The Luke Smith interview

Luke my man what are you on about here.
So at the start of the interview he goes on about how he wants an unified class customization system with a lot of choices and mods to swap around.
And after that we go from wanting customization to completely removing Novawarp?
How does that not seem counter intuitive at all?
Also the reason is that it's bad in PvE and nieche in PvP.
Well if you'd work on a customization system or buffs or reworks you could actually make it universally good.
And alongside with that you could make Novawarp "IP-defining"
I don't even play Warlock and thematically that thing is badass, just needs help from buffing.
And even then what if it's just better in PvP?
How is it possible that the actual game director is intentionally missing out a whole chunk of the playerbase?
Crucible has been on an obvious backburner and neglegted for a long time.
But it has been a part of the game long before Destiny 2 was starting to be designed.
So it hurts to see such a disregard to not only a gamemode, but part of the soul and uniqueness of Destiny as a whole.
I think most of us were happy with having PvE PvP or hybrid options.
Man, I just love my Code of the Commander in PvE.
And with Luke's logic it's inferior to bubble.
So I can enjoy my team support Banner Shield while it lasts and once it's removed it's a GG.
So, get ready to say goodbye to your favourite subclasses.
The Lightfall expansion is now seeming pretty bad and pbvious to what's going to happen.
Goddamnit.
Why did you make such a good game and then decide to rip it apart one by one.

57 RepliesI think you are missing the forest for the trees. What he's talking about is---once again---moving the game towards being more of an RPG like it was at the end of D1, and how it is in similar games. The problem in Destiny 2 is that so much of this game as it has been over the last three years has been dominated by this misguided attempt to become an e-sport....and allowing PVP to dominate both how abilities are designed....and how the game is tuned. The result is that the various classes have lost their identity, and have become more alike (PVP balance) than they are different or disctinctive. That over-emphasis on PVP has lead to most Warlock sub-classes being useless in PVP....and an overemphasis on roaming supers which are useless for anything other than crowd control in PVE. So the point he's making isn't about "ripping the game apart"....but instead EVOLVING it so that each class has a distinct idenity...and a distinct fighting style. So you have a reason to pick one class over another....and play it. IOW...to settle on a class-defining power-fantasy....and then lean into it. Something the game had in Destiny 1....but lost in Destiny 2 in pursuit of e-sport hoop dreams.

3 RepliesI bet they'll remove warlock supers but give hunters more op ones...

1 ReplyReading the article removing some supers doesn't seem so bad, especially if we get to customise our supers more. I'd love a more intricate system similar to D1 but I doubt that's going to happen. I also agree that the light powers need an update especially when compared to stasis.

8 RepliesEdited by El Delicioso Magnifico: 12/17/2020 8:49:58 AMI'm copying and pasting this on posts related to this topic so I apologize if you see me everywhere. I had a brainstorm and I wanted to pass it around. Ignoring all the jazz about Luke, I just wanted to give an idea that could/should be on the table, and with the customization of our light subclasses coming up, this provides a perfect opportunity to do so. Replicate top tree sentinel titan for all other subclasses. Press for sentinel shield, hold for ward of dawn. It's been in the game since the launch of D2, and implementing this would give every other subclass a great deal of diversity in their playstyle. Think about it. When was the last time you saw chaos reach? I saw it a month ago in the crucible, and I started laughing because it hasn't been relevant since its boss melting days at the Halloween event in 2018. Now imagine that warlock running through a strike and clearing a trash mob in a room with storm trance, to then go on and chaos reach the boss at the end. It sounds no different than me, a titan main, doing the same thing with my sentinel shield. This is why I never switch from sentinel because I have options, and it can work with literally every other subclass out there provided they get a much-needed buff. Supers need to feel like supers and shouldn't be getting outclassed by weapons in terms of damage output. Why is a sword or a sniper rifle a more optimal form of DPS than a concentrated blast of lightning? Anyways, changing it this way would certainly bring a new dynamic into the game for both PvP and especially PvE as we often find ourselves in different situations in different parts of the activity. Obviously, some supers might have to get reworked, but that's ok (I'm looking at you, sunbreaker). Then there is the matter of deciding which to tie to lock and which to hold. I think this should be based on the reaction times of supers. Obviously, somethings should be tied to aspects or maybe exotics that already exist. I'm not a game dev, so don't criticize me too hard. Here are my thoughts: Sentinel: Press for sentinel shield, hold for ward of dawn. Tie the banner shield into aspects or even it into the Ursa gauntlets themselves to free up an aspect slot for something else. I don't see a situation where I would run a banner shield and not Ursa and vice versa. Sunbreaker: Press for the hammer of sol, hold for the big hammer. I think the hammer needs a new purpose. Make it a boss killing super with the spin used for DPS and the heavy attack to stagger bosses. It's a big freaking hammer, and it should act like one. Imagine hitting the boss with a melting point, then popping the big hammer and swing for DPS while staggering him with a big swing every once in a while. Nothing is more frustrating than trying to damage the boss and he's constantly tanking everything you throw at him and a boss stagger feature would possibly incentivize players to use sunbreaker in high-end activities. Striker: press for the fist of havoc, hold for thunder crash. Top and bottom tree perks tied to aspects. Gunslinger: Press for blade barrage, hold for GG. Top and bottom tree perks tied to aspects. Arcstrider: I believe the deflection spin should be intrinsic to the entire super. The super tied to holding the buttons should do one of two things: A) create a new super, or B) Bring back blade dancer and reinvent it for a new purpose. Obviously, both supers do the same thing, so maybe the blade dancer can throw knives similar to how the hammer or sol vs. the big hammer work. Then if we go that route, maybe make the knives do something. Something like replicate anarchy then retain its melee ability for a short while? I don't play hunter, but maybe this could be a thing. Void hunter: Press for tether, hold for spectral, Top and bottom tree perks tied to aspects. Sunwalker: Press for dawnblade, hold for well. Top and bottom tree perks tied to aspects. Voidwalker: Press for Nova bomb, hold for nova warp. Top and bottom tree perks tied to aspects. Darth Sidious (Sorry, forgot the name), press for stormtrance, hold for chaos reach, Top and bottom tree perks tied to aspects.

Its used to be good in pve before they gutted it.

2 RepliesThis could be done right. It won’t be, but it could be.

What's he on? Paint fumes, maybe. Probably something more expensive given how much the items in eververse cost.
-
1 ReplyI for one welcome a more distinct feeling between the classes. Probably not at the cost of half the supers though.

7 RepliesEdited by SomarYNot: 12/17/2020 12:08:48 AMThen why dont every warlock run nova warp here on out till said time runs out thatll change the volume stats and Bungie will see that... but nooo.... cause your toxic and clutch to stasis like it's the cure to covid

I hope they get taken away. A system more like D1 year one would be much nicer.
So D2 is Luke Smither's ongoing phantasy where he's in charge of shaping the world everyone else has to pay for. God help us all.

4 RepliesThis has nothing to do with class identity or definement. This is Luke prepping people that when they give the light-based classes the stasis treatment, they aren't going to be doing it for each forsaken super. Too much work. They'll combine the top and bottom trees for each subclass as they are mostly similar and scrap the middle trees. This is just him giving some bs reasoning that will catch the attention of some delusional folks believing that they'll do it right and it "makes sense". Na its just them being lazy once again. Coming up with aspects for these supers as Luke mentioned before "making content is hard".
