Does weapon power level matter?

Just got into this game recently and jumped into PvP as soon as i finished tutorial. I would like to know if my starting weapons makes any difference in PvP? I'm asking this because numerous times i have seen my gun do very little damage even when i shoot their heads while they are able to kill me in few hits. Numerous times i just resort to just meleeing them as that seemed way more effective than just using my guns. I would also like to know if the white bar below their health is some kind of shield or something? I wonder if i start with the same.

Oh I'm sorry. I thought by better weapons, you meant better weapon level. Instead i had to look at the stats. So i guess i should aim to get a weapon with gold or purple with high impact (as that denotes damage?). What about weapon mods? Do they also work in PvP? As for armor, what about the mobility, resilience and recovery stat? Do they also make a difference in pvp?

Weapon damage in PvP is normalized (with the exception of Iron Banner). Weapons fall into Archetypes. For example, Hand Cannons are divided up into 110RPM, 150RPM, 150RPM and 180RPM. Each weapon will do a set amount of damage based on this. There are 3 things to note: 1. Aside from the Archetype, the weapon will have base states - all weapons with the same name share those stats. For example, all Trust Hand Cannons have a range of 39-75 depending on perks. These stats such as range will effect damage in certain situations. 1B. It is possible to Masterwork certain stats to give slight buffs to these stats. 2. All weapons have randomized perk rolls. These perks make a huge difference in how the weapon performs - from damage buffs to more utility focused things like faster reloads. 2B. The number of perks available on a weapon is dependant on that weapons quality: Green - 1 perk Blue - 2 perks Purple - 3 perks Gold - 4 perks So obviously more perks is better. 3. Several Subclasses can get perks which alter the way their weapons function. Edit: I should also mention that Armour perks can alter how weapons perform, but these tend to be ammo capacity and targeting related and thus don’t directly impact the damage done as a tangible number.

        • Power level does not matter in PVP (except for Iron Banner). The weapons do matter though. The better the weapons the better the damage that you can do. You can do decent with green weapons but unless youre really good players with better weapons will kill you first. Yes that is a shield and yes you have one as well. White part of the health bar is the shield when you get to the red part that is the health. Also there is a sound when the shield is broken.

          • It is best if your weapon level matches the activity...otherwise you do less damage.
