Alive. Through destiny one, it was crippled to the point where it was forced into slumber (though we knew it was kinda alive since it was subtly healing through the years). At the end of the red war campaign, though, it wakes up to stop Ghaul, which is the whole reason why the “Pyramid Ships” woke up in the final cutscene.
