'God rolls' almost entirely irrelevant...

...for most players (including me). I have a reconstruction vorpal succession. I never get all 8 shots off. I could get a god roll pve praedith's and I doubt I would use that to it's full capacity either. I see all this god roll obsession and I seriously doubt whether most players could even detect the difference between the best and worst barrel perk on a fatebringer. 'It gives you an extra metre of range!' Tell me I'm wrong and the difference is *massive*. I accept that some 'pve' perks - such as kill clip, demolitionist, firefly etc., are very noticeable and dead handy and/or fun. That's not a god roll, just a specific perk.

  • God rolls are subjective. Even barrel options are subjective. More so for PvP. Take kill clip on a FateBringer. It doesn’t decrease the ttk. But it does make it more forgiving on that second kill. It’s a little different in PvE because it involves DPS. When multiple seconds count, so do the perks. But that’s really optimizing your loadout. You can get the job done with lesser perks. It’s just not as Optimal. As for a Fatebringer barrel that’s subjective as well To me Extended barrel is better for Range and Recoil direction. Yes it already has a direction of 98 but not everyone knows how recoil works in this game. And Extended maxes it out to 100. Making it more vertical But to others it’s not as noticeable to them so they might want something like hammer forged or Full Bore. It’s preference. There’s more than one way to skin a cat.

  • The perks matter the most. Barrel, mag and masterworks are just min-maxing which will give you a few extra percent of efficacy. For me it's the idea that during a day-one raid, or a particularly tough GM or a solo dungeon, that few extra percent can make or break a run. For the majority of content you can use any old off-meta weapons and be fine.

  • Well I'll give you an example. I've got a found verdict with no perks that increase the range. I also have one that increase the range in every slot. I can VERY MUCH feel the difference between the two. One shots and damage falloff between the two are night and day. Just sucks cause my good pve roll is high range and my good pvp roll is low range. Same goes for the actual perks in the last two columns. If you don't get any good perks on your fatebringer, it's just another normal 140 handcannon. But if you get a God roll such as rewind rounds or explosive payload paired with frenzy or firefly, the difference is extremely noticeable. Theres been tons of times with my firefly rewind farebringer where I havent reloaded for 20+ shots and gotten insane crowd control with the explosions, and reloading wouldve been quite the hindrance (portals during gatekeeper in VoG is a great example scenario). Or let's look at your succession. For general play, no your God roll doesn't matter. But take that bad boy into some gms. Having sustained fire on a sniper for 7 or 8 shots in addition to the damage increase from vorpal on majors and bosses is huge. It could be the difference between killing a champion or it regaining all health back because you had to reload and lost damage. Bottom line, for general play. No your "God Rolls" dont matter. But high end content or higher "skilled" crucible play, yeah it really does matter.

    • I disagree for the most part. On some weapons there’s a point where it’s good enough, I’ve got a chroma rush with heating up and rampage that I absolutely love. It’s got a handling masterwork which isn’t what I would have preferred but I don’t feel the need to continue grinding for the same roll with a different masterwork because for me it’s good enough. But then take for example the example you gave of succession, I’ve also got the vorpal reconstruction roll and I think that it’s head and shoulders above the next best roll. But not because I’m laying 8 shots into bosses but because Vorpal really helps damage and reconstruction makes it so I almost never need to reload. Now am I going to lose sleep over which barrel perk I get, no but if I get the same roll with a barrel I think will be more effective I’m going to start using that roll instead.

      • you are on playstation, most "God rolls" are made by pc players, it is easy easier to hit 8 snipes in a row on pc.

        • IMO “God Rolls” are pretty subjective, and seem to be largely (but not entirely) driven by YouTube vids/ streamers. My lad raves about certain rolls he gets because he’s seen it’s a god roll according to a YouTube vid, but then he doesn’t like the archetype so the gun sits in his vault unused 😂 (he doesn’t like hand cannons but has some serious hardware stored away for a rainy day).

          Gods rolls are subjective. What you like and are good with will not always be the same as someone else. Don't avoid using a weapon just because it's not the "god roll", you could be missing out on a very fun weapon simply because someone else said it wasn't a good enough roll to be worth using. I have "god roll" weapons but those are weapons I got just from playing, not stuff I really hunted for. Sure there are some perks/perk combination I don't use because they don't fit my playstyle, but as a whole I just use what I get. This is generally speaking. As others like sonicBOOM have mentioned below, for difficult content your weapons roll can help to a large degree with things like increased damage output or not having to reload. For general gameplay, (bounty farming, strikes, gambit, etc.) don't sleep on every weapon that's not the listed god roll.

          I have an auto loading heritage and I couldn’t care less that it has killing wind. Auto loading was all I needed.

          • What I know from reading comments on this forum: 1) Everyone hates streamers and youtubers for some reason. 2) Most casual people who play Destiny claim to know a whole lot more about the game than they actually do.

            • God rolls are subjective. See my main two perks are feeding frenzy and a damage perk. All my weapons have some reload and damage boost bar a few that have reconstruction and disruption break... A very underrated perk for anti barrier weapons. Example... People say a fatebringer with explosive rounds and firefly is the best roll you can get because it's reminiscent of old fatebringer. I disagree. I'd absolutely LOVE a firefly kill clip or damage combo. Shotguns. Trench barrels for days, I have 2 perfect ikelos ones from prophecy. You may have a weapon you absolutely love. Someone might say it's not a god roll. Their opinion doesn't matter.

            • barrels frankly don’t matter in my experience. (unless it’s a shotgun) guns that have significant sight change that can roll is a bigger deal to me. masterworks are just handy any shotgun without opening shot will outclass anything that doesn’t have opening shot. other than that rolls come down to preference. but fatebringer is frankly really overhyped, it’s pretty garbage. maybe the adept version will be better.

            • If you think pve some perks are awesome, if you think pvp it's more about the connection and playstyle. I've been rocking IB with khvostov and fighting lion.. used to snipe lion in qp.

            • god roll succesion does more damage per bullet, so while you most likely dont get the whole clip off it still does better damage than most. for last season it was amazing for antibarrier

            • I can see what you mean but there are magazine options that are really good on some weapons. Mainly perks like assault mag on shotguns and alloy mag on snipers.

            • Some things are definitely over hyped. Especially by very good players who would do well anyway using all green guns. Most "god rolls" only grant a small edge at best.

            • I'd agree if you don't do end game or competitive gameplay the god rolls go from a must to nice to have. Your succession combination of recon/vorp is the god roll. vs a killingwind unrelenting in a GMNF is the difference between guarentee'ing you can solo the barrier vs needing to team shoot or risk being mid-reload. [last season]

            • Depends on the gun. Barrel perks can make or break a auto rifle where recoil direction is more important than say on a hand canon.

            • I have a Bottom Dollar with some decent barrel options and magazines, also with Outlaw and Rampage- perfect for PvE, right? Wrong, even with a fast reload on the weapon and a damage dealing perk, the weapon is just too clunky to use. God rolls aren’t [i]that[/i] valuable.
