Witherhoard catalyst quest
So I just spent what seems like a month completing the catalyst quest to get the catalyst for witherhoard, now I have to go kill a bunch of things to unlock it???? I completed the Ruinous effigy and its catalyst in less than a week. Why is this soooo inconsistent???? Why do some weapons have ridiculous to almost impossible tasks to get a catalyst, while other seemingly fall out of the sky and complete themselves???

2 RepliesYou would hate the sleeper catalyst then for it you need to grind for the ep guns then get 1000 kills while they are equipped (for each gun) then get 500 kills with sleeper

2 RepliesKeep in mind, the Season Pass giveaway exotics (Eriana, Symmetry, Tommy's) all have decently long quests and then their catalyst kills. Btw I like doing my catalyst kills at Shuro Chi.

Witherhoard takes 400 kills minimum (assuming you never used it during the actual quest) which is actually really quick to unlock. The catalyst quest also guarantees that you will get the catalyst upon completion. It's tedious, but at least you know you'll get the catalyst rather than spending somewhere between your next activity to multiple seasons grinding an RNG catalyst.

For the 1 bajillionth time.... Altars of sorrow. You'll be done in about ten minutes. Focus on kills instead of completing the waves and you'll be done quickly.

One of the only ones I don’t have is Sterm because come on, .1% drop rate per kill, lol get reckt And I can tell you that almost every catalyst, except for suros, jade, mida and V wing can be done in 1-3 hours via last wish second encounter farming. The guns above require PvP kills, and legitimately final blow kills which make them take much longer. I had the wither catalyst complete on the third day of the season and I didn’t even know I had it. So I would highly suggest that you’re being extremely hyperbolic because you don’t know how to effectively grind catalysts (Many guns take less than 1 hour, 10-30 min on the faster paced exotics but I doubt you’d believe that so that wasn’t my example time frame)

1 ReplyGetting the kills for the witherhoard catalyst was actually really fast for me. Faster than almost any other catalyst. I would reccomend trying to get a solo instance on Mars, and just ape the mass of thrall that starts the round. I think it took me maybe 10 or 15 minutes

5 RepliesI finished effigy in like 2 hrs. It was easy. The grenade launcher one I’m at 216 out of 300. Problem is I don’t wanna play strikes or crucible. It’s like pulling teeth. The kills part of it won’t take anytime at all

It’s simple. That quest is designed to ruin the lives of the people who didn’t commit to accepting the FOMO and play during the season. Source: I quit for 2 years and got erianas vow and now it wants me to do 400 strikes for a catalyst. I’m sorry bungie but your gun sucks and strikes aren’t as good as d1 so I may get this by the time game shuts down if I don’t delete it first.

6 RepliesIf you get your battle pass leveled up, you get 3x the progress. I did it in the Castellum in about 10 or 15 minutes with special ammo finisher equipped on my cloak. And the Ruinous Effigy gets good gains everytime you shoot a Savathûn's Eye with it, which you should do anyway for the Triumph.

It took me less than 20 minutes to get the Catalyst done. Go into Whisper and farm it there.

How can we get one of the more interesting exotics Bungie has come up with in one day while also having to play Gambit match after Gambit match to get what is soon to be a useless pinnacle? Each piece of loot is a product of its dev cycle. Some seasons need a long grind, others don’t. It makes sense to someone. Personally I think it’s just sloppy.
