I discussed this lately with some clanmates. Why were D1 raids better?
- First of all the mechanics were less complicated and were still possible even if 1 or 2 players died. In D2 most of the time when someone dies it will be a wipe.
- Res timer in D2 is bad. When someone dies you have to res that person within 1.5 min.
Both above points cause that the heroic moments like in D1 raids are gone.
It also causes that when you go on LFG players will require other players that they Know What To Do. They don’t want to explain all these complicated mechanics.
My favorite raid ever was Kings Fall. Why? Mechanics were not over complicated, lot of boss fights, final boss was really impressive and huge, lot of fun moments with jumping puzzles that were not too hard. It was just a fun raid. This raid should be the blue print for all raids.
Bring back our heroic moments!

1 ReplyEdited by シOblivionシ: 8/10/2020 9:33:17 AMD2 Raid, you die, everyone dies now they all hate you. They scream and shout at you and you get kicked for one screwup. Game over man. What a piece of shit. D1 you are the last survivor on your team, they are all rooting for You to clear the level. You have hardly any ammo, your health is low. The level boss is almost dead. You play like a true hero and the level boss drops dead. You clutched it and now you Move on. what a great game. Or you fail and everyone Tells you you did well to survive alone for so long. No no one can berate you for failing as you died as a team one by one. No one gets kicked or failing as you all failed one by one. D2 must remember mechanics And be perfect or die = not fun D1 just have fun killing stuff and if you die too bad lol.

3 RepliesEdited by Lull9: 8/10/2020 7:30:54 AMEvery raid (except SoS) in D2 can be 2 or 3 manned... so...
-
10 RepliesI’ll tell you this much. I’ve never been kicked because I couldn’t understand someone accent and somehow had an “attitude” in D1, that’s for sure
-
1 Replyd1 raids were more about fun. d2 raids are more about ..........self esteem? accomplishment? i prefer fun.
-
3 RepliesAfter a month of kings fall being out..it was hard to find a decent group because most them Wanted players with malice and 2 bubble titans..sure it was way easier with them but not needed...and 99% of the time the titans were crayon eaters and the simpletons with malice would kill them selves..I always found kings fall was easiest with player who knew what counter clock wise was...can remember their plate...and had thumbs.

1 ReplyI miss using relics like the Aegis (shield), the scorch canons in Wrath of the Machine, and Crota’s sword as a mechanic to beat the boss. All the Raid bosses in D2 just get Xenophaged or Whirlwind blade sword attacked and then they die instantly. Raid bosses in D1 were powerful and they felt rewarding to kill. In D2 raid bosses feel more like strike bosses with an extra mechanic.

2 RepliesEdited by Wook-13-e: 8/6/2020 11:52:20 AMlets see D1 raids can be done in under an hour, less complicated, better weapons and armor sets D2 ....... better exotics one could argue edit; oh D1 raids can be done with less than 6 easier than D2 raids
-
14 RepliesDestiny 2 has better raids.
-
2 RepliesSimple answer is they cared more back in D1, now most of the studio are working on the 100 million game while D2 is run by a skeleton crew an it shows as this whole year has been an absolute flop, due to seasons filled with bugs due to nothing being tested an lacklustre content an I use the word content loosely as a public event to me is not content.
-
D1 had low drop rates but the loot was worth the wait. The roles were always fixed so you knew what you were jumping in for. With d2 completing the encounter only to receive a trash roll is a waste of time. After leviathan I never bothered.
-
1 ReplyEater, Scourge, Garden, and maybe Leviathan and Crown on a good day are good.
-
1 Reply
It also causes that when you go on LFG players will require other players that they Know What To Do.
God forbid players go into complex end game activities with the knowledge to complete it lol

Edited by The Trinity Ghoul [Lee]: 8/7/2020 5:18:00 PMI wouldn't say D2 raids suck, as I have a lot of fun with all of em But that being said I think you have a point with less complicated mechanics. D1 raids were more approachable. I thought Crota was perfect Edit: going to space to destroy a ship with a ball jn spire is pretty darn heroic
-
No revive tokens, more mini bosses, more desirable loot, intriguing story related to and develop led around the raids well.
-
7 RepliesD2 raids are garbage with artificial difficulty and a stupid token system that ruins hero moments. They will never live up To the superior D1 raids that had much better people working on them.
-
2 RepliesSimple D1 I had a group D2 my group left after week 2
-
5 Repliesd1 raids were better because they had more to do with player survivability and skill than just knowing the mechanics by heart. plus the hero moments where a few guardians could clutch a raid. now, if you screw up one little thing you have to wipe. and that isn't very fun.

Edited by AbsolutZeroGI: 8/7/2020 8:34:01 PMD1 raids were fun, but D2 raids are better for exactly the reason that D1 raids weren't great. When I was a new player, I was always told to just sit in a corner while 3-4 people farmed clears. To this day the only encounter in crota I know is the last one. No idea how to do any of the rest of it. In D2 I got to actually learn the mechanics and it was a lot more fun being a part of a winning team. If you want glory moments, get a solo flawless dungeon. Dungeons are basically D1 raids with 3 person fireteams instead of 6.
-
They weren’t. Last wish is the best raid, edging out VoG and Oryx.
-
1 ReplyPrefer D1 raids, prefer dungeons to D2 raids.
-
Bring back raid specific loot, bring back more incentives to raid. Stuff like the WoTM armor with permanent mods that are worth using. Same with guns. Something small like penetrating taken phalanx shields
-
1 ReplyYou say mechanics were not over complicated in D1 and then you pick the most mechanic-heavy fight in D1? King's Fall Oryx fight was so painful for so many groups because of its mechanics mixed with the length of the fight. It's more complicated than anything but like Spire or Crown. I'll agree on rezzes. I don't like rez tokens and if they went away we'd have a better experience with raids I think. Plus, D1 had self rez which was just an oops button. Kinda glad it's gone personally. As for mechanics, the thing that D2 does way better than D1 is teach you the mechanics throughout the raid. Especially in more recent raids, you start to learn what you need to learn in earlier encounters which is nice. However, your point of LFG posts requiring KWTD is not D2 exclusive and happened WAY more (+ Gally) in D1. No one, across the lifespan of Destiny, has wanted to teach someone a raid unless that was the plan already to do so, so you can't site that as a reason. I've explained mechanics after just a few runs to people and, honestly, it's not that hard to do. Most raid encounters have a role that is easy for someone to figure out where a teammate can cover for them if need be. All I'm saying is that complicated mechanics are not D2 exclusive and some of your arguments also apply to D1 raids. I think the big difference is that there was more variance in D1 encounters during raids. Gorgons. Death Zamboni. Golg. D2 hasn't stepped into super interesting encounters, outside of LW which, in my opinion, is one of the best raids on destiny history. Just my two cents!

2 RepliesI prefer D1 raids over D2 raids, but that doesn’t mean that they’re perfect.
Having one person die still meant that the encounter was salvageable, but in most of my cases it was a domino effect that lead to a wipe (VoG or WotM). The res timer compared to how it used to be is way more forgiving. Yes, I’ve had some SotP runs where we all die at least once but still manage to kill the boss.
Never had a heroic moment but I still want to have one :P WotM begs to differ.

1 ReplyI never did Kings Fall, and I haven't done all of D2s raids, so it's not like I can make a fair assessment on all accounts, but Wrath and Vault are still my all time favorites. Then again, D1 was new and ambitious. D2 has largely followed trends, played it safe, and handed exotics out like Halloween candy. I think those above metrics alone make D2 less interesting, but more accessible. You don't need a 1k Voices like you NEEDED a Vex Mythoclast (pre nerf). Looking back on it, D1 raids were easier with better rewards. D2s raids aren't worth the trouble. Except SotP. Go get that Anarchy, it's totally worth it. Until it's nerfed anyways.
-
They were simpler.
-
D1 raids were more simple and braindead than D2 raids. Raids were still just DPS checks against a numbskull stationary target who can fart on you to insta-wipe your team then as they are now, except now Bungo made it a slog due to a token system and cranking up the gimmicks. What a pathetic excuse for a so-called action game.
