Can Human Guardians age?

I know Guardians live forever, but do human Guardians age? Most of the ones we know are constantly dying, so they would never get older, but what about a Guardian that just decided to settle down for 50 years. Or does the Light have some sort of effect that keeps them from aging?

  • I mean...we were kinda resurrected after we died, which is commonly known as the age where we stop aging... So.......no.

They don’t age. I recently read some unused lore that talks about the earliest days of the city, when it was still a small settlement. There’s one entry that describes how Zavala fell in love with a non-guardian woman, that later died of old age. When he scatters her ashes he talks with Shaxx about love and they definitely make it seem like they don’t age at all. Very beautiful lore btw, I think someone posted a link to that on Reddit.

They age normally to maturity, or if they are already revived older like Osiris, but since age is caused by damage to your DNA/chromosomes due to cell division with your telomere's getting shorter and shorter each cycle, the Light essentially heals the telomeres, so no damage = no aging.

    • Difficult question. At first I’d say no, since many guardians have lived for centuries and don’t seem to age. However shin Malphur (at least its heavily implied) was revived by his ghost as a baby and did grow up. So my best guess is we age to a point then stay at that point forever, or if we are revived past that point we stay at the point we were revived

        • I would say no since ikora has probably been around for hundreds of years and doesn’t really show signs of aging.

        • Obviously, they can age, just look at Grand Pappy Osiris.

          • There's nothing to age. Everything is held together by the light.

            • No. Guardians don’t age unless they lose their Light. That only happened when Ghaul caged the Traveler.

            • Guardians don't age unless their connection with the Light is severed. Like when their ghost is destroyed or during the Red War. The cryptarch on the Farm even says she started feeling the negative effects of her age without her light.

            • the only way any guardian can age is if they stop being a guardian without dying then become a guardian again.
