Hi everyone,
My girlfriend and I loved playing this game together, but after our experience, we are feeling that playing Destiny 2 bricked her computer. She first experienced problems while playing the game to the point where she could not access her character menu or even quit/restart the game; she would have to completely turn off the computer in order to quit the game by holding the power button and unplugging the PC. At that point, the computer would not even reboot and the screen would go black.
We took it in to a shop where the computer began working fine again, but upon playing Destiny 2 again, the exact same issue occurred and we had to take it into another place to get it fixed.
She is, understandably, hesitant to install the game again fearing that it will brick her computer again, but she really loves the game and it's a great way for us to bond together. I'm wanting to know if anyone is able to solve this one and put her worries at ease. Her specs are:
i5-9600k cpu
16 gb RAM
WD blue 1 tb HDD
GTX 1060 SC GPU
MSI MPG Z390 Gaming Edge AC Mobo
Windows 10 OS
A part of me feels like it was an OS issue as both repair places we took the PC to confirmed it was and wiped everything. Still, I don't want more money to go down the drain for the exact same issue. Computer works fine with any other game, only happens with Destiny 2.
UPDATE:
We just tried to play again and she was in my fireteam. We left from Traveler and headed to EDZ. My character landed but she was stuck in orbit for about 10-15 minutes. She then tried CTRL+ALT+DEL but that also would not load up until about 15-20 minutes of waiting.
She was able to close D2 from the task bar and restart the computer.
We searched for CVARS on the computer but it looks like it isn't even on the computer? When navigating, we did not see an AppData folder in the directory either.
Computer was running fine beforehand; no slowing, everything up to date. It was once we turned on D2 that things seemed to fall apart.

You also need to find a decent computer shop, reinstalling windows twice was just to claw some cash out of you. Get some bench marking software theres plenty that's free, like Novabench or passmark, run it and see what happens, if you get issues again it's more likely to be hardware or a driver issue than anything else.

3 RepliesHi there. Appreciate your report. When playing D2, how long could she play because it would crash? Did she ever adjust her settings?
