When I boot Destiny 2 both controller and MnK all work fine, I can switch between either input and the game knows which I'm using and all is good.
If I change focus to something else, i.e. a browser, then click back to game, the controller stops responding.
If I click out of the game and change focus back to another window, the controller works, but instantly stops as soon as I refocus back to the game window.
For me, it is 100% reproduceable and has only been an issue since Season 9. Last season I was switching between windows and never had an issue.
I've tried different view modes (fullscreen, windowed, etc.) but no difference. I've also tried the "fixes" listed for controller support in Steam (Big Picture, remap controller, etc.) but has no effect.
I'm using an Xbox360 wired controller, and also tried an XboxOne wireless controller - both have the same issues.
I've searched forums, reddit, but can't find anyone else reporting the same/similar problem

1 ReplyEdited by Sir Lopesalot: 3/8/2023 2:44:38 PMAs of 2023, I am still running into the same issue. I have tried what has been suggested and it still does not work. The only way I can get this to work is by running fullscreen window mode and being tabbed out. However, this drops the FPS significantly. I currently am using a wireless Xbox one s controller with one of the Xbox controller adapters. I have had an Xbox one controller in the past and that also showed the same issue. I am wondering if there are any new fixes as of late?

Bungie this issue has been even worse as of late. cant alt,tab at all now without the controller completely de-syncing and not getting recognized by steam/in game. Im writing to update this issues.

1 ReplyThis doesn't seem to be getting any attention from Bungie, or Steam. Possibly because most players on PC use a mouse and keyboard. In my case, however, I started playing Destiny 2 about a year ago, and really enjoy it except for this issue. I started on a Playstation controller because of a shoulder injury. It was the only way I could play. Disconnects at random, and always if you alt-tab out of Destiny 2 in full screen, or mouse tab to another window such as your browser. I also tried an Xbox 360 controller, same problems. Considered the problem might be Bluetooth drivers, so I am currently using an Xbox Elite controller with the Xbox Wireless adapter. Tried everything, USB power settings, current drivers, on and on. Same issues with the Xbox Elite controller. If you alt-tab it puts Destiny 2 in the background, frame rate drops to sub 30FPS, and although the controller is still connected to the PC, Destiny 2 disconnects it. Trying to use this on Discord is an adventure, to say the least. Getting in a group, and trying to copy-paste the join code is like going to the casino. If you do it just right in the right order, you might not disconnect the controller. And you have to do all this in Windowed Full-screen mode which zaps your FPS, and any chance of running this in HDR mode. I really don't believe this is a Steam issue tbh. In every case, it's Destiny 2 that loses the connection to the controller. If after a disconnect you check-in Steam, the controller is happily there in big picture mode, operating normally. The only way to fix it though is to restart the game... Bungie if your listening, how about showing us some love and fix this?

3 RepliesIf this is affecting anyone else. I've been doing some more digging as it was bugging me again today. It seems to be a Steam issue and affects most games. But having tried a bunch of "fixes" people have posted that they claim worked (none of which worked [at least not reliably] for me), the solution that did work (and seems to be reliable and correct the issue when it does occur) alt-tab to steam, then alt-tab to the game and the controller then works again Hope anyone else having the issue finds this useful
