is gambit better than crucible lore wise?

crucible

gambit

gambit was originally a ploy to draw out the so called dredgens that would fall into the abyss rather than control it or whatever crucible is supposed to be a live fire training exercise to train guardians better for the next city shaking event (think twilight gap) I would say that gambit is a better training exercise because it contains low skill and common enemy types (dregs, thrall, etc) it has the slightly more powerful enemies somewhat skilful enemies (captains, centurions, colossi, etc), the relatively powerful and high skill enemies (centurions with the weird thing behind their head), very fast and deadly enemies (guardians) and the extremely powerful enemies (primeval) the crucible only has guardians which doesn't cover as many fields as gambit thoughts?

  • Lore wise The Crucible shouldn't have made a comeback till after we beat vanilla campaign. As far as getting Guardians ready goes. Crucible is the "safe" environment, while Gambit is the less forgiving one. Both serve the purpose of preparing Guardians. I'd vote for Gambit since we're actually fighting Cabal, Eliksni, Hive, Vex, and Taken......getting hands on experience with their capabilities....and dealing with many things at once. Though I'd say it would go Crucible, Gambit, and then PvE Activities. Crucible lets Guardians get used to their powers and uses (weapons and gear too) in a relatively safe environment. Besides Dredgen Yor, Red Death, and presumably Crimson....there's no actual chance of Guardians finally dying in Crucible. Lore wise Red Death and Crimson shouldn't even be in Crucible. As both are supposedly Guardian Killers....like final death. Gambit gets you prepared for the unexpected BS that'll happen in the wild and dealing with actual threats. Getting that hands on experience. You're still in a relatively controlled environment, but less so than Crucible.....as there's an actual chance of perma-death here. PvE Activities are where Guardians either do Solo or Group Ops. PvE (lore wise) would be the most challenging. Primarily because it's out of the "safe" environment of the Crucible and Gambit.....and perma-death being much higher here. Solo Ops being the most dangerous in some cases...as no fellow Guardians to back you up and you'll possibly die you're final death. Group Ops for when those extreme threats appear at times and you have back-up.

    • Yes, because Shaxx, a well known Titan and Hero of twilight gap formed it to test guardians and train them for the fight against the enemies of humanity. What better way to hone your skills than to fight each other? Iron sharpeneth Iron. Gambit, however, was made by the drifter only for a yet-to-be discovered purpose (at least for me) that can only lead to trouble. It uses the Darkness and only survives because Shin uses it to tempt those who would plunge into the abyss.

      • I don’t know. Haven’t guardians actually died permanently in gambit? Actually, now that I think about it, have there been any permanent deaths in the crucible?

I think you mean the enemies in Gambit are ridiculously overpowered. There’s just so much bs in Gambit it’s exhausting. The rubber banding mechanics have been discussed ad nauseam and there’s just so much underhandedness. Like the drifter announcing the invader’s on the field after you’ve already been taken out. Well duh. To say nothing of the advantages the invader has which are beyond the pale. Crucible isn’t great and has it’s own share of issues but at this time it’s better than Gambit. Gambit is much more interesting and imaginative in theory though. It’s just the execution. What would help is a kind of pve only spin off with no bs invasion feature, either no Taken enemies or a serious rebalancing in line with the pve side and more interesting and challenging boss battles for each team. Oh and absolutely no Scorn.

              • Only people who suck at both pve and pvp hate gambit and they probably like collecting 15 motes only to lose them to the invaders that could’ve been prevented if you just deposited those 10

              • Lore-wise, Gambit is better preparing us for upcoming battles. Light against Light only works for so long. Gameplay wise? Gambit is horrendously unbalanced, even in comparison to Iron Banner much less Crucible.

I find the Crucible to take guardians to the dark side more than gambit. You focus your hatred purely on other guardians.

              • Different game modes aimed at different types of players. I enjoy both, equally. Some days, I'll have a gambit session just to chill out and teabag invaders for the hate mail.

                • Lore wise: gambit is more advantageous since it accomplishes the same goal as crucible (on a much smaller scale) while also dealing significant blows to enemy forces in the process Gameplay wise: I'd rather play crucible. Season of the drifter absolutely killed gambit for me due to overexposure. It's just not fun anymore with one shot weapons that can kill you from across the map, enemies that deal way too much damage, blockers like the captain, and the worst feeling of failure when you loose a game

                  • I think that while gambit may sharpen your "blade" it leaves the edge ragged and unclean, crucible hones that blade into a force to be reckoned with.
