armors, I really hate their appearance on some. And matching the aesthetic I’m going for often clashes with an exotic I want or need to wear. Off topic. But they’ve said their reasoning is similar to what i gave, about warlocks wearing robes or coats. So you know they’re warlocks. And hunters wearing cloaks, so you know they’re hunters. Except. They have like rare occurrences of ornaments that make a warlock look like he’s wearing armor, or a hunter has only a hood (or just a scarf) So if those exist then already you cannot rely on appearance. So why not give warlocks some not dress / coat options?
