Are the Hive just bugs that found religion? I havn't been able to figure out what they are and what their goals are. From what little I understand from lore, they are a species that focuses on "Evolution". Apart from Eris Morn being cryptic about them, I really don't know what to think.
Edit: Thanks for the insight everyone, they sound tragic but interesting.

1 ReplyI suggest watching MyNameIsByf video on the Books of Sorrow. There are some details that are a little off but the main gist of how the Hive came to be and what drove them to such extreme measures is captured. The Books of Sorrow is one of those that I hope this Bungie media plan dives into in the form of a miniseries or something. It's such an interesting bit of lore.

The hive were a species who in the beggining of their existence hadn’t had much power and intelligence. Then on their planet they discovered darkened connected worm gods. In return for power the hive fed the worm gods. Oryx, Savathun, and Xivu Arath were the first of the hive to find the worms.

They are an alien race that sold there souls to wormgods in exchange for power and immortality But they must feed there worms what they desire or be consumed by them, and most of them crave death and destruction They are known to be a tool of the darkness, but lately they have separate agendas from it , Savathuun is trying to get freedom from her worm and the darkness -
Of all the enemy races we fight, the Hive are the most strongly associated with the Darkness and follow something called “Sword Logic” which is derivative of the “final shape”. The proto-Hive entered into a pact with the worms, which demand adherence to the sword logic or the worms consume them from the inside in exchange for their power. Oryx once slayed a worm and took its power for himself, giving him the ability to commune directly with the darkness with no need for a middle-man. This gave him the ability to “take”. Savathûn, perhaps the strongest living Hive seeks to free herself of her worm and has already succeeded in finding loopholes in how her worm is fed.

They were once the krill, a weak powerless species that only lived 10 years. Then the three sisters found the hive worm gods and boom you got Oryx, savathun, Xivu wrath, and the hive.
