Hi, there. As I'm sure many of you have already realized and some of you might soon realize, Armor 2.0 isn't all it's cracked up to be. Either through massive blunder and mis-execution, ignorance of players' outcry for a nerf to the cost of a Masterwork, or as an act to deliberately infuriate players, Bungie has once again taken a very simple problem with a very simple solution and somehow made it much, much worse. Without really talking about what else makes Armor 2.0 a disaster (like arbitrarily attaching elements to mods for no real reason than to artificially inflate gameplay time or changing the amount of dice you have to roll to get a piece of armor you want from two (perk slots) to six (attribute rolls), I want to go over the most glaring issue. The one the community has been begging to be fixed since before I started playing again in Forsaken after my post-Vanilla hiatus.
In it's old state, Masterworking a single armor piece costed a significant amount of enhancement cores, a relatively rare resource. Enough, in fact, that I never bothered to Masterwork a single armor piece because I could not justify the time spent versus the reward. After listening attentively to it's community, Bungie changed that system by adding two new resources with which to upgrade armor, one of which costs some of the other and the other of which costs enhancement cores. The problem arises in how the cost of the two interact.
The resource you need to finalize a masterwork costs ten of the resource before it. And that doesn't sound too terribly bad at first, until you realize what it costs to buy the first resource. Each one costs 10 enhancement cores, 25 Planetary Materials, and 10,000 (yes, that's ten thousand) Glimmer. If you need ten of these to get the last piece you need, you'll end up paying 250 Planetary Mats, 100 Enhancement Cores, and 100,000 (one hundred thousand) Glimmer. And that might not sound too bad. But you need two of those final resources, meaning that instead of 10 of the one before, you'll need twenty. This will cost you 500 Planetary Materials, 200 Enhancement Cores and 200,000 Glimmer.
This is what the last two of ten steps in Masterworking a single piece of armor is. If you wanted to masterwork a whole set (helm, arms, chest, legs, class), it would cost you 2,500 Planetary Materials, 1,000 Enhancement Cores and 1,000,000 Glimmer. And that's just for those last two resources you need. That doesn't count the fact that you have to use the resources you need ten apiece of on your armor just to get to the step where you have to spend ten of them for the other resource. Oh, and there's an inventory cap on both of these resources, both I believe are below 30. So don't get your hopes up on stockpiling.
Just to sort of let you guys know what you're in for if you haven't started yet.
Edit: I know you shouldn't expect to Masterwork an armor set in the first week. I know the mats drop from other activities. This post is about the fact that the community begged Bungie to tone down Masterworking cost and they responded by increasing it exponentially and complicating it.

Somebody there clearly doesn't want us to actually use armor 2.0.

1000 masterwork cores? I don't think I've had that many ever.
-
5 RepliesYou need to masterwork only the best set of armor the good roll one you dont need to master every single armor try to have some common sense as well jesus its a mmo a game you play for months you still don’t get it the game is really not for you
-
4 RepliesMeh. It's a grind, it is supposed to be a grind. Too early to tell if it is an excessive grind.

1 ReplyEdited by Sir SaltyBeard: 10/3/2019 3:00:51 AMI had 4 completely masterworked armour sets prior to armour 2.0: Gambit prime reaper set; General pve set with grenade launcher reserves and scavs for my mountaintop; Handcannon + shottie scav build for crucible; Handcannon + sniper scav build for crucible; These 4 sets cost me under 100 cores (but a lot of farming for the correct cosmetic and rolls). To think that I need to put in even more time to find the correct armour piece with the right rolls and then to spend nearly as much resources as I had on 16 armour pieces to just upgrade 1 in the new 2.0, is insane. Players are pretty much going to cling onto their god rolled 1.0 armours until nex year - nevermind next season. With an economy such as this, I feel like a beggar living on the street corner opposite a Rolls Royce factory: love to have it, but my clapped-out VW will get me to where I need to be.
-
2 RepliesI masterwork guns if they're good but I've only ever masterworked one armour piece. I don't see the point, but to be honest, I don't pay much attention to armour stats. I just shoot stuff to get stuff. The cost has definitely become more hideously expensive since SK though. I probably won't even bother with guns now.
-
1 ReplyEdited by Hellekeen: 5/10/2020 12:30:47 PMI worked a bit with my new armor and since I don’t see any big benefits for me using finishers nor armor 2.0 I will revert back to my masterworked 1.0 armor and use that instead

48 RepliesEdited by TheShadow-cali: 10/2/2019 11:27:30 PMThank whoever Tess has the loot we need huh? I just read the last part and it didn't surprise me one bit that the higher-ups pulled this lame move. Bungie wants to make their money, I get it as all companies do, but they didn't have to be selfish about it that they could have at least added plenty of loot to the game to go with the boring grind. Bungie add one planet and didn't really update the rest of the game and looking at Bungie's "effort" to give the planets some life, meaning things to do, the moon will most likely be as dead as the rest of the planets in this game in no time at all. So running around collection materials with barely anything to do to level up old gear/weapons. That would be an absurd amount of time getting nowhere in a game that is supposed to be a looter shooter, not a cosmetic over grind.
-
Yep, this

3 RepliesI have not bought SK yet, but from what I've seen on the forums I am likely better off saving the money and watching some one play the story missions on YouTube.
-
33 RepliesThis game has become a complete waste of time. It's sheer grind. That's it. Just grind. The object of the game is to grind. The act of playing it is a grind. In one word, it's a grind.
-
That is a truly awful economy.
-
5 RepliesWell, haven’t purchased and definitely not going to now. Thank you for this post. I’ll just keep enjoying BL3 until they fix this IF that even happens. The game should be fun not a chore.
-
Edited by WormChi: 10/3/2019 6:14:58 PMI too believe the economy is pretty bad now but you need to remember that activities and the season pass give you mats too. The problem I have with 2.0 is overall it seems inferior to 1.0. In order to get good stats you need to roll high armor, plus have all 5 pieces match in a way that you don’t loose any ability points. On top of that it needs to be the element that you want. Then you need to make sure that if you upgrade it that you won’t be loosing any capped out points. With the inability to slot Intellect or resilience mods (for example) and not be able to change around the perks like on 1.0 armor the seems damn near impossible. There’s also then problem with exotics being locked to an element and their rolls from collections being almost unusable. Let’s not even get started on scavenger perks being on one piece of armor only. Really the only reason I can see to go all in on 2.0 is the mods from the artifact which leave in 3 months. Then you get to do it all over again. 1 step forward 2 steps back smh 🤦♀️
-
4 RepliesIt’s not for me, either. I honestly regret getting into D2. If I could just jump in and play casually for free in New Light, I’d be so happy with this game. Even with a hefty time and money investment, I’m considering just making this my “meh, Borderlands feels stale I should switch to something else for a while” game. Taking a long break and coming back is always fun. It even feels fun to just jump into public events and strikes. Not giving a shit about raids, dungeons, and build-crafting is the way to go, in my opinion. Life is too short to spend 5 hours a day playing D2.
-
2 Repliesor you know you could play the game.... and get these things as time passes, its the first week for crying out loud you should not be shooting for masterworked armor THIS EARLY. But if its something you want you can earn these things by leveling up the seasonal track and honestly you only got to go pick up some bounties that literally now drop in a large supply and then you can go out and do your thing. Can't believe people are getting this bent out of shape over this, just play the game XD
-
1 ReplyI dont see the issue, if you spend all your resources on Banshe of course it will cost more but if you dont upgrade/infuse constantly- no issues. This seems like a load of hoopla.
-
I'm borderline disgusted with how grindy and complicated this game has become in terms of material types available/bounty limitations/pursuit limitations and the sheer volume of things needed to do literally anything beneficial for your character and now to hear this just shatters my will to play the game with any seriousness or dedication. You should see how pathetic my exotic collection looks like.. Take away the Xur visits and quest rewards and you'll see just how poor this loot system has treated me. I would be blown away if I had 10 exotics that I decrypted myself.. Literally not a joke. 4k hours in Destiny 1 mind you.. Stop making new materials and finding more complicated ways to make a piece of gear "meta work or be complete" or at the VERY least create a vendor who offers an activity that's hard to complete and if you go ham he shows you his secret warehouse that's just overloaded with whatever you could need and says "Take only what you need" then you get to browse with a budget that's high enough to feel some kind of satisfaction. Not this nonsense of +2 Dusklight from a chest.. (No I don't mean spongy monsters, scan this thing or stand in this spot or dunk this thing) I mean something that's unique that fits in Destiny and has some thought behind it. I mean surely Bungie of all people can make a few activities that stand out?! Right guys?! Right?..
-
2 RepliesWow. I am thankful now for not pre-ordering for the first time in destiny.
-
31 RepliesThey've already said the game is no longer for casuals. Its an MMO. Get used to grinding or get out
-
-
Still no Bungie reply?
-
2 RepliesOkay, I'm out. This game is stupid.

1 ReplyIf people are looking for a 'run and gun' everything drops in your lap game then I would suggest BL3. Shadowkeep armor will take a lot of grinding, thought and economizing when upgrading. I'm okay with that but it seems others are not.
