•
Posted by: o iMa JoKeeR xi But wouldn't Six and all the others also be the -blam!- with her?
Spartan IIIs had nothing to do qith Halsey, she has nothing against Noble, personally, but she does hate that ONI took her life's work and made a cheap, bastard child version of it.

 • Guys, the reason she takes a deeper interest in Jorge is coz is a Spartan-II, the rest of Noble team are Spartan-III's Halsey developed the Spartan-II's, she was practically their mother, she felt deeply for all of them and hated puttibng them through the augmentation process. And even though she is not military, they respect her enough to consider her their superior officer, to an extent. the Spartan-III's we developed in secret by people who wanted to mass produce Spartans at a cheaper cost. Halsey had no say in their training or augmentation and she didn't even know that they existed until they were many years into their training, easily 10 years+. she still holds resentment over the people who created them so i think thats coming through when shes talking to Carter in Swordbase. shes not Jorges mother, she has just taken a deeper interest in him because she trained so closely with the 75 S-II's and then the 33 that survive the augmentation process. She a mother to all the S-II's in one sense, but genetically, no. and yes, he does say 'mam' as he greets her in swordbase. British accents rule!! [Edited on 10.19.2010 6:35 AM PDT]

 • It's the American way as well. If you fail to render proper respect to a passing Female Officer (or any Officer for that matter, at least in the US Marines) you can stand by for a thorough butt chewing from afore mentioned Officer. Only God will be able to save you if there happens to be an NCO or SNCO in the area to witness the event.

 •
Posted by: DynamicVamp He calls her "Mom" because when he was a child they had a close relationship. Halsey tends to do that with some Spartans, like John, Soren, and others. But yeah, she cared extra for them because she felt guilty (read Pariah from Halo Evolutions), and so they felt the same towards her.
No, the word you are hearing pronounced as "Mom" from Jorge is actually "Mam". It's just his accent. Watch the Legendary commentary.

 •
Posted by: Xysterial
Posted by: Kaitong He says "Ma'am". It's a term of respect, short for Madam. Most officers in the British Army will say it, and since Jorges' accent is British, it makes sense to me :)
Jorge is Hungarian you imbecile. Edit: in fact not only is the character Hungarian, so is the voice actor. Edit2: Accidental filter bypass.
Calm down. Kaitong said he had a British accent. I don't disagree with that statement and I'm aware of the voice actor. Perhaps you'd like to note of that role "voice actor". Like how Joseph Staten has acted the voice for the Grunts. Clearly that's not Mr. Staten's real voice... he's a voice actor. EDIT: On topic: Jorge says Ma'am, short for Madam. Used out of respect for Dr. Halsey as she was the creator of the Spartan-II Program and as Jorge mentioned "been 'ers half me life". He's known her since the age of 6, so they have a greater relation to each other than any of the Spartan-IIIs would. I think the books even go as far to say Halsey was actually quite a motherly figure to them at times. [Edited on 10.19.2010 6:17 AM PDT]

As in "Good to see you Ma'am." Not mom. I can understand the confusion though. That said, Hasley started the Spartan II program, of which Jorge was one of the few survivors.
that ^ Jorge has a british accent we dont say "mom" we say "mum" if we're talkign about mothers ma'am is basically the female equivalent of sir

 • i think it can be taken either way and that bungie purposefully used his accent to make it sound like "mom" but put the subs as ma'am

 • Since he could possibly be the only spartin II, that would deffinatly give them a strong relationship with each other.

The way he says "Ma'am" is just the English way of saying, you guessed it, "Ma'am". He knows her because he is a Spartan-II. The other's are all Spartan-III's, who were taught and trained under someone else (I'm not knowledgeable enough to remember who, just that it wasn't Halsey).

 • I haven't read any of the Halo books, and such, but I can confirm two things: 1. Jorge has an English accent. England is part of Britain, for those who are immensely ignorant. 2. He says "Ma'am." It's irrelevant that it is different in the German subtitles, or when perceived by people who think he has a Hungarian accent. I speak a little German, doesn't mean I have a German accent.

 •
Posted by: Dark Tornado7 Americans call their mothers: 'Mom' English and Irish people call their mothers: 'Mum' Americans say: Ma'am When English people say it, it sounds like 'Mom' Therefore, ignorant Americans think that Jorge is Halsey's son. P.S. I am fully aware that Jorge is from Reach, not England. The fact remains, however, that he has an English accent. I am not saying that all Americans are ignorant, I'm simply refering to the ones who think Jorge and Halsey are related.
You made me angry right up until the end.

 • No. When he says "ma'am" to her, his accent makes it sound like "mom." Jorge is not Halsey's son. Halsey simply had special relationships with a few SPARTAN IIs (John, for example).

 • I think that he says mom. He was an original Spartan II like John-117. Their augmentation process was much more intrusive and intensive then the Spartan III's. If you find the Halo universe interesting, you should consider reading The Fall of Reach It's really good.

Jorge has a British accent, the first settlers on reach were Hungarian (or so I've heard) so he would probably know a fair bit of hungarian. And if you're right about the voice actor then it makes sense, if he's speaking in hungarian in scenes then it would make sense to employ someone who could speak it convincingly.
