(solved) Steam stuck in unpacking - scheduling cycle

(combined all posts together for convenience) I've been unable to start playing the game for a week now. I had preloaded it before the release, and after a few days of not being able to get past the unpacking stage, steam somehow deleted the 80GB-ish data and downloaded again. But it's still doing the same thing. It shows up as Destiny-100% at Library>Games on the left, then when I click downloads at the bottom, it's either unpacking with 0 bytes on all stats on the top left and after a while either a confirmation window saying "An error occured while updating Destiny2 (connection timed out)" pops up or it doesn't and it just goes to "Scheduled for today xy : zt " state and keeps cycling these 2 states in a loop. It's been like this for a week now and this is the 2nd time it downloaded that 79.1GB, but it's doing the same thing again. Maybe I should apply for a refund for shadowkeep -.- I'm not even able to play. Everything was fine back in bnet. Anyone know how to get past this nonsense? I tried switching a few steam servers from download settings, didn't change anything. Bungie guy, don't come in here to say it's a normal thing, let it finish. Alright? It doesn't finish. That's why I'm here in the first place. -------------------------------------------------------------- story-update_1: I've uninstalled it, changed the server it downloads from (from the top left "View" > "Settings" > "Downloads" > "Download Region") and tried to download yet again for the 3rd time. This time it stopped downloading at 97% (77.4GB / 79.1GB) and it started doing more or less the same thing = Repeating the "everything - 0 Bytes" "downloading - scheduling" cycle. FFS Bungie... How irresponsible can you get? Hope you guys can check the files you uploaded to steam servers sometime so I can start playing this bs sometime this year -.- if I can work around finding all the errors you produce and publish that is. Anyone alive in there? Or should I give up and go for that refund? -------------------------------------------------------------- story-update_2 (final): I've checked around and found a solution that worked for me. Lol I've been at this for 8 days now, it took me 10 mins to get it working after this. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Close Steam & go to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam" (or wherever your steam is installed in) and delete everything in the "depotcache" folder. DO NOT touch "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps" or delete anything in this folder like some others seem to have suggested (ofc you can do it if you have an idea of what you're doing). That's where the stuff you've been downloading is stored, it also contains some content from your other games, you probably wouldn't wanna lose those. Restart Steam. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * This worked for me. It looked like it was gonna stop again at 97% (77.4GB) but it didn't and it went straight to "ready to play" after it hit 100%, instead of unpacking like the last time. I've launched the game and I'm able to play now. Hope it helps. -also note to the dude "DragonWithin" who mentioned beta steam client... > m8 I don't even know what that is. "If Bungie had uploaded invalid files to the Steam servers for distribution, everyone would have the same exact issue." > You know steam's got so many regional servers that exist in different physical locations around the world right? Hence they're not one single machine. So not everyone but some ppl end up with these errors. From what I've seen, by reading posts, a significant number of ppl seems to have had such problems. But since I kept downloading from the same regional server and it completed successfully after I did the thing above, the problem seems to be something else. Or maybe some machines in the same regional cluster might have corrupted files, I don't know. Anyway... my problem's solved. Hope this helps others too.

You'll need to contact Steam concerning your issue installing the game. Plenty of other people have been able to fully install, and even play, the game. If Bungie had uploaded invalid files to the Steam servers for distribution, everyone would have the same exact issue. So, please contact Valve to try and work out what might be causing you to be unable to download and install the game. If you're using the Beta Steam client, you might want to try to go back to regular release and see if it resolves your issue. Outside of that, please contact Valve.
