I have constructed a pole of the 3 most suitable Titans to take up the position in his place.
There is a 4th option for those who want this hollow husk of a Titan to keep his position.

1 ReplyEdited by Neon: 3/12/2019 6:46:37 PMPlaying through some of the heroic story missions again...I'd say keep Zavala: -Ever since the Red War, Zavala has pretty much been under intense stress. The Vanguard's duty is to protect the last of what remains of humanity, by any means necessary. The fact that some Cabal soldiers were able to destroy us like that so fast, and disconnect us from the light for the first time in centuries? Cabal? We almost lost everything, and by Zavala being the leader he is, I can imagine how he felt about not being able to protect the city. He even felt bad about having to flee to Titan, but wanted everyone to rally(remaining guardians) so they could fight back against the Legion. He cares for everyone. He's just gone through so much stress and emotional trauma. Sucks when everyone pretty much looks up to you for answers or protection and you cant help them. -Zavala has a reason to not like Rasputin. The thing literally killed guardians before, even some who tried to commune with it and utilize it. It's an AI. Built by human beings. If people like the Vanguard want to use him for the sake of humanity(like Rasputin himself literally states that he was built for)then there shouldn't be an issue. So the fact that he's killed Guardians who have tried to utilize him for good? To Zavala that's obviously dangerous. Rasputin is unpredictable and up to Warmind, nobody knew how to wield him, until Ana came along. I can understand why Zavala decided to just not like Rasputin. He doesn't want the thing to go ape on us at any given moment or just decide not to do what we ask of it. AI can be altered. Rasputin can be helping us and one point and then the next, destroying the last of those who remain on earth(which is actually possible with the power Rasputin posseses). As a leader, Zavala is taking extreme precautions, even if they feel limiting. It's like when your parents say you cant go to a house party because they know how the people you're about to hang out with act, but you go anyway and next thing you know the cops are there. Of course it seems Ana has a handle on things now but before then, I could see why Zavala didnt eant us digging around. -After Zavala sees Cayde is dead, he literally doesn't know what to say. Ikora does all the talking up until she goes into this passive fury and says we're going to "mount the head of that son of a bitch on his precious throne." Zavala says no because he doesn't want to risk another attack on the city possibly. He says we need to focus on the city, it's people, the traveler. As a leader, I'm not surprised he said that. It's easy to send a few guardians on strikes, raids, etc, here and there, but sending every guardian to go take care of a lightless awoken and his wannabe fallen partne is just too much. It literally only took one of us. Zavala knows what we are capable of, which is why he let us go. He was against it, but he let us. He was just afraid to, as he put it, "bury any more friends." He cares for the people and his friends. Hell if I'm not mistaken the dialogue after the forsaken questline for him was him stating that he would've wanted to go do it himself, or something similar. But that he had a job, which was to stay here. Then theres his speech from his cutscene from before destiny 2 even dropped. Zavala isnt a bad guy at all. Hes just going through a lot. It would be a shame if someone of his caliber were to stoop so low as to succumb to being a rogue or a darkness related guardian, after all he fought for and against. In the new lore book for ranking up in vanguard however... *SPOILERS* He even says theres a possibility the vangaurd might disband. To him it's like the vanguard doesn't exactly know what its role is anymore and it's just seems to be falling apart. As if regardless of if we have a vanguard or not, people are gonna die, and bad things are going to happen. But at least he isnt afraid to admit that. And again, the story missions. Zavala, Ikora, and Cayde were all willing to die for the Traveler. And Zavala still supports the Traveler. And he still fights for humanity. Zavala might be going through a lot, but hes proven to me that I need to pick his side. #Vanguard4Life

Zavala still is the best man for the job as far as I see. He is certainly off his game but I understand why and it does not diminish his efforts or record. He needs a helping hand and that is what feels best at the moment.
-
5 RepliesWhy keeping Zavala is the only solution: - He's a tactician - He has always some inspiring words in his tiny titan pockets - He's my vanguard leader - He fought at twilight gap - He isn't broken. He knows how our enemy, the darkness, act (killing a threat brings another) - He's not afraid, just carefully And several other aspects by lore.
-
Sorry, but stepping into a war with the cabal on Mars is infinitely better than anything you're proposing.
-
1 ReplyI vote for Shaxx, he always keeps telling everyone that I’m his favorite Guardian so it’s only fair to return the favor ;)
-
Sloane seems suited to the job.
-
I vote for Sloane. Zavala is just not the same anymore, Saladin just tries to fix his mistakes by trying to prevent more mistakes from being made, I mean he covered up SIVA and never told the Vanguard till it blew up in his face. Shaxx is... a little too gunho for the job, which is what makes him perfect for the Crucible
-
2 RepliesEven though it would be awesome for Shaxx to guide us during a Strike, lorewise he wouldn't accept being the Titan Vanguard. Shaxx already has a lot of responsibilities with the Crucible, and my bet is he will never give it up to someone (after all, he IS the Crucible). Saladin Forge also won't give up on Felwinter's Peak. Unless, of course, Efrideet takes his place on the Iron Temple and the Iron Banner. This should be a good choice, since Saladin is psychologically stabler than the current Zavala. For the current state of Destiny, however, I believe the best option for the Titan Vanguard is D.C. Sloane. She is kind of what Zavala used to be before the Red War, and she would never allow the Praxic Order to incriminate us on Cayde's death because she trusts us.

1 ReplyI should be the Titan Vanguard. Piratekinghulk for Titan Vanguard!! Make Titans great again!
-
I dont even consider there to be a Vanguard anymore. Zavala bossing (trying to) everyone around like in Warmind doesnt even work. We still did what we were going to do.
-
Shaxx is a dark age warlord. He should be top titan.
-
2 RepliesLooks like the majority want to keep the “hollow husk of a Titan”. Sure, Zavala has issues. Issues that need to be worked through. Besides, the consensus would never agree.

Edited by 6 speed: 3/11/2019 6:08:48 PMHe needs to talk about what happened with Cayde. He needs to talk to Ikora. Conversely she needs to talk to him. Honestly I'm glad Ikora called his ass out. He's become pretty damn dogmatic in his "the wall is everything, defend the city at all costs" mentality. I'm not saying those things aren't important but he's so damn reserved. So damn closed off. Imagine had he just absolutely lost his shit upon hearing of Cayde's death. Imagine if he made a similar speech to Ikora's. From a narrative point of view hearing it from Ikora carried more weight and punch to it. But seriously Zavala, wake up. Get -blam!-ing mad. They murdered your best friend.
-
None of these choices seem solid to me. We need someone better. I vote for Saint-14! (no he aint dead, thats just Vex propaganda).
-
Tbh Sloan’s. Shaxx is the crucible guy and can’t split his time between the two. Sloan seems like the best choice to replace Zavala really. Also she is one of the few people who is probably going to stay by our side no matter what. What I mean is, What if Aunor publicly accused us of the murder of Cayde-6 and people believed her and turned against us? I think Sloan would be one of the people who would know we didn’t do it. Idk. But logically Sloan is best choice for a new Titan vanguard.
-
Lord Shaxx would be a much better Titan Vanguard.
-
5 RepliesZavala needs to talk with someone and express his feelings, who better to talk to them the Guardian who only speaks once every 6 months? If Zavala opened up to us I'm sure he'd be fine
-
Do y’all really want shaxx to leave the crucible
-
I’d love to have shaxx as the titan vanguard *kills boss in strike* I CANT BELIEVE WHAT IM SEEING!!’
-
I think he could use a vacation. I couldn’t imagine spending my immortality standing around at that balcony 24/7
-
I don’t think the Vanguard should continue at all. At all. But..if there WERE to be a different Titan Vanguard, it should be Shaxx.
-
7 RepliesYou think Lord Shaxx would take up Titan VG? Ain't nobody want that responsibility
