Allow players to change gender of a character/recustomize
TL;DR: Please let players change the appearance and gender of their Guardians. It'd be cool for everyone, and really affirming for trans or gender non-conforming players.
Hello! First time posting, but I wanted to bring up something that I'm sure plenty of people have suggested: being able to dig back into the character customization/creation screen for our Guardians. I've always thought it'd be a cool idea, but now I want to bring up how beneficial it could be beyond cosmetics.
I've currently making the transition to becoming a trans man. It's a big journey of self-discovery full of heart ache and heart warming and lots of changes -- my wardrobe, my name, my pronouns, everything -- but thanks to the internet, it's pretty easy to change how I'm represented online. Icons, names, etc.
In comes D2. I've been a Guardian since 2017, and at the time was absolutely jazzed to have a cool lady Awoken Hunter. For the past three years, I've mained my hunter, collecting all the weapons, completing quests, running all the campaigns, finding a clan. IRL, I've found a solid group of friends through Destiny, and I've went through life changes, up and down, and grown, always with D2 and my friends there at the end of the day. My friends and I have created headcanons for our clan's Guardians, we've created art, etc...needless to say, I'm attached to my Hunter.
Now identifying as a man, though, it's becoming harder and harder to relax into D2 and play with my friends, at a time in the world where I'd really like to just chill in the Destiny world. I love my Hunter, but it makes me increasingly uncomfortable to be represented as a *female* Hunter. The term is "gender dysphoria" -- feeling actual distress when I'm not representing as the gender identity I know to be (a man).
I know I could just make a new character, a man Hunter, but...it wouldn't be the same. That's not the Guardian I've brought with me through the years. It's not the one with raid completions, or the one who grinded for different class abilities, and it's not the one who saw the Almighty crash into the tower. It's not the one that's done countless quests with friends and fireteams.
Again, I'm sure this has been a topic of discussion before. I just wanted to throw my hat into the ring to advocate for changing the appearance and gender of your character. I'd really like to keep playing my favorite game and my favorite Guardian, and seeing them align with the kind of Guardian I'd want to look like. My friend suggested putting this in the forums or something, especially because he knows a bunch of trans devs at Bungie, and hope the team might understand how important it is to feel your gender affirmed.

2 RepliesI just want a Barber Shop. For changing hairstyles and facial markings. Plenty of space in the tower....and it shouldnt cost more than 500 glimmer per change.

Just store your gear in the vault and delete your character, then make the one you want. Retrieve your gear from the vault and you're good. I know it's not the same as changing the same character but its what we got for now. Hate to see someone not enjoying a good get because it makes them personally uncomfortable.

If I could change my Guardian's hairstyle just once, I'd definitely do it. Maybe I'd add some facial hair as well, assuming Bungie adds it in at some point. Not sure why people are hating on this post so much, I mean it's just redesigning a character; it works in games like Monster Hunter, so I don't see how it'd be a problem in D2.

I’m a male and have zero problems playing games where females are the lead. It’s just a game. Period. End of story. Stop trying to be special.

Transfer your gear, remake your character, and transfer your gear back and bam. You've got a few starting quests but you're right back to the same level. Such a hollow game.

Deleting all your achievements and memories is tough. Maybe you should make a second, male Hunter. If you already have three characters, sacrifice the one you play the least. We should have the option to toggle all our guardians so they share achievements instead of doing most things X3. ----- It would be cool if we could change our guardians, even if we had to use glimmer of legendary shards to do it. People have wanted beards added since D1, Black hair styles are massively under-represented and Destiny players have been complaining about that since D1, plus all the hairstyles and facial markings look dated now. We should be able to change how our guardians look whenever we want. I know the poster was joking, but a choice for a non-binary Exo isn't a bad idea.

Player customization sure, gender customization absolutely not. This game is rated T for teen and what you’re asking would cause the rating to be changed to M for mature.

Don't know where people are getting the idea that it will be added when it was made pretty clear that only new players and newly created guardians will experience the overhauled character creation system. You could have just said character customisation would be good. Which it's being added according to the devs. We didn't need to know your life story.

Just be whatever you feel and go on with the rest of the world that doesn't care about gender. In addition I instantly stop caring the moment I see "non-conforming" or "non-binary" because those are ridiculous things. You should've just done like the rest of us here. Yes we want to be able to edit our characters. Some of us want to change our entire species from human to exo. Some of us want more species. We all want to remake our characters. Do we need some special wording to go along with that? No because it doesn't matter.
