Can't Obtain Decrypting the Darkness Quest
I can't seem to progress past the second step of the "Legacy: Challenger's Proving" quest because I can't actually get the subquest Decrypting the Darkness from the Umbral decoder; it literally just won't show up. Any solutions?

1 ReplyOkay I’ve spent the last couple hours working this out and finally upon completing the offensive quest “ASTRAL ALIGNMENT” which is located in the middle on the left of dreaming city. I have returned to the H.E.L.M and I can now accept the quest. Reply to me if you need further assistance

I scrapped my quest for some reason i cant remember and its not in the quest terminal. Any suggestions?

Edited by The_Unknown: 11/9/2021 6:17:54 PMGuys I figured it out. so all I had to do was complete the osiris and the crowd talking mission and then I got the "decrypting the darkness" from umbral decoder. (edit) i have done ALL free mission.

Edited by MirageofAngels: 9/24/2021 7:23:04 AMFigured out how to fix it. You have to do ALL the starting missions of the season for it to fully go through. I just did the astral alignment quest and was able to snag Decrypting the Darkness.

I think i found something to help. Go to your triumphs page and view the content for season of the chosen claim anything on that page and it gives you engrams with a locked symbol. Hopefully once you have done this go to (if not already there) the helm and the next stage of the mission should be open to you

I am not entirely sure, but I think we need to finish the beyond light campaign first. for me, i didn't do that yet,a nd encoutered the same problem. I checked through the guide again, and it says on one step part, that we have to listen to osiris and crow talking. However osiris and crow first meet in the campaign (that's what I read at least) so maybe we gotta finish that beyond light campaign first. Cause it wouldn't make any sense for osiris and crow to talk during the quest-steps like they already know eachothers when we didn't see them meeting each others in the beyond light campaign yet. PS: Not sure what bungie hlp underneath is talking about. I tried on my second character, but i can't get the quest for some reason. I thought i would delete the quest and try again, but I think i will try beyond light campaign first and see if it works. will give an update when I am done. EDIT: I didn't do the beyond light story, but I just played the astral elignment mission, which you can find in the dreamin city map, just hover with the mouse to the right, and it should be in the middle. After completing it the quest now continues.

I own all the DLCs, have completed everything on my main and decided to start working on my alt. Like all of you, I am now stuck on 3 separate quest lines (Legacy: Challenger's Proving, Legacy: Path of the Splicer 1, and now Wayfinder's Voyage 1) that require the "Decrypting the Darkness" quest. I have decrypted somewhere between 20-30 umbrals at this point after trying many different things, with no success. If you start a Google search for "Destiny 2 Decrypting," the number one result is "Darkness Bug." SO there are MANY people stuck here. Since it prevents players from progressing their quests, and as such playing the game, you would think this would be a top priority for Bungie. But, I have seen no communication whatsoever from them on even acknowledging it as an issue. I guess I just don't play until it's fixed.

In the same boat I have an Umbral engram but the quest "Decrypting the Darkness" isn't appearing in the Decoder's menu. Don't know what else to do.

Having the same issue completed voyage till part 6 so can’t go that route. Trying running battlegrounds that didn’t help. Hopefully it gets fixed soon.

2 RepliesWent thru many attempts at the fixes here but nothing worked for Season of the Lost. That is until I progressed the Season of the Lost main questline until I finished the astral alignment. The current season's equivalent of the "Decrypting the Darkness" quest popped up and was completed by decrypting an umbral engram in the helm. hope this helps

1 ReplyI was having the same issue but was somehow able to get it after I did the Astral Alignment in the Dreaming City during the Wayfinders Voyage quest. The Wayfinders voyage 1, Legacy: path of the splicer 1, and Legacy: Challengers Proving are also as progressed where they ask for Decrypting Darkness to be completed. Maybe it’ll work for someone else?

This is just sad I’m having the same problem I made a new titan which is my second character but I can’t progress through season of the last and season of the splicer at least with this glitch I got myself into I somehow can do that override activity without PlayStation plus for some reason It’s pretty good

1 ReplyIf you have tried every option for fixing this quest and own all past three seasons go through the starting quest for each season until they tell you to complete "decrypting the darkness". Then even without an umbral engram, it should give you the quest like it did to me (this glitch happened on my first character).

10 RepliesHey all ! everyone struggling with acquiring the " Decrypting the darkness " I managed to get the quest by completing each of the past seasons and new quest steps up until the decrypting the darkness step. (season of the chosen, season of the splicer and season of the lost ) once you have all three on the same step, the quest should be waiting for you at the decoder. :) ..."sigh" that was stressful
