Decrypting the Darkness quest not showing up.
So I took an extended break from the game, around 3 weeks into Season of the Chosen. I was maining one character at the time due to my work schedule. I unlocked the recaster etc on my Warlock and never touched my other 2. I just came back to the game, bought Season of The Lost, and was attempting to unlock focusing for them, but am unable. I read online that to fix the Proving grounds part of the quest not showing up, you should proceed with the splicer quest till it gets to the same "complete decrypting the darkness" step. So... I wanted to buy the previous season. Jokes on me can only access it with the deluxe edition. So I purchased it, continued on with the quest.... and now I am 50 bucks in the hole and have TWO quests that are stuck at that exact same part. No quest showing up at the decoder. Not exactly a great return to the game and I'm frustrated beyond all hell. Any ideas? Any fix? Would love any info I can because this turned me off so strongly.

2 RepliesAnyone else sorta at the point where we like are trying randomly to just throw one Umbral at the wall in the hopes that it fixes? Cause like I have like 12 right now. My mailbox is now my Umbral Engram holder. I dont want to open them and I physically can not progress through any of the stories because of this issue. I understand Bungie is looking into it, but "looking into it" should've been done like 7 seasons ago or w/e when the quest was made. And then when it was noted that it was broken, then they didn't keep making new ones because that broke it even more.

"We're looking into it" sounds like you haven't even got to the point where the staff at Bungie agrees it's happening for us and it's a problem that needs to be addressed. Is it on a to-do list? Will it be part of the hotfix tomorrow? Anything? Should I just give up playing the game for a while until you get around to fixing or what?

I played Hunter for a while and then decided I’d make a Warlock and Titan finally and see how I like them. Turned out I liked Warlock more so I went and redid a lot of the content. But because I have already done the quest to step 6 on my hunter it autocompleted part of it on my Warlock and now I can neither progress Season of the Chosen, Season of the Splicer nor can I focus my umbral engrams on my Warlock. Bungie could at the very least acknowledge this bug, this is literally game breaking. There’s people on reddit that deleted the character they did it with first because they remade them and they’re locked out now (I can theoretically still play my hunter though I don’t want to). Then again, quick response really isn’t something they’re known for so I’m kinda thinking I probably wasted a lot of money on the Deluxe Edition thinking I could catch up on the Seasons later… and now I can’t.

Exactly the same issue and situation with me, came back after aaaaaages, just dunked 50 quid on a deluxe edition and now i have 2 quest lines stuck and a big hole in my wallet. commenting for visibility.

Had the same issue as a returning player , my titan had decrypter unlocked in previous season , but i didnt touch hunter and warlock. Now i have 2 ''Decrypting the darkness'' quests stuck on both of my other characters.

Same for me just on my warlock i’m stuck to this quest and to the quest of the last season because they are thé same quest. Thank’s for the answer and fix this please it’s the start of the season…

Season of chosen - Challengers Proving Season of the Splicer - Path of the Splicer Current season - Wayfinders Voyage 1 There is also a bug concerning Legacy: As Prophesied -Defend the Last City from a Vex Incursion <--- cannot complete this as the current override is Europa I am glad to see your post at least got noticed and acknowledged. I took a bit of a break from game over last two seasons, only popping in some with my titan try a bit of each. Currently I have come back to game and I also have 3 questlines on my Hunter and Warlock halted at "Decrypting the Darkness". If I mark a quest, it quickly shows a prompt on the right side that says "Decrypting the Darkness" completed yet nothing can be seen at decoder or recaster. I have tried every fix suggested on reddit in past. I also cannot progress to getting a hammer and battleground playlists are not accessible on hunter/warlock. On top of that, my Season of the Lost progression in Wayfinder Compass is halted at level 2 because my Shattered Realm anchors are glitched.

7 RepliesEdited by ldymschf: 8/30/2021 8:38:31 PMI posted a fix for this. You pretty much have to get to the umbral decoding portion during this current season. That happens right after the wafers quest line had you do your first astral alignment. It will say the same thing the last two seasons did only this time the decrypting the darkness quest should be there. If not the you have to be at the point in the beyond light quest to where you have your stasis subclass. I created a character just to figure this out and that is what worked for me. I made a thread with this fix for those that it might help make sure to have all seasons (chosen, splicer and lost) at the same step.

It has already been acknowledged that this is a real problem affecting alot of players. Would love to strangle the guy(s) hitting the thumbs down button. Angry at life mfs

1 ReplyI made a post on Reddit last night, but I've run into a very... weird version of this. I play a Hunter mostly, but swapped to Warlock a week before Season of the Lost launched. I played that Warlock until about 2 days ago, realized it was Male (Masculine) and wanted it to be Female. So I took all the armor, weapons, everything I wanted and sent it all to the Vault. I deleted the Warlock, made a new one, did the opening quests (all of them), claimed Stasis again, unlocked every planet, and I ran into the part for the Season of the Chosen where you need Decrypting the Darkness. I can't progress it though, have burned through at least 6 Umbral Engrams, completed Deepstone Crypt on this new Warlock, and the skip mechanic made it so I have Mithrax's quest chain completed and have skipped the Season of the Lost part that would send you to get the quest. So I have Season of the Chosen and Season of the Splicer versions of the Legacy quests to get "Decrypting the Darkness", but I can't progress either. I tried to get my Hunter and Titan to this part, and they're also stuck so now I have ALL 3 of my characters blocked entirely from using the Prismatic Decoder, which is pure insanity. I've tried every supposed fix you can think of. Grind your own Engrams, check the postmaster, make sure you have space for the quest, start the Season of the Chosen/Season of the Splicer chains, start Season of Lost chains (I am caught up completely with Season of the Lost now), I've done all my powerful engrams/bounties/requests to get powerful gear, completed Deepstone Crypt, Last Wish, claimed Stasis again, finished the subsequent quest, started collecting my fragments for Stasis, did Drifter's quests, and the game STILL WILL NOT PROGRESS this step. This is absolutely pure insanity. There's nothing else I can possibly think of other than just slamming Umbral Engrams into the decoder until it decides to work. I am legitimately losing sanity over here. So if there's some that knows of a fix that I haven't tried, please tell me and i'll promptly do it.

Same issue on my account. Stuck on the decrypting for two of my chars. Its locked both step 5 of path of the splicer and on step 2 of the challengers proving. I literally just forked money over, it looks like Bungie don't fix accounts or even have a 'contact us' issue and im past the refund period. I feel really scammed. :(
